They're awesome. It's too bad they're $550, though. I'd load up on C&J if it wouldn't be so hard on my bankroll...

Got them here for £217 (~$360). Actually they dropped it down to £200 because the shipping got delayed a few days. Also free shipping, and if you mention the Ask Andy About Clothes forums you get a free pair of shoe trees. So it seems like a solid site so far but I can't say for sure until the shoes actually arrive.

Any thoughts on the Earl Polo? I think it looks classy but idk. I'm also pretty short (5'3), so is it a good fit for me?

What else is good for short men, upper-body wise?

I have made a lot of money playing poker and want to upgrade my wardrobe. I am used to dressing in tshirts and shorts. I would like to have nicer casual clothes to wear out. Im more interested in high end polos(the one above this thread looks good to me) and nice casual long sleeve button ups. Could someone link me or tell me places to get these kinds of things. I have been shopping around myself but I never can tell what looks good. I just want something classy but casual. Thanks. In case you can't tell, I know nothing about fashion.

Finally picked up a blazer. Had about 2834283 stackable coupons for Macy's, and I used them. Is it ballin? Nah, but it's pretty nice. Calvin Klein 2 button dark charcoal (maybe dark olive? im not sure im having it altered right now or i'd post a pic).

What should I be pairing with this? Black t-shirts? Dark striped shirts?

I'm such a n00b to this not dressing like a college student stuff.

For autumn I decided to reorganize my wardrobe. I'm getting rid of anything that doesn't fit, is damaged or I don't like. So far I'm tossing

Dress Shirts - 11
Casual Shirts - 12
Trousers - 7
Polos - 8
Shoes - 2
Sweaters - 7

That leaves me with

Dress Shirts - 12
Casual Shirts - 19 (eight which are spring/summer)
Trousers - 26
Polos - 8
Shoes - 21
Sweaters - 26 (Too many but at least 4 I want to give away. Still too many)

For now I'm keeping all my suits and sports jackets.

My idea is to simplify the wardrobe and concentrate on fit and versality. To achieve this I plan on buying

1 Grey flannel Trouser
1 Chocolate brown suade loafer
1 Patterned Suit (not pin-stripes)
4-5 Tattersall shirts

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

I just bought some Rock ' n ' Republic jeans and have already got like a million compliments...They also fit great and are really comfortable. Definitely recommend them to anyone who's looking for dark classy jeans.

M, I have 4 pairs of grey flannels. If I were you I'd plan on owning several.

Right now I have two pairs of flannels, one of which is charcoal. I'm going to be in NY next weekend so I was planning on stopping by Paul Stuart and buying a pair in mid-grey. I want to wear them and see how much I like them before I order a couple more.

i need some new sneakers. i've been wearing a pair of these for three years but they have finally bit the dust.

http://www.landausports.co.uk/images...s-DSCF0319.jpg

the stuff that is white on that pic was some dark colour on mine, it looked a lot better.

anyway, my standard outfit lately is just jeans and a black tshirt, so even though i like brown i guess i should get black sneakers? any suggestions? nothing too formal. thanks!

Went in for the fitting on my custom suit/shirts a few days ago. I really like the look of the suit. The shirts also fit really well except I feel like the arms are too big around. This doesn't really matter when wearing them with a suit but I think they look a tad goofy without the suit and I'd like to be able to wear them without it. Should I get him to take the arms in to fit closer to the skin or is this not worth it / too big a pita / not possible?

Also, I got hit for ~$60 duty on the brown Corso boots I imported. I assume it'd be the same with the C&Js.

Can you post a pic of a sample outfit with grey flannels that you think looks good?

searching for brown boots. these would be for wearing with jeans and nicer pants.

thoughts on

Spoiler:
from SF: Brooks Brothers Boots - Made in Portugal - Goodyear Welt

These are from the same manufacturer as the excellent Saks brand shoes that I sold recently. They are very high quality. These were made for the retail stores and not the outlets.$488 MSRP

vs
something like this (hard to find)

Spoiler:
dip-dye Bihar by Paul Smith, MSRP $400 ish

vs a Chelsea like this

Spoiler:
Crockett & Jones Chelsea boots in chestnut, MSRP $400 ish I think

I think I like them in reverse order (IE the Chelsea the best)

I like the chelsea style the best as well although I have been looking for a zip up pair preferable in some kind of rougher look or suede. My roomate has a pair of Saks labeled boots he got on clearance last year that are awesome but I can't find anywhere.

I just picked up a great pair of Alden's Cordovan Monkstraps. I love these as I can wear them with a suit for all but the most proper occasions but they work great with a blazer or just slacks as well. I also love the look of burgundy shoes with navy suits and I just got a new custome tailored navy pinstriped suit.

Also picked up several things from Gilt.com (hoping they fit): a pair of Ted Baker driving shoes, a great pair of Gant Cords and two pairs of John Varvatos cotton pants. I wanted a pair of drivers and had been looking for something on sale so that works great. Additionally have high hopes for the Varvatos pants as I already have one pair of microcords that are my most comfortable and best fitting pair of pants for casual wear.

Last thing I need is a new overcoat and raincoat. I am hoping to pick up a nice Khaki raincoat (probably from Brooks or J.Press) on sale and am trying to decide between the same for an overcoat or to get a custom one where I get my suits made.

I think I have actually settled on RW Williams Chelsea. that C&J is super nice, but since I hardly ever wear a suit I don't need anything that sleek, and would actually prefer something that looks more in place with jeans (which will be common) in addition to charcoal or dark pants. also something that stands up to elements is really helpful, and these are (partly) made for that. about $250 shipped, which is also about $150 cheaper than the C&J unless I luck out and find a barely used pair

I have been surfing a lot on Gilt, haven't found anything I needed and you need to be sooo fast. I'm actually liking the buy/sell forum on SF, there are some amazing things there for great prices, if you have the time to sift through

Kneel,

Going in order,

The first boot's toe box looks extremely bulbous and clunky. Definitely pass.

The Paul Smith boots are nice. I am considering getting the maroon ones around Christmas time when they should hit 40% off.

The C&J are very nice, but like you said, work better with suits and more formal pants.

RW William boots are going to be my next purchase. Some guy on SF did a long write-up on them and I'm going to opt for the customized SF special. I've been planning on getting these forever.

In regards to Gilt, there are certainly some good sales on there, but a word of caution, be mindful not to get stuck in the vicious cycle of buying / returning items every week. I probably ate over $150 in shipping fees last winter alone. I guess I did get a few good pickups out of it though.

This definitely happens. I think I have order 6-8 pairs of jeans and only kept two. I ended up ordering two pairs of John Varvatos pants yesterday and am sending back one pair of jeans and the driving shoes from my earlier order. Likely I will send back one pair of the Varvatos pants as well.

Regardless, Gilt is still a great deal, the few things I have kept have saved me $500+ and I know I haven't burned through more than $200 in shipping. And not to trumpet once again, but if anyone is interested in invites to Gilt I am happy to send. I would appreciate it as well as I get a $25 credit after anyone I invite places an order.

I read a lot of that thread (jesus I never knew there could be 1,700 posts about boots) and decided to not go with the forum special for much of the same reason as I'm not gonna buy the C&J boots at this time - they are more suited to formal wear imo, and also I'd rather not pay extra for the (I think?) nicer but more delicate veal calf. also I didn't want a leather sole in my only nice boot. the comfort craftsman are better suited for a snowy/slushy/ winter I think...also after going into Louis Boston they convinced me that a very dark brown (like the Chestnut in RW Williams I think) is much more versatile than the black -you can wear it with jeans & also charcoal pants.

I think at some point I may very well buy the forum special, but for me a chestnut craftsman makes more sense at this time. I think anyways. I'm just trying to decide between the kangaroo and yearling leather.

jesus I never thought I could write so much about a boot.

Ugh. Although I don't know what is cool for college kids these days, I feel like you can get much better jeans than True Religion for the money.

I just picked up y navy suit and need some shoes that can be delivered here by Friday. This is currently what I'm thinking of but I'm open to other options.

I'm hoping to get something that can be worn with both a suit and less formal things as well.

ETA: Yeah I could def see this Chelsea working too. In fact the color is probably better with Navy.

you can get either (or similar) shoes in either color, but I think just personally the Chelsea will look better with casual wear like jeans. more versatile shoe I think, but w/e.

this is the color I ended up with
