We're roughly the same build. For shirts, many designers have a slim fit option. I live in SF where small asians abound, so finding pants and shirts is not that difficult, but coats and suits require a bit more work and usually sleeve tailoring for me. One thing you can try is walking around to a bunch of different stores, taking note of what labels and which sizes in those labels seem to fit you, even if they are ass ugly. Then hit up the internet, or asia, or hawaii.

Also, asking a lot of questions helps. i.e. Can you order this color in my size? What do you think would fit me? Any suggestions in general?

Any reccomendations for some causual shoes. Something to wear with jeans but a little edgeir than the faux tennis shoes. Something say for a night out on the strip in Vegas with jeans and nice causual fitted shirt?

I wear Creative Recreations if I'm going out with jeans and a dress shirt but they might be a bit too much like tennis shoes for you.

there were crazy deals at Brooks Brothers and Banana and Ralph Lauren as well. anyone who buys big brand clothing at retail prices is just insane.

almost everything at BR was like 60% off. got a couple non-iron shirts at BB for $20 a piece. many $350 blazers at Ralph Lauren marked down to $100

Deals are insane right now. Better than 2002/2003 prices. The entire 5th Ave Zegna store suit section is 70% off, just to give a single example.

Was this at a BB outlet? Non-iron shirts at the Manhattan store were 3 for 160, which isn't that great. I just bought a suit there for $600, which is I think the same as the sale price in past years, but still a pretty good value, and some ties at 50% off.

How was the suit selection in the Madison Ave store?

I can't really say because I was just looking for a particular suit, which they had. The suit section is pretty large so I would guess the selection is pretty good.

Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out what to wear on New Year's Eve.

My gf and I are going with a group of other people to a party at a hotel in DC. Tickets were $120, and it's black tie optional. The other guys in the group will be wearing suits, as far as I know. I don't own a tux, and I guess it's probably too late to get one at this point.

I have a pretty standard charcoal suit (with light pinstripes) that I could wear. But I generally wear it for business functions and the suit doesn't really shout "party". I'd like to wear something slightly more festive that would stand out more (but without being ostentatious or outlandish).

Any advice for how to dress up the charcoal suit a little bit, or any ideas for alternatives to wear other than my regular business suit?

Damon, best way to dress up a suit is with a flashy tie. Match it to your gf's clothing. A bright, solid colored tie is always a safe choice, however, the color obviously depends on your shirt color. If you dont have an idea of what colors go with what, google image the "color wheel" and just find complementary colors. An example of this, (believe it or not) would be green and purple. They dont sound like they go together, but visually they complement each other quite nicely.

My gf just texted me to say she is deciding between two dresses -- a red one, and a black one with red trim.

I have a few red ties, but again, they all strike me more as "power" ties that I wear for important meetings at work and stuff, and not so much festive for NYE.

Would a bold red shirt be out of the question here? Perhaps paired with a thin black or sleek dark gray tie?

I think red shirts are ugly and tacky, but that could just be me. If you want to make your outfit a little more flashy buy still classy, go with a french cuff shirt and cufflinks, more formal tie (solid or minimal pattern, silk) and a pocket square. I don't own any pocket squares, but from what I've read, the pocket square is supposed to complement but not match the tie. This may require you to buy some new stuff, but now is a great time to buy because of all the sales, and these are good things to have in your wardrobe.

Also, it should be noted that at black tie optional events in DC, you don't necessarily need your outfit to scream "party!!"

i'm quite sad that my local nordstrom selection is pretty bad this sale. gf said the selection when she was home for xmas in san diego was amazing though.

DR, The notion of a "festive" tie or a "power" tie is silly. You're going to wear a discreet shirt and discreet tie because that's what's appropriate with a suit, more so at night. The fact that you don't have anything else means don't worry about it. There's nothing you can do. You might want to think about getting a plain dark navy suit, however, since it's appropriate at work and for non-formal evening functions.

NYers, Bergdorf in NY has a great selection of super cheap, high quality trousers right now. Lots of 60% of Zegna and Belvest sportcoats, and 50% off Loro Piana cashmere outerwear, which I've never seen go on sale. Saks seems pretty well picked over now.

If you're wearing a suit, it's my opinion that the suit, shirt, and tie are not the place to try to be flashy. Pocket square, cuff links, socks, and shoes are smarter places to do this.
