Ya, I've checked them out. With the UK exchange rate though, I'm looking at $300-$350 for even the cheapest shoes. Might as well just buy a $200 pair of AE and stick on a $25 vibram.

I dunno... looks like a pretty typical boring chukka to me. It also seems to be lacking the sleeker shape of some of the nicer chukka's I've seen. It's also $520.

Either way, under jeans, doesn't it just appear as a boring plain-toe style shoe?

for a difference of $325 vs $225, I think you should just buy whatever you actually like best. also adding Vibram onto leather isn't exactly the same as Dainite - the vibram I have had put on was a pretty thin strip with light tread, which wore out/smoothed out much quicker than my dainite soles did. it's pretty good but not exactly the same.

chukkas will look different than standard shoes b/c the lacing starts a good bit higher

that said I wouldn't pay $520 for Paul Smith

is this a typo or are they really $520 in the US? they are £250 which is about 400 bucks (taxes included, which will be deducted if shipped outside uk)..

i think the shoe is not boring at all :-)
and i wouldn't want it sleeker.
i'll order them; no time for a trip to london atm.

already bought these last autumn, in london:

The main shoe I'd like to find right now is some kind of casual non-sneaker shoe that can be worn with jeans + a button-down, but no blazer. Should have a dainite or similar rubber sole to handle all weather. Thoughts? Was considering these:

I tend to like simpler shoes. Hmmm

they may appear to be old mannish, but that's b/c it's a design that's been around forever, and isn't going anywhere

For This New Balance release Stockholm based Store Sneakersnstuff have joined forces with Milkcrate Athletics NYC. Both parties have selected the made in England 577 as their weapon of choice, giving each shoe highly contrasting colourways. The Milkcrate 577 features a refreshingly colourful design with uppers of soft suede and perforated leather.

On the other hand the SNS 577 is a much more muted affair, with uppers consisting of tonal grey suede and perf leather. Each shoe is signed off with a branded rubber hangtag. Produced in very limited numbers this release is set to drop in March 2012.

Never got them. Granted there are some fits they look good in, but I think the fit wouldn't suffer at all by replacing them with some other footwear.

matter of taste. i NB.

quality wise you won't find better sneakers from a MAJOR brand, except saucony.
(i'm only talking about "made in england" NBs.)

luckily i have a lot of other shoes as well, so i don't look like a 12 year old all the time.

i frequently wear dress trousers (i.e., not part of a suit and not chinos) to work. don't know if this is common business attire outside of new york. i like the hugo boss james brown pants, but don't know of many other things that are similar. any recommendations?

A lot of geezers seem to like the Incotex/Mabitex stuff, although I've only handled a pair once or twice.

If you're in the market for slimmer stuff, I've always been really smitten with Epaulet's (epauletshop.com) fabric choices.

I have a few pairs of incotex flannels, they are very nice. I also have incotex chinolino (which are a split of linen and cotton) which are the best warm weather pants I have.

the mabitex I have tried on have been lol skinny. They were literally skin tight on my thighs.

anyways it seems the only way to buy these is to spend $$$$ at a dept. store or buy from the gray market (ebay or style forum). kind of a hassle.

for a much easier time, just go into a real Ralph Lauren store, they should have a nice selection of wool trousers. I have a pair of "just" blue label RL wool pants that are really really nice

Panta's trousers are supposedly awesome. But the online store isn't selling them yet. I have Incotex flannels and cords that I like. I also have some Paul Stuart trousers that I'm not thrilled with.

for trousers - I've found Canali to be awesome. Saks store brand trousers are great. Other options include - bespoke or made to measure.

I am receiving a promotion, and need some fashion ideas!

So the attire that I am shooting for is somewhere above the chinos/polo/brown shoes look and below the dress shirt (with tie)/dress pants/black shoes look.

In my new position it is perfectly acceptable to wear khakis/polo/brown shoes, but I want to look "fresher" than that.

I am thinking somewhere along the lines of: dress shirt (no tie)/black trousers/black shoes/black belt. Is this standard for business casual below wearing a dress shirt and tie?

The reason that I am opting for no tie is because the client base that I am dealing with does not require it. I'd also be the only person in the position who wears a tie and I don't want to be "that guy."

I also need suggestions on some places (or popular brands) to buy this attire at a decent price. I have not read all of this thread, but the recent suggestions are rather expensive. I have no problem paying extra as long as it is worth it in the long run. Any suggestions or favorite places to shop would be a great help!

Thanks, and please forgive me because this is all fairly new to me!

You'll look like an undertaker or a Mormon missionary.

Get a variety of trousers, grey, brown, tan, some patterns. Get a variety of shirts, mostly white and blue, some patterns. Couple of pairs of brown shoes. A few sport coats. This will give you extreme flexibility to mix and match.
