I'd always meant to buy a pair of ridiculous high-top MMM GATs as well, which are more similar to the styling of Tigers, but never got around to it. Probably for the best.

Check out Common Projects on thecorner.com or on uhh... tresbienshop (.net?).
Yoox is what it is. If you can wade through it all there is nice stuff to be found. I got some gats for $200 shipped recently. They had a bunch of Engineered Garments bedford jackets and other things for half off. The Corner had some really good stuff in their sale. Seems like there are more and more options out there all the time.

Must be (have been) nice to have a complete wardrobe. I don't know if I will ever get there shopping online.

How's Yoox been these days? I've stopped reading SF so I feel so out of touch. It's about time to start koppin again.

Edit: roota, the uppers look like they're kinda crappy quality.
At some point I realized that there was nothing else I needed to get and am also focusing on upgrading.

I found it useful to be able to buy items heavily discounted. Even when it wasn't exactly what I wanted. It allowed me to try a wide variety of brands at a relatively low cost. Most of the early stuff I've gotten rid of or relegated but it allowed me to figure out what qualities mattered to me.

I will never get over the idea of paying 1k for sneakers that are assembled with staples, even if they look like the greatest ever (which they don't).

I think "complete" is mostly an ambiguous level you set for yourself but keeps getting more ambitious with the more you buy.

on some level I'm sure your wardrobe is complete now - I mean you've made it this far into your life without walking out the door naked, right? but the more you know the more you want so nothing is really ever enough.

how frequently do you guys find yourselves replacing leather soles on dress shoes and boots? i am generally wearing a sole completely out within 12 months, which seems kind of crazy.

How often are you wearing the shoes in question?

2 or 3 times a week. i have a pair of wolverine 1000 miles that i got last christmas, plus brown and black oxfords. the blacks have rubber soles but i got the brown ones resoled last year and have already worn through both the boots and the brown oxfords.

i do work in the city and walk a fair bit, but it still seems kind of excessive. i was especially pissed about the boots... 1000 miles my ass.

Are you wearing leather-soled shoes in rainy weather? They absolutely should not be exposed to water or else they'll wear down prematurely. I recommend getting them vibram'd if you do.

hmmm. yeah i do wear them pretty much whenever. what is vibram

Essentially a condom you glue on to your soles. I bet the 1000 miles would look good with a lug sole.

Why would anyone get leather soles on boots? Just seems silly.

I have a few pairs of leather soled shoes (AE Strand, etc), but lately I'm starting to think that it's just one of those completely ridiculous things done for tradition. They wear down quicker, they can't be worn in snow or rain, and IMO, they aren't any more comfortable. If your answer is to wear those little rubber booties on them or to vibram them, well, you're either trying too hard or might as well just buy rubber soles.

I'm pretty sure the next pair of shoes I buy will be a well made, low profile, rubber soled model. Just not sure who makes something like that.

If you find any let us know. Reading SF gives me douchechills sometimes. =\

Paul Smith.

I still greatly prefer leather soles + vibram, especially for dress shoes. Rubber soles look tacky to me.

That's the thing - clunky rubber soles look cheap. But if they are thin, you can't tell the difference at all unless you are looking at the bottom of the shoe.

z28, i got those boots without even really thinking about the soles, in fact i think they were recommended to me here and nobody mentioned it as an issue. i am kinda ignorant about shoes.

i would love to find a plain, sharp looking pair of brown loafers (no ****ing tassels or patterns etc) with rubber soles. i had a pair of BR loafers that i really loved but they got worn out super fast.

These are my size and I was thinking about bidding on them. Dainite wears extremely tough and is low profile. it will take you a long time to need resoling and they need no care at all. the flip side is that Dainite is not the most comfortable material - it's actually pretty hard.

I have a pair of boots with double leather sole. as mentioned above, I actually find them to be more comfortable than dainite. I just don't wear them in bad weather. when it comes time to resole them, though, I will get something instead of a standard leather sole. rubber or something similar.

Kneel: Know of any shoes similar to Allen Edmonds quality / pricepoint that might come with a dainite sole?

Right now I have/need:

Formal: Cheap black cap toes - want to replace with AE Park Avenue equiv (could probably do leather sole here since they wouldn't be worn as much)

Dressy casual: AE Strand, dark brown - leather sole is fine, also not worn too often

Business casual: J&M Aldrich, dark brown (quarter brogue) - leather sole

Casual: Ugh. Only have clark DB's right now which are super casual.

The main shoe I'd like to find right now is some kind of casual non-sneaker shoe that can be worn with jeans + a button-down, but no blazer. Should have a dainite or similar rubber sole to handle all weather. Thoughts? Was considering these:

Just a dark brown plain toe blucher. Too boring? I can probably find them for around $180-$200 on sale, so wouldn't mind spending the $25 to add a vibram sole.

I tend to like simpler shoes. Hmmm

the Loake 1880 line is roughly equivalent and they have some that come with dainite

for instance these would fit the bill for that. I think boots like these are more casual than their shoe equivalent.

Loake line at Pediwear, they have others you might like more
