Yeah, I don't know if the ones you looked up have extra spirit in them but adding a little vodka or gin (esp sloe gin) is a really nice touch. A lot of alcohol in the wine boils off during the process so always good to top up.

I also put all ingredients together 24 hours before I start the boil, it added an extra depth.

John,

Mulled wine is always good. So is a boozy cider. You can do spiced cider in a crockpot or something and have a bottle of bourbon next to it so people can booze it up (or not) to their liking.

I like making a pitcher of bourbon or rum with some allspice dram and ginger liqueur. Have a bucket of ice and some ginger ale (and potentially some other juices/mixers) next to it. People can then take it straight as a very boozy cocktail or add ice and ginger ale for a more easy-going drink.

Also look up bourbon punches. Very easy and always a big hit.

I don't generally love cocktails with scotch in them, not opposed to them either but they just never seem to stand out above something similar without scotch in them.

However, I had a really nice one at my favorite local haunt recently.

Smoke and Mirrors

- Knob Creek Rye
- Cardamaro
- Benedictine
- Laphroaig
- Angostura and Aztec Chocolate Bitters

Smoked on a hand cut cube.

I recently had a great, refreshing drink in Miami. When I asked how it was made, I was told it contained cucumber juice, lime juice, mint, simple syrup, and gin or vodka or rum. It's all shaked together and strained into a tall glass with shaved ice.

I'm a drink noob. Could someone give me an idea on what the ratio of each ingredient would be?

Ep,

Prob something like this:

Muddle a few slices of cucumber and some mint.

Add 1.5-2oz gin
Juice from half lime
Teaspoon of sugar or ss

You could either strain onto crushed ice or just use a few cubes and top with a little soda.

Was this at Broken Shaker?

Byblos! Broken Shaker is a cool spot though.

Thanks ED.

IME that concentrate brand is more bitter than a fresh lemon, so I tend to under-pour a dash which seems to match the fresh lemon closer (I mean about a dash on a half ounce, just pour slightly less than you would if fresh squeezed)

I use the concentrate pretty often when lazy, which also makes the ones with a twist and fresh lemon noticeably better.

As a blasphemous addition to this thread, I need to lay off alcohol for a bit.

Are there any non-alcoholic drinks that don't have a ton of sugar in them that I could order in bars to tide me over that might taste good?

There's soda water+lime, but that's kinda boring.

Is there an AA ballers thread? They might have better recommendations

Z,

If you're on with a very small amount of alcohol, you can add some bitters. Soda w/ lemon/lime and bitters is great. Also there are some bitters without alcohol.

I would stay out of the bars if I didn't want to drink alcohol, but if you have to be there for some reason, I like the soda + lemon/lime idea. Bitters have alcohol in them.

There's places, at least out by me, that specifically offer non-alcoholic cocktails. Here's an example. I've had a few that were fantastic.

I'm sorry, but a non-alcoholic cocktail is like decaf coffee. It's only just above the abomination that is zero alcohol beer. Much better to just not go out rather than inflict this disease on those around you.

Mezcal fans,

Hot day in SF, so I decided to make a daiquiri. Then decided to add in some fresh raspberries because lime+raspberry is a great combo. Then decided gin prob goes better with that than rum. Then decided mezcal prob goes even better. Resulting in:

Great success!

New to the thread and relatively new to cocktails. Picked up some falernum a little while ago and been enjoying making some tiki inspired stuff. I want to try making some oregeat drinks but I’ve heard any you can buy are terrible and seems like a lot of trouble to make. Thoughts?

Egg white fans,

Had a bunch of egg whites after making Creme brûlée for Christmas, so...

2oz cacacha (tequila, rum, mezcal, pisco would all work great), tablespoon orange marmalade, splash of agave syrup, small lime juiced (maybe 3/4oz), 1oz egg white, orange bitters

And then a similar looking but very different tasting cocktail. This is a really great wintry holiday drink. 2oz bourbon, 1/2oz maple syrup, small lime juiced (would have used lemon if I had some), 1oz egg white, orange and Ango bitters, grated cinnamon and nutmeg
