I've been using
Target's Fieldcrest towels for the past few years, and they are a decent budget option.
But towels are something you use on a daily basis, so I wouldn't mind putting down a little coin to get ones that would make my girlfriend and I delight in getting out of the shower as much as we enjoy being in it.
Of course we're talking bath sheets here, as anything less is uncivilized. Qualities that seem important to me in a bath towel include softness, durability in the wash, color options and maintaining color. Absorbency and drying time are other factors. It seems that 100% cotton are the best, particularly an Egyptian or Turkish cotton. Some people like bamboo.
I've been searching online for best luxury towels and here are the three that have caught my eye:
Hammacher Schlemmer's 900-gram Turkish towels
If heft is king, these are the ones to get. Price isn't so bad at $70 for a bath sheet.
Abyss Super Pile Towels
These are the most expensive option I've seen at $138 for a bath sheet. 700 gram Giza 70 Egyptian cotton, which has an extra long loop. They have rounded corners. Not sure if that would make any difference, but it makes them stand out from most other towels. The widest variety of colors to choose from.
Matouk Milagro Towels
Thinnest of the bunch at only 550 grams, but apparently very soft with zero-twist Egyptian cotton. Regular price on the bath sheet is $78.
A local Bloomingdale's carries the Abyss and Matouk, so I plan to stop by with my girlfriend this weekend to check them out. I'll report back.
I'm interested to know if anyone has had firsthand experience with these towels, or has any other recommendations for a blissful towel experience. Opulence, I wants it.
