EDF Bath Towels Thread EDF Bath Towels Thread

I've been using Target's Fieldcrest towels for the past few years, and they are a decent budget option.

But towels are something you use on a daily basis, so I wouldn't mind putting down a little coin to get ones that would make my girlfriend and I delight in getting out of the shower as much as we enjoy being in it.

Of course we're talking bath sheets here, as anything less is uncivilized. Qualities that seem important to me in a bath towel include softness, durability in the wash, color options and maintaining color. Absorbency and drying time are other factors. It seems that 100% cotton are the best, particularly an Egyptian or Turkish cotton. Some people like bamboo.

I've been searching online for best luxury towels and here are the three that have caught my eye:

Hammacher Schlemmer's 900-gram Turkish towels
If heft is king, these are the ones to get. Price isn't so bad at $70 for a bath sheet.

Abyss Super Pile Towels
These are the most expensive option I've seen at $138 for a bath sheet. 700 gram Giza 70 Egyptian cotton, which has an extra long loop. They have rounded corners. Not sure if that would make any difference, but it makes them stand out from most other towels. The widest variety of colors to choose from.

Matouk Milagro Towels
Thinnest of the bunch at only 550 grams, but apparently very soft with zero-twist Egyptian cotton. Regular price on the bath sheet is $78.

A local Bloomingdale's carries the Abyss and Matouk, so I plan to stop by with my girlfriend this weekend to check them out. I'll report back.

I'm interested to know if anyone has had firsthand experience with these towels, or has any other recommendations for a blissful towel experience. Opulence, I wants it.

Interesting, can you link to the ones you have? I like Missoni t-shirts, sweaters and socks.

I made my towel purchase this weekend after visiting Bloomingdale's. After reading online reviews, I was most interested in checking out the Abyss Super Pile and Matouk Milagro towels in person. Unfortunately, those 900g ones can only be found online. I thought that the Matouk felt softer, more plush and even thicker despite the higher gram count for the Abyss. And they're about half the price. Clear win for the Matouk, and I'm not the only person who felt that way. These people also came to the same conclusion: http://sharding.org/blog/2008/04/21/too-many-towels/ and http://www.drivenbydecor.com/2013/04...ious-bath.html.

I was expecting to merely check out the towels in the store and make a decision/purchase later online. However, Bloomingdale's had them at $70 plus 20% off for the bath sheet, less than I've seen them elsewhere even after tax. I bought two bath sheets, two hand towels and a bath rug. Used them for the first time today and they are by far the best bath towels I've ever had the pleasure to wrap around my body. And they aren't that expensive, especially for something you use every day. Opulence, I finally has it!

Gaddy,

Did you check out the Matouk Cairo? I need new towels too, and have a Bloomingale's a couple blocks away. You got the Matouk Milagro bath sheet there for how much? Bloomingale's online is showing them in stock at my store, but $95 for the bath sheet.

Hmm, this place has the 20% off deal going and 2 for $156 before discount, so $125 for 2 with free shipping. I'll prob do that: https://www.finelinens.com/p-1710-mi...by-matouk.aspx (MATOUK20)

No, I didn't. Went right to the Milagros since had read about them on multiple sites. They were on sale for $69.99 and then employee walked over and said they had an extra 20% off all towels that day. So $54 each plus tax. $125 out the door for two isn't far off. Might as well go over to the Bloomingdale's first and check them out for yourself, though.

Those things aren't even bath sheets. Completely inferior.

That's not a bad way to go if that's what you like, but realize you're going against my recommendation that in person I preferred the Matouk Milagro for being softer and thicker, not to mention half the price.

Gaddy, try a bamboo towel. I hear they're great and I might seriously consider one, especially vs a $70 towel.

I know some people sing their praises and mentioned them in my OP, but when I looked for specific towels considered among the best, it was all Egyptian cotton. I've made my choice and am happy with it, but would be interested to know if you or someone else has a specific luxury bamboo towel that you recommend.

i know, but they dont seem to be available in europe. of course i could order from the US. but: i found abyss in a german online store (all colors and sizes available), and the euro exchange rate is nuts atm.

Gaddy,

I checked out the milagro, and they were not quite as thick and heavy as I expected. Will still prob get a couple, though.

Well, as I said in the OP they are only 550g as opposed to the 700g of the Abyss. However, I felt the Milagro felt thicker than the Abyss. Did you get to handle the Abyss? If you want thick and heavy, you can order the 900g Turkish towels and report back!

Is "bath sheet" really that much better than "bath towel?" I had no idea a bath sheet was a thing and I just grabbed my towel and it is definitely not 6' long. I think the only towel I've used that was that big was one of those beach towels and I feel it'd be a bit unwieldy for regular shower use.

Yes, size does matter.

Those get solid reviews. Where did you get for $24? They are $40.99 on the site for a bath sheet.

When I posted the link it was for $24 for the green one.

First time I saw it I missed the price. For a week or so I checked prices on all colors.

It's amazing how big/thick/heavy this thing is. Puts a smile on my face every time I wrap it around me.

Thanks for the thread.
I've been using the same beach towel I got in Hawaii 30 years ago.
It's about as thick as a bed sheet it's shedded so much.

Was having the same dilemma a few months ago so I just asked for nice towels for Christmas. My Dad got me these:

https://www.restorationhardware.com/...yId=cat1870028

They're definitely a huge improvement over my Ikea towels and make getting out of the shower a lot easier, especially in the winter. They're substantial, but not heavy, and soft while being absorptive. I don't know if they're considered expensive, but I would recommend them for the price.

If you really want to live like a king you need to get yourself a towel warmer.
