"When you tell someone what you're doing and they don't think it's a crazy idea, then you're thinking too small. So when you walk up to a party and tell people what you do, well, I mine the moon. Well that's crazy, no I'm thinking big. What do you do? Write an app for iphone?"

No it's this guy, he's going down the cyborg route

He's going down the cyborg/android route rather than attempt to rescue the biological body

I would give the Russian a better chance of succeeding than the Bahamas guy though as with all this singularity type stuff his timescale seems ridiculously optimistic but wtf do I know?

Personally i don't see why he's making a humanoid body at all. If I were him i'd make my next body something like cthulhu. Or maybe just one of the Egyptian gods if i didn't want to freak people out too much

The idea that he's going to transfer his consciousness to a robot is so ridiculously stupid and impossible. Any company that sells the idea that this has a chance has got to be nothing more than selling a scam. Waste of his life, he should be looking into biological immortality instead, which we know is possible because some species can live indefinitely.

Whether we will be able to upload consciousness or not is an interesting debate atm. Afaik no one has come up with a conclusive argument one way or the other yet but there's definitely a chance that it's possible.

This is a really interesting discussion on the subject. I went in more on the side of the philosdopher and came out more on the side of the singularitarian.

Heres the index from the website:

Do human brains run software? 9:58
Consciousness, intelligence, and computation 3:14
What could minds be made of? 13:08
Is mind-uploading a dualist dream? 19:18
Would the Singularity be a Vonnegut-style catastrophe? 10:56

Yeh I enjoyed the Armstrong Lie.

I just watched Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony. I thought it was really well done and managed to be both very heart-warming, yet super cringeworthy and slightly creepy.

I've worked quite a bit with children/young adults with learning disabilities and it definitely seems many of the Bronies fall on the asperger spectrum. I know the people I worked with loved these type of cartoons too and, from the documentary, it does seem stuff like can be really good for them. Whether a girl's cartoon is the best way to help them is, of course, debatable.

Afterwards, with much trepidation, I attempted to watch an episode of MLP. I̶'̶m̶ ̶n̶o̶w̶ ̶a̶ ̶f̶u̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶f̶l̶e̶d̶g̶e̶d̶ ̶B̶r̶o̶n̶y̶!̶ Gave up after 2 minutes.

Both murderball and inside job are very good and easily found on youtube. Which one you prefer is probably strongly dependent on your interests

i REALLY enjoyed that louis theroux on rogan podcast. thank you for the rec. always loved louis, such an interesting person who i would love to have dinner with. as an aside, i came away from the pod thinking 'wow, he has an incredible memory' as well as 'wow, some of these impressions are pretty sick'

Well this was indeed masterful as the reviews suggested. I love when a documentary manages to present both sides of a story in an almost balanced way. By the end of this, I still wasn't really sure what to believe, other than a lot of people suffered on all sides. Highly recommend:
