I think it's been noted in other threads, but Tim Hetherington, co-director of Restrepo was killed a couple weeks ago in Libya. Only makes Restrepo more poignant in restrospect.

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia

Shoot-outs, robberies, gas-huffing , drug dealing, pill popping, murders, and tap dancing - what do these all have in common? These are just a few of the parts of being a member of the Wild and Wonderful White Family. The legendary family is as known for their wild, excessive criminal ways as they are for their famous mountain dancing members, including Jesco White, the star of the cult classic documentary "Dancing Outlaw." Exploring both the comic and tragic sides of life on the other side of the law, this stylish, fast-paced family portrait exposes the powerful forces of corruption, poverty, and West Virginia's environmentally and culturally devastating coal mining culture that helped shape the White family, a dying breed of outlaws preserving a dying form of dance.

+1. Very great documentary. I already knew the majority of the information covered in it, but it was still entertaining to watch.

CRAZY LOVE

I'm sure a lot of people have heard about the story behind this documentary, but it was new to me until I watched it today. One of the most incredible stories I've ever heard. In fact, as a screenwriter, I wish I had thought of it. It's so unimaniginable I can't get it out of my head. Anyone else seen it? Cliff notes:

Spoiler:
Lawyer sees a pretty girl on the sidewalk and stops to ask her out. They date for awhile, and then she dumps him. He stalks her, threatens her, etc and she goes to the police but they can't do anything. Eventually he hires a thug to show up at her house and throw acid in her face. She's disfigured for life. He goes to prison for a long time and when he finally gets out, they get married. WTF?

Thanks for the recommendation. And it's on Netflix Watch Instantly!!

And LOL at the picture of the lawyer on the cover art. Looks crazier than I imagined!

Don't think this has been mentioned yet itt:

You're Gonna Miss Me
- Just gonna copy and paste the description from Netflix (yes, it's available on Watch Instantly as well):

It's not easy being a pioneer. For proof, just watch this film about Roky Erickson, whose band, the 13th Floor Elevators, coined the term "psychedelic rock" in the 1960s. Targeted for his advocacy of pharmaceuticals, Erickson was busted for possession of a single joint in 1969 and spent three years in an institute for the criminally insane. This film covers his rise and fall, as well as his family's efforts to help him get his life back on track.

Haven't watched it yet, but sounds interesting and intriguing.

Another interesting sounding documentary available on Netflix Watch Instantly:

Until The Light Takes Us -

Taking viewers deep inside the notorious "Inner Circle" that promoted murder, suicide and church burning in the Norwegian black metal subculture of the 1990s, filmmakers Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell offer up a nuanced and fascinating documentary. Rare footage and interviews with musicians -- including Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes and Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg -- shed light on the controversial movement.

Haven't watched yet, so can't recommend or not recommend, but it has pretty good reviews on Netflix.

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco -

Photographer turned director Sam Jones started filming experimental rock band Wilco as they recorded their fourth album, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot," which was released in 2002 to nearly universal critical acclaim. As depicted in the film, however, it was a tumultuous time (the band nearly broke up). This documentary captures both Wilco's music and the story of how the band weathered the storm to release the album under a new label.

I didn't really like this one. I've never been of that style of music (or anything similar) but I've read the book that covered the Varg Vikernes story (among other crazy stories) and was hoping it'd been more like that. This is interesting to a degree, but it got pretty old pretty quick.

For anyone who enjoyed "Beer Wars" (mentioned ITT) and/or is into homebrewing I can recommend the docuseries "Brewmasters" which got cancelled after 5 episodes.

Basically following Dogfish Head while brewing a different beer each episode. Liked all 5 episodes.
