Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage

Best musical documentary I've ever seen. I'm a huge Rush fan (really huge) and I'm not being hyperbolus at all. Most bands I like I tend to know quite a bit about, but there's never been much (at least that I've seen) about Rush. Such a great doc. Goes WAAYYYYY back.

And the fact that I never saw the South Park Rush intro pisses me off. So freaking amazing. Raised SP up a few notches as well as Rush themselves.

I think I read about all of these in various 2p2 threads but I really enjoyed

gasland - A look at the natural gas drilling campaign that is happening across America. Heavy environmental and political tones, this one was a big eye opener for me.

The End of the Line - A documentary about just what is happening in our oceans and marine life due to overfishing currently taking place. A very strong message here about something I didn't know much about.

talhotblond - An internet love triangle started in chat rooms turns into a real life murder. This retraces what happened and was certainly entertaining.

Hackers Wanted - Talks about the origin of hackers and how the term has come to be associated with modern day computer criminals. The film covers a lot of ground with regards to modern computer security, historical innovations, legality and looks at the future. Has plenty of interviews with very famous hackers. If the subject interests you, this one is certainly worth a watch.

For Liberty - A documentary about Ron Pauls 2008 campaign. These one covers a lot of aspects of his bid for the Republican nomination and was quite engrossing. See the youtube link a few posts up.

The Journeyman Pictures channel on youtube is really good, There are thousands of documentaries, some ranging from just a few minutes to ones that are full length. Most of the docs are really well done and are produced English BBC esque, def worth checking out.

Here are some I like:

Ken Burns: The Civil War -I know, but it is very good

Murder on a Sunday Morning - cops arrested this black kid in a round up the usual suspects fashion. That someone can get a public defender as good as Patrick McGinnus amazing. This guy blows Perry Mason away-very moving.

Fast, Cheap and out of Control-My favorite Errol Morris movie.

The Stone Reader A movie on the surface about the search for a long lost author Dow Mossman. But its really ablout the love of books.

Jimmy Carter Man From Plains you will really like Jimmy after this great movie

Hands on a Hard Body: The Documentary -just like poker everyone here thinks the are the greatest and will win.

the human aspect of the story is truly amazing. Ric O'Barry, the guy who captured and trained the dolphins for the TV show Flipper is largely responsible for a lot of really terrible things that happen to dolphins and is trying to redeem himself and make up for his past sins by trying to stop the dolphin slaughter.

I may be slow here, but 'The Two Escobars' was really well done. What a ****ed up piece of history.

First 30 for 30 I've seen.

Bump for Power of Nightmares (BBC), also I Know What I Saw, the most compelling and well-produce documentary for the existence of intelligent life. Both should be readily available.

For all the chess players here, I've found an almost 3 hours long documentary about the 1990 world championship match between Kasparov and Karpov with both players taking turns in analyzing every single game of the match (the ones played in Lyon, they don't cover the New York part of the match). Don't worry, it starts off in SUPER bad quality (looks like a vhs rip) but after a few minutes it improves significantly.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the great recommendations throughout the thread. Would you happen to know of any good space/cosmology documentaries? Even stuff on quantum physics and things of that nature would be interesting. Thanks a lot.

Into The Universe with Steven Hawkings "The Theory of Everything" (1 of 3 episodes) and Phil Plait's Bad Universe (new series on Discovery). Not exactly documentaries..

Speaking of Morgan Freeman.. he narrated IMAX's Cosmic Voyage. Easily one of my favorites. You'll enjoy it.

amazing movie i saw it last year. Very honest look at a band who failed to make it continue their chase for fame into their older years.

A+
