You definitely want to go here, the pizza is excellent.

Go to the one on Charles Street. There is also one on Newbury too(as well as a few other spots), but I haven't been yet.
Tiny and awesome. One communal table in the middle of the floor.

I think it's the original but not sure.

Buy a pizza, not a slice to get the full effect of its awesomeness.
Slices are reheated and kind of meh...

Next on my list of 'haven't been yet' is to check out KO Prime, Ken Oringer's new steak place.
The guy is just a wizard, and he's a pretty cool dude to boot.

He just recently mopped up Kitchen Arena with Cat Cora during an Iron Chef coffee challenge.

I must be the only one disappointed with Upper Crust pizza. Had it a ton and its consistently good, but not amazing.

I just had Santarpio's last month for the first time and I liked it a lot. (If you feel like going to East Boston, which nobody ever does).

Upper Crust is a great chain, and I go there a lot. but it's not amazing pizza when measured against Regina in the North End, which despite being 100% touristy, is the best pizza in town (Pepperoni ftw)

I remember Santarpios being very good as well

the problem with pizza in Boston is that a ton of it tends be Greek-American style, not Italian style. very greasy crust, little sauce, etc

Pizzeria Regina is great, although the wannabe food snob in me is a little turned off that they are basically a chain with all the fanueil hall and other locations in malls, etc.

My girlfriend is from CT, so I've sampled the best pizza New Haven has to offer and it definitely is amazing. Modern, Pepi's, Sally's, etc. So, so good. Still, the people who wait in line outside for 3 hours on a weekend are insane.

I also like a completely different style they serve at Caserta's in Providence on Federal Hill, over by the Prov Place Mall. It's super doughy and the sauce is like on top of the cheese, but I can't get enough of it. Probably my favorite pizza place of all time.

Also, for those that don't know, Guy Martin, a 3 Star Michelin Chef from Paris is opening an restaurant in Boston called Sensing. It will be at the Regent Hotel at Battery Wharf in the North End and it

You can read an article about it here

And here is the website for the Paris Sensing

On the menu:

Quote:
Modern and healthful, good for the heart and good for the mind, offering a lot of vegetables. It will be a short, colorful menu, too, with dishes that are light, fresh, simple yet technical at the same time. I want my customers to taste the ingredients. To give you an example, there will be dishes like oysters in a jelly made with seawater, or a horseradish blanc mange. The menu will also follow the rhythm of the seasons and change a minimum of four times a year, more according to the produce available on the market.

if you're new to the boston area checking out a roast beef joint is mandatory.

unfortunately most of the great ones are outside the city. the merrimack valley (or just "the valley") is generally regarded as the best, with harrison's in andover being the king. however you can find good places in Salem, New Hampshire, Weymouth MA, Waltham MA etc. Kelly's is a semi-infamous chain although I'd say they're a step below some of the independent joints.

I saw mention of Pizza Regina....
If you go to the Original site in the Nawth End you may find you like it.

The last time I was there, Regina was clinging to it's Olde world charm that you could only find in a few of the New England / New York pizzerias.

The pizza crust is relatively thin which is a bonus for Massachusetts.

For many years the family that has operated Regina and the customers has been an integral part of the Italian community in the area.

Years ago a trip to Regina was a big deal for us.

To truly experience an authentic pizza situation, with a good pizza too, talk a walk thru the North End.

Oddly enough, the neighborhood has as many gamblers per square foot as any of Donald Trump's establishments.

For years there was a bakery a few blocks away where if you didn't call in advance, the day before you did not get anything. Every item was made to order and there was a waiting list as long as Giants home games.

ciao

Been in Boston for a month and a half, staying another, so far I've found:

Nightclubs/lounges/hotel bars:

Foundation Lounge - Wednesdays and Saturdays, international crowd
Liberty Hotel and Alibi - Alibi has a great patio, but I like the 2nd floor of the Liberty hotel better
33 Lounge - oldish (27+) people, great DJ, international crowd
Rumor - best Tuesday in town (both house & hiphop)
Saint - Fridays and Sundays (great Sundays), random music
Underbar - okay, both house and hip hop
Rock Revolution - Thursdays (random music)
Felt - Good-to-great DJ (all random music, most houseish) at the VIP floor, to few to fill up 3 other floors
Whiskey Park - good, small venue, hiphop

All places fairly up scale.

Heard good things about Venu, Mantra and District, haven't come that far yet, cool if anyone can share some insight. Also looking for a good fusion lounge/supper club(think Euro)

Restaurants

33 - decent, but not great
Mistral - great, great wine list, fantastic tuna tartar
No9Group oyster bar (don't remember name) - great
Eaten at a lot of random places, not worth to mention. Will try No9Park.

If you're here, hit me up. If you have tips, let me know.

Still looking for v. hot girls, let me know where they are...

spike's hotdogs! Walk out of there with 2k and a stomach ache.
07-30-2008 , 05:28 PM
The prosciutto wrapped mozzarella at capital grille is one of the simplest yet most delicious appetizers I've ever come across.
07-31-2008 , 03:05 PM
Will be at 33 tonight, Stix tomorrow and Marina Bay saturday, PM if you're around.

I went to Eddie Vedder last night with a guy from NY who had an extra fanclub ticket (12th row center...ship) and I took him to Parrish Cafe and hit up the outside patio. He had this rare tuna sando that looked pretty insane.

Then we went to Boston Beerworks.
Then toBeantown Pub.
Then toJacob Wirth's and met SlowPlayRay and friend.
Then to Fajitas and Ritas.
Then to Felt.
Then to The Opera House for the show.

We covered a lot of ground...

I've got 2 favorites that are just on the other side of the river in Cambridge. Helmand is really good, especially for the price. It's in northeast Cambridge near Charlestown and the galleria. Rendevous in central square is also worth looking at. Neither is a super nice restaurant but I've always had extremely solid food at both and they're not so busy that its impossible to get a table.

can't bother to see if these were mentioned but:

Salts (Cambridge), get the duck for 2
Craigie Street Bistro has a new Cambridge location, it rivals No 9 Park imo
Ten Tables has a new Harvard Square location, top notch food for a reasonable price

they are all at or near the level of the places you mentioned
