Heading to Boston for a couple days this weekend. What is the best area of town to hang out and bar hop with other 20 and 30 year-olds but not be submersed in loud, fratty nonsense?

This place can be an interesting spot for out of towners to get a nice view of the city on a clear day or evening:

Back Bay - lots of choices there.

Or go across the river. Start at Dali's for tapas in Somerville, make your way back to Harvard Square for drinks at Grendels (for down and dirty) or the Charles Hotel for upscale. Plenty of other places in the area, too.

Boylston Street is good for bar-hopping
Newbury runs parallel and is good as well.

The Alley (last block of Boylston) has bars, but is mostly collegy.

Avoid Top of Hub imo. Place has tanked, from what I've heard lately.

Oak Room is a solid steak
Oak Bar is the nuts. Live music. 25 foot ceilings. Top service. I could spend hours there.
Proper dress.

My personal hidden gem: The Parrish Cafe
Great beers. Menu consists of favorite comfort food of the best chefs in Boston.

Almost forgot, if you really want to be hip:

Go find a place called Lucky's.

No signage.

On the waterfront side of Congress Street.
It is diagonally across from 348 Congress(355 actually, I see), down a few stairs into a non-descript doorway(entrance pictured on website).

Totally retro-chic Swingers type of place.
Great bar. Great food. Great entertainment.
Just a slam dunk.

luckys on sundays is pretty sweet as they have some Sinatra guy last time I was there. I was a bit out of my element being a 22 year old college kid but it was still sweet. I wouldnt go to the ally unless you want to get a table or you are gonna wait in line forever for the good places...mostly clubs down there. South Boston has some bars that are prettty good for liek 20-30 year old after work crowd. Fan Hall is where I go but thats pretty much all college kids...trinity has some <21 babes there always which is always a fun.

Hey 27offsuit, whats the dress code for Luckys?

Thanks for all the tips, guys. I'm leaving in the morning, and will try to post a trip report when I get back.

I have only been to Luckys for Brunch on Sundays. So obviously I have yet to shower. Also, The Parrish cafe suggestion is really good, there is some sandwich with steak that is awesome. It's also open really late which is always a plus

It's a casual place. The Sliders are some of the best in the city. It's a good after work place, but I've never been there on a non weekday night.

Young business-chic, maybe. Although you could probably walk in with jeans and a tee and not feel out of place.

Mostly professional 20s-30s after work crowd, but leaning more towards arty professionals. Architects, designers, etc.

Also, very cute staff and female clientele in general.

I've heard Sunday brunch rocks, but have never been.

That would be The Regal Regis, my brotha.
My personal go-to, though I've worked my way through most of the sandwiches.

Nice call.

I went to Lucky's for the first time a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure they turn away ugly chicks at the door. Place was a lot of fun.

First off, thanks again for all the great responses.

I ended up spending Saturday afternoon at the Sam Adams Brewery (which is FREE and they give you tons of free beer) - I highly recommend it.

Saturday night we checked out a few bars, including Lucky's. Here are a few pics:

The outside of the building from across the street:

Looking down at the front door. Even as I was opening the door, I wasn't sure if I was in the right place:

Their drink menu along with my wife's drink on the left (called a Lady Luck), and my drink on the right (a dry Tanqueray 10 Martini with a twist):

East Coast Grill is fabulous. Get the hot as hell beef appetizer.
04-11-2008 , 10:13 AM
I love hot stuff, and that stuff is HOOOOOOOOOT!
Sweaty-eyeball hot...

Also, hit up the Parish Cafe yesterday for lunch with a friend/colleague. It was almost 70 out, they opened the front patio on Boylston and the streets were just dripping with snatch. Every single girl had on her best new spring outfit.
It was fairly incredible...

My favorites:

Japanese -- Oishii, by far the best sushi I've ever had
Steak -- Capital Grille
Pizza -- The Upper Crust
Mexican -- Sol Azteca
