Make sure you always look for good lumbar support when looking into desk chairs! I know you can find some good, originally extremely expensive refurbished desk chairs for cheaper online.

I've been trying out the exercise ball as office chair for the last couple of months. I found a 65cm Bell with a pump in the box at my local thrift store for $5.00 one day and gave it a try. The first week or so it was a little stiff on my butt but I've gotten used to it. Isn't very pretty, I can't lean back in it, and there are no arm rests so there is no relaxing on it. That being said, it is a whole lot better than the cheap office chair I was using.

When I first started using it I don't think I inflated it enough. I've since found that I like it better over inflated. I sit up higher and it doesn't feel squishy. Not sure if I am going to bother with a regular desk chair in the near future.

I found a few herman miller aerons at a decent price i think... They are completely adjustable and both have the posture fit instead of the lumbar support. Whats the cons and pros vs lumbar and posture fit? Most of my back pain is around my neck and shoulders- i think due to my current chairs arm rests being too wide for me to use while playing poker so therefore they are usually stretched out far on my mouse side to reach the armrest or they both just kind of hang close to my body with no support. Im also fixing to buy a sit-n-stand ergotron setup so that I can switch from sitting to standing when i feel the need.

One of the aerons is used but in good condition and is $300. The other one is brand new and is $375. Are these really good deals? Also does anyone have anymore suggestions considering my complaints with upper back/shoulder pain and neck pain? It bothers me daily and is the main reason I am finally throwing down some more money on my setup. Thanks in advance

$375 for brand new is a fantastic price. Make sure it is the correct size for you (ie, A, B, or C)

$1200ish for the desk, $700 for the chair.

Well, one of the arm pads on my Humanscale Liberty is all torn up now. I'm not sure if I can get a replacement pad. The chair is in great condition otherwise, so it would be a shame to junk over an arm pad. But I've had it for six years and am thinking of using this as a time to get a new chair. A guy on Craigslist has a used Embody for $600 that I'm thinking about if he will deliver it to me, but I hate to spend that much without trying a chair out first.

Meh, tried out an Embody today and wasn't enthused. Didn't like how you can't lean back with it. My favorite of the chairs I tried at the place were the humanscale freedom and the knoll generation. I didn't like the look of the generation from the back, though, which is a concern because this will be in my apartment and not behind a desk.

Doing some research into the Knoll Generation, it seems the display model I saw for some reason had a light frame with a black seat/back. It looks better with the dark frame, though still bulky. However, then there is a newer ReGeneration model that is a couple hundred less and is slimmer in the back. I can't tell if there's any negatives to the ReGeneration compared to the Generation. I'm leaning toward the Generation/Regeneration because it really felt like it conformed to your back, was great for recline and encouraged movement and active sitting. But they're also hard to find. You can order the ReGeneration off smartfurniture.com for $700 but it seems it will take about six weeks to deliver. With the armrest tore up on my Liberty, I really need a new chair sooner. There aren't any Generation/ReGeneration on craigslist in all of Southern California. There isn't a single ReGen on all of ebay, even in completed items. On the other hand, I can get this used prima leather Humanscale Freedom off craigslist for $600.

The lumbar support is great for reclining and it helps you achieve the natural curvature of your spin while leaning back. The posture fit targets the lower back and is more for people who lean forward in their chair. go with the region of your back that you are more trying to target and depending on how you sit.

HM on sale where I am, 15% off. I'm stuck deciding between Embody or the Aeron. The Embody is much more comfortable but it costs 50% more which is a lot to me. #fml

^ if 50% is a lot to you, you could also go for a good ikea chair and just take breaks more often to get up and stretch. will be the same effect as the embody/aeron imo.

I already have the ikea Markus which I hate because it find its hard to sit up straight in it. I always tend to slide down into a slouching posture.

Just confirmed via a contact that I can get designers discount at steelcase. Going to compare it and decide soon.

I think the Knoll Generation is so much better than the Embody and Aeron. I tried out all the top chairs at a Design Within Reach and the Generation was my favorite. What stands out about it is the way it moves with you, including how the back bends with you when you lean back. I find the rubber on the back more comfortable to lean against without a shirt than the mesh on other chairs. Got a good deal on it new with warranty for $804 shipped. Mine has dark frame, high-performance arms, ultra seat cushion and storm (matte black) seat and back.

Here's the best feature in the flexible back. It moves with you and goes right back into place.

And, as a bonus, here is my Human Touch Perfect Chair. Great to lie in whenever your back hurts. You can't sit upright in this chair comfortably. It's really meant for leaning back, and therefore can't be used with a traditional desk. It's such a big chair that if you and your girl are skinny you can both fit in it.

I am just about to pull the trigger on the Embody - I can only get the standard Black with the Rhythm fabric unless I want to wait 3 months for delivery.

Is there much of a difference between the Rhythm and Balance? Have done some searches and the consensus is no, but just wanted to do a final check.

I'm looking for a monitor arm with long reach for a 27 inch monitor. My setup is 20"-30"-20" (PLP), and I have an extra 27" lying around that I want to put above the 30" just for funsies. So I need the monitor arm to have long reach and be able to handle at least 17 pounds. Also it needs to be a desk mount and not a wall mount because it will be going on an UpDesk (an adjustable standing desk that goes up and down with the push of a button).

I have been looking online and can't really find anything that will work. Most desk monitor arms cannot accommodate my monitor size, and for the ones that can it's unclear whether or not they will be long enough to reach over my 30". The best one I have been able to find so far is http://www.ergotron.com/ProductsDeta...S/Default.aspx and I'm not sure if that will work. These monitors will only be used for poker. Would appreciate if anyone knows of where I can find what I need.
