I'm confused by this list. It's missing obvious things like Masa in NYC.

I've been working recently with an Alinea chef, and he mentioned to me the El Bulli regression theme and how chef beran and a few others came up with it sitting around one night while NEXT was being constructed...basically a best-of Ell Bulli through the years...I can't even imagine how amazing that would be. He thinks that Ferran Adria would definitely come out for the opening too.

If people think tickets are hard to come by now, I can't imagine what it will be like for that one...

22 year old couple, we like to get pretty smashed. I definitely appreciate a good beer selection, but don't care that much. I'd like a place to sit on the weekends while I get drunk, but also would be cool if there was a place to dance eventually if we wanted. Regardless, if there was just a place to sit and drink with good music and $5 beers or whatever, I'd be fine. I can't seem to find a happy medium between nightclub and restaurant
Villian's is a faux-ish rock bar with a great beer selection, good food, great specials, comfortable seating, and great service.

Rock Bottom is always a good time. Very cheap, as it's a brewpub, if you're unaware. Friday/Saturday night seems like it'd suck there, but I've never waited long for a table for two -- especially after dinner hours.

Schwallie, how about Kuma's corner? Not great for dancing but it's possible you'd like it enough to go there once a month.

I second Kumas, great food and brews.

ty for all the suggestions.

I've been to Villains, live close to there. But it is kind of(more than kind of) too punk rock for me. I went once and it seemed cool, and I went back a different time and there was a huge line of people in all-black and ****. Was definitely not my crowd that time around.

I was in Chicago last week for the Phish shows at UIC Pavillion. It was my first time in the city and i absolutely loved it. I stayed at the Marriot on N. Michigan Ave. on the Magnificant Mile, what a neat area. I can't wait for the next excuse i get to go to Chicago, because i'm definatley there. I'm from a small town in NC so this was my first time dealing with public transportation but i gotta say that it was very easy and convenient to use the L to get around the city. Can't wait untill i get to go back!

Pretty sure there's about two people in the world who have enough of a 'hook-up' at Alinea to get you a table...you are likely going to have to just call and do your best like the rest of us chumps

Haha, I'd probably set the over/under on # of people at around 100

But yea, thought I'd give it a shot. Looks like I'll just have to wait.

Recommendations for a place Downtown to grab lunch tomorrow. Needs to serve/allow booze, further North than the South Loop, and outside dining + view of water are both positives. Preferably affordable (Cafe Spiaggia is lined up if we decide to go fancy although I'm open minded).

just read this entire thread today, thanks for all the info! will be moving to chicago for a job in the next few weeks, pretty excited. I've visited a few times, but since I turned 21 a few years ago, I've basically only been to evanston. sounds like it's a pretty fun city.

only have a few friends that live there though, so I'd likely be interested in 2p2 meetups or more low key things. will probably come back here for more questions once I have a better idea of things.

so now that its football season, where are some good places in gold coast area to go watch games on the weekend?

Im the type of guy who would rather just hang out with bros and drink some beers instead of doing the club thing all the time. I finally settled in to my place in the city and havent met many people yet so if anyone wants to chill shoot me a message.

I did a co-rec soccer league last year and starting one up in a few weeks. I think meeting new people depends on all sorts of things (day/sport/competition). We play Sunday afternoon-ish in the worst league (competitively). While we have met some people, most people are too tired/hungover/want to watch bears after game is over.

If you're interested, I can let you know whenever we are man short. No worries if you're no good cause half the team(myself included) is terrible

Yeah Ill definitely be in, I played intramural soccer one semester and our team was 3 guys who had played in high school and on a competitive travel team who got us to sign up, then any 8 guys who were around and awake at the time of the game. I am not very good.

If you give me the info then I could probably just sign up myself for the team.

awww yea I'd be interested in soccer. Played in H.S. and a lot in college(not on teams, just intramurals/random games). So I may actually be an improvement, though not much of one I am sure.
