I'm actually moving to andersonville next month. pretty excited for that. I work at home so no commute worries and I'm close enough to the red line / LSD anyways

GBP,

Nice! I've loved living in Andersonville. Welcome to the nbhd. Drop a PM if you want to grab a beer. Would be nice to get a larger meetup together at some point too.

IRAZE,

"taking all things into account" is, as others have said, really problematic. We all have different weights on those factors. It might be more helpful if you said what you are looking for / what's important to you, and we can try to help you figure out how those needs match up with the various places.

Personally, I was really surprised when I spent a week in Lincoln Park how much I liked it. It was very different than Andersonville or Wicker Park, but previously I'd crossed it off my mental list as fratty/etc. Yes, it was pretty monochromatic relatively-wealthy white people. But - parks, close to lake, close to downtown = short commute, safe, decent bars, decent restaurants, really nice homes, ... It has its charms!

The thing is that the lake isn't even that far from me. I'm about a 2 mile walk from the lake and when it's nice out like it is today, it's far from a big deal.
I'm in buck town as well and wholeheartedly agree.

The Duck Inn is my new favorite restaurant. Everything about is top notch and the duck is easily the best I've ever had.

Siena Tavern also A+, but a little pricey.

I've been to Siena Tavern twice, food was decent to good, but service was horrendous both times I've been there.

I think Parachute is my current favorite restaurant in Chicago. Been there three times, each time felt unique and every dish was actually crafted in a way that was different from what you can get anywhere else.

Went a few weeks ago for the first time. Thought it was very good. Menu is completely standard upscale steakhouse fare, execution of dishes and service was above average.

Also had a similar experience. Been twice, the time we ate the food was decent but the service was atrocious, the other time they sat the wife and myself at a table upstairs, in the middle of the floor, place was completely empty. I asked to be moved to a booth or table by the windows, they refused for some bizarre reason, and that was the end of that, we walked out.

Anybody been to Giant in logan yet? Looks pretty interesting.

I was just at Giant this past weekend. Every dish was unique and I loved most of what I tried. Overall a chill vibe. Place is pretty small/packed fwiw.

Gotta try the fried uni shooter. Other highlights for me were the crab salad, eggplant, and the pici.

Any ideas on a good spot to either walk-in on Friday or get a reservation on short notice for 4?

Areas I'm thinking: Logan, Avondale, Andersonville, anywhere not LP or Lakeview I guess.

Open to any and all interesting ideas

Give Osteria Langhe a call. They may have a 4 top available. I've also been surprised at how available the Bristol has been lately. The food is as good as it always has been. I've also noticed that Taxim doesn't seem to be overflowing anymore either and I feel their food is in the same boat as Bristol(as in still very good, but maybe people are getting tired of it?)

Went to Table Donkey and Stick last Friday, wasn't that crowded so they might be able to squeeze in a walk in.

I'd also try Antico for Italian food.

I'd just like to say...the dry-aged bone-in ribeye at Bavette's is life-altering. Never had a steak come close to that.

Not sure if this is proper protocol but does anyone want this canvas I have? 26x26 so on the larger side.

Went to Blackbird in the West loop

They describe themselves as elegant and imaginative midwestern food. This is a pretty accurate description.

For the appetizer, we ordered the curry squash cavatelli, which was delicious, even though the presentation looked pretty bland.

For main courses, I got the suckling pig pave, which had pig served two different ways and was outstanding. My date got the flounder, which was a little bland.

For dessert we got the funnel cake, which was a little too sweet for my liking, but a great presentation.

For every thing we ordered, what came out of the kitchen looked completely different than what I had envisioned in my head. The atmosphere is contemporary. It was crowded, and we had to move our table a couple times to let a larger person out to go to the bathroom.

Based off of the pig alone, I can definitely recommend this restaurant. It's not as good as the price would suggest, but still a very satisfying meal.

Is that the one next door to Avec?

If so had the same experience with spacing issues but food was pretty good

Blackbird was very nice but very much on the pricey side at $550 all in for 2 people. Next time id rather save the money and go to Boka or whatever. Also it's tough to get a spot, but El Ideas was way cheaper and way better

Ideas on places to go in the city for a group of 7 people? 3 couples + 1.

Most of us are just out of college and aren't looking to blow a ton of money. One couple is coming in from Florida and wants to experience Chicago.

We're all in to good food and beer. We're all in the age group of 23-32.

I realize that leaves a lot of options, but give me any ideas that you have, because I'm sort of overwhelmed for choice.

Thanks in advance!

Publican is the first thing that came to mind. You could also do Half Acre or Revolution if you want a brewpub. Hopleaf or Fountainhead if you want good food with great beer.
