As far as the neighborhood, I'm not a fan at all. There's decent eating options, grocery stores and there's a ton of new development down there but I'd really recommend the north side.

Agree. There was a point where it looked like the south loop was gonna really turn into something, but it really stalled out after the crash in 08.

Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go
If the only thing that's important to you is getting a good deal and having the minimal commute, and your job is in a relatively small area of downtown, then the south loop isn't so bad. But otherwise, it's pretty terrible. The only thing really worth going to is the Showplace Icon movie theater (because you can bring booze in to the theater), and otherwise the south loop is mostly good because it means people living in Hyde Park have significantly better access to groceries, Target, etc than they did before.

Is it a no no because of the lack of **** to do? Or does it suck safety wise? Thanks a ton, I really appreciate your input.

I don't know much about the safety of the area, but as far as I know, it's not an unsafe neighborhood. It's the fact that aside from high-rise condos, there's just not much there at all.

Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go
Going to Girl and the Goat tonight. I'm pretty pumped for this as my girlfriend and I have been waiting for about 3 months for a table. Neither of us are really foodies per se but we do love good food and good drinks so this should be a lot of fun. I've heard that it's actually a pretty affordable experience as long as you don't go overboard with drinks.

Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go
I've only been to Paris Club out of the ones you mentioned. It was crowded for a Wednesday night, cool atmosphere but also very loud. Didn't eat downstairs but the food is supposed to be good. I can see it being a hard place to talk to girls but it was fun.
We also spent a good amount of time on Hubbard St. But I don't recall the Inn...probably because there are so many other bars in the area

Is domu your favorite site to check for places to rent?
$1,700 for 1BR + Parking in River North seems like it'd be hard to find. Hope I'm wrong
