Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go
lol, no I don't carry any weapons when traveling on the CTA. It's perfectly safe during normal hours with the biggest risk being shoved into a person with bad BO.
There is a common profile for targets on the CTA which is that these people are carelessly holding their iPhones out and basically waving a flag to be targeted.

I a little bit amused that possibly you may be saying "good bit north of [boystown]" (Uptown?) > Boystown though. Is that what you're saying? Are you even familiar with the city at all?

the new place is north of addison which is north of boystown, is that wrong? whats uptown have to do with it?
i wouldnt want to live in an area that was dominated by hipsters or senior citizens either. nothing wrong with that imo

Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go
What kind of people are you looking to live around? Chicago isn't a good place to choose to live if you don't want any of those three groups in fairly high numbers anywhere around you.
Of course boystown is the big gay area, but there is an above average amount of gay people all over the north side of Chicago. I personally find that a positive, if you're stereotyping or selecting by common "groups" gay people are some of the safer, cleaner, more well to do folks that are tolerant of other people's choices and decisions that you can find.
There are large senior populations on the northwest outskirts of the city and of course in the suburbs. You probably don't want to live south of where the White Sox play, nor west of the United Center. Hipsters leaves out Logan Square, Wicker Park, Humbolt Park, Pilsen and a few other areas, though those areas all have a higher than average % of gay people too.
I'm wondering where you'll find happiness in Chicago lol.

Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go
That's not what people think, trust me. You could live smack dab in the middle of boystown and people wouldn't assume you're gay. It's still a very nice neighborhood on the northside, close to the el, wrigley and the lake. Only idiots would assume you're gay bc you live there.

they won't assume you're gay because you live there, they'll assume your gay when they see you walking down the street holding some dude's hand, you homophobe.

this is far from exclusive to logan square. If you generally stay east of kimball or kedzie, it's just fine. A friend of mine lived on diversey and pulaski for 2 1/2 years and I never was ****ed with walking there at night or had my car broken into.
I've had my car keyed however in both lincoln park and lakeview. A friend who lived on sheffield and armitage had his house broken into and a lot of expensive stuff stolen. My friend who lived in logan sq had his apt complex broken into (though not his apt) when he lived in lincoln sq.
My point being, bad **** can happen in any neighboorhood.
and lol dk. Seriously, boystown is a great place to live. Hint, there's a ****ton of girls who live there. I've had plenty of non-gay friends live in boystown. The only thing that sucks about boystown (no pun intended) is that it's near impossible to find parking

Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go
speaking of east lakeview: for those that may not know, there's a brewpub that's going to open there on briar this fall:
http://dryhopchicago.com/
unless their beer sucks or the rent becomes way too much, I can't see them not making hand over fist within 2 years
