Then was thinking of hitting up a bar but want something quieter, not sure if this is possible on NYE tho, would I need tickets or some crap?
Oh boy,

A couple of things about NYE in Chicago.

1) Every bar you would want to go to will be butts to nuts, guaranteed. They all do drink packages in the $100-150 range. It will be extremely packed and hard to get a drink no matter where you go, it's just how it is.

2) Finding a taxi is damn near impossible. Same with Halloween, but even worse on NYE. The past two times I went to a bar we had no ride planned and I walked almost an hour each time until we lucksacked a taxi or to the nearest el. You either need a DD or public transit plan if you are going to do this.

3) If you can find a party to go to it would be far superior. The past few years I have gone the party route or rented a place in Michigan just over the border with a bunch of friends. Both of these experiences were way better than my last few bar trips.

The few times I had fun on NYE in Chicago was right when I moved to the city and we had like 30-40 people we knew go to a bar a block from our place, then had people over after for a late night party. When you have that many people you can take over an entire area of a bar and getting drinks is a little easier, plus its way less annoying to be packed into a small area with people you actually know.

Obvious food recommendations are Lou Malnatis deep dish and Kuma's Korner burgers if you don't care about your heart.

You should definitely check out The Pub in Ida Noyes Hall. As well as Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap. Both are institutions.

If the weather is nice, it's a long walk (but pleasant) from Hyde Park to McCormick Place along the lake path.
Yea, not serious. My cousin plays football there, and we're using his homecoming game as a family reunion of sorts.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Looking forward to it

Is this B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted? There appear to be a lot of blues bars in chicago

That or Kingston Mines. They're across the street from each other. College ID = no $10 cover Sun-Thurs at KM.

BLUES on Halsted is right next to Kingston Mines, both are fun blues places.

+1 to the Gage.

Laugh Factory is another option for stand up. Haven't been to Second City yet but been to LF twice and it was really fun both times.

FYP

Dont let a silly goirdano's fanboy fool you. Both are good by Lou's is way more unique. You can find pizza similar to Giordano's across the country, but Lou's you cant.

Im a sausage, pepperoni and onion guy fwiw

download Uber and you can pull a cab or black car better than you can on the street during the crazy times, but yes you will likely wait a while if you try and catch a cab on NYE.

Even with Uber, getting a cab is a PITA depending on what part of the city you're in on NYE

I would say that if he wants to go deep dish, that Art of Pizza is the best call. The pizza is awesome and you can get it by the slice

Art of Pizza is technically stuffed pizza if I'm not mistaken. And ordering by the slice < ordering a full pizza (in terms of freshness generally).

As always, you have to throw Pequod's into the mix for great pizza too.

obviously the fresher the better, but putting one of those bad boys down by yourself is extremely hard

Imo go to Lou's, Pequod's, and Giordano's, then come back and report your findings

Gage is a great rec for the area.

Also really like the suggestion to brown line to Lincoln Sq and barhop for a tourist.

If you have a car on last day maybe hit a South side bbq place or birreria zaragoza and or huck Finns.

Speaking of south side BBQ joints, can anyone confirm that Uncle John's is indeed closed? I saw that it was listed as closed on yelp, but there were no tips or reviews bemoaning its closing. It would be really sad if it did close.

Pequods didn't really do it for me, seemed more like a pan pizza. It was good but c'mon, we're talking about Lou Malnatis here in comparison

Well it is a pan pizza

Giordano's thin crust is better than their deep dish/stuffed pizza. There, I said it.

With Uncle John's now closed, what would be the best South Side BBQ joint? Bullet Proof glass should be included

What's the best way of getting tickets to alinea? I follow them on twitter/facebook and they post occasionally open tables for the night, but they seem to go very quickly.

The guys that run DMK Burger Bar among other restaurants opened up a BBQ place in Little Italy called County BBQ. I think it only opened in July but I've been hearing good things, though I haven't been myself. Apparently they deliver as well.
