In a 10-day span, which began yesterday, I will eat at Pequod's, Glazed & Infused, Sun Wah BBQ, and Kuma's Corner. Nom nom nom nom.

In related news, Kuma's is apparently doing separate Burgers of the Month at each location from now on. Check them out here.

I thought there was no way that this place could live up to the hype.
I thought wrong.

can vouch for the brisket, pulled pork, and fried chicken. By far, the best BBQ I've had in this city. **
the meat doesn't come with sauce. nor should it.
wife says the vegetarian bibimbap was excellent as well. I was not interested in verifying.

they have exactly 6 barstool seats, so eating in is unlikely. they've also been too busy to take call in orders on the last two friday nites. and they are closed on sundays and mondays.

**though the porkbelly pastrami sandwich from the pork shoppe --http://www.porkshoppechicago.com -- is still my most favorite-ist sandwich on the planet.

Haven't exactly had everything but Cafe Iberico is decent. More casual and inexpensive.

which IMAX theaters in chicago are legit ones? I know that some places will say they are IMAX but in reality they are just slightly larger movie screens.

thanks in advance

=======

also worth noting its oktoberfest time. i've enjoyed both Laschet's Inn (Lakeview) and Prost! (Lincoln Park)

+1. Let me know how Gravity is, I'm looking to see it in IMAX too.

If we're being technical, Oktoberfest just ended.

But, people should definitely hit up places in north center and Lincoln Square for more traditional German bier fun (surprised the Radler didn't try to time their opening with Oktoberfest)

So going to be back in Chicago early december, spending new years in CHI, is everywhere going to be a **** show? I really despise new years because there's too many people/moron's.

Was basically thinking going out for dinner somewhere with the GF, and was hoping to get some suggestions! Will eat anything, have enjoyed the following before: Seppia, Publican, Avec, G&G and a few others that are mentioned in here.

Then was thinking of hitting up a bar but want something quieter, not sure if this is possible on NYE tho, would I need tickets or some crap?

Going to be in Chicago Thursday-Monday, centered on some family stuff Saturday but will be mostly on my own. Here's a quick, broad itinerary I threw together for a line check. Staying at the McCormick Place Hyatt Regency:

Thursday
-arrive 11:05am
-Park day – McCormick Bird Sanctuary, Northerly Island, Grant Park, Millennium Park
-Shakespeare Theater – Cyrano de Bergerac 7:30pm (already got tickets, the $20 deal for people under 35 is pretty incredible).

Friday
-Chicago Architecture River Cruise
-Art Institute of Chicago

Saturday
-U Chicago football game – 1:30pm
-Museum of Science & Industry
-Jackson Park/Promontory Point

Sunday
-Lincoln Park – Zoo, Nature Museum, Oz Park
-Second City – 7:30 (should I try and get tickets ahead of time?)

Monday
-find somewhere to explore until my plane leaves
-Flight leaves 6:55pm from Midway

Any suggestions? Am I missing anything or doing something wrong? FWIW, my love walking around new cities, exploring interesting neighborhoods and parks.

Also, any food recommendations nearby my activities. I like literally everything so I'm really just looking for the best/most uniquely Chicago food experience (can't really afford the ridiculously expensive fine dining experience though, unfortunately). I have a list of places, mostly from this thread, but its pretty overwhelming and potentially dated. Something like a good place to get a drink and listen to live music would also be appreciated.

Hahaha, UofC football, nice. I assume you know people there?

You should definitely check out The Pub in Ida Noyes Hall. As well as Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap. Both are institutions.

If the weather is nice, it's a long walk (but pleasant) from Hyde Park to McCormick Place along the lake path.

I was under the impression people sold $400 rooftop tickets to watch UofC games. Maybe I was thinking of some other Chicago sports team

Not sure if serious

Obvious food recommendations are Lou Malnatis deep dish and Kuma's Korner burgers if you don't care about your heart.

Giordano's >>>>>>> Lou Malnatis.

Oh, we're doing this. (I used to live 100 feet from the Giordano's in HP...)

Get some deep dish, go to Kuma's corner (either location), check out Wiener's circle and if that sounds like fun *definitely* go, it's hilarious. Get second city tickets in advance but at least consider going to IO instead or in addition (Chaos Theory on Saturday has a great cast), they offer very different experiences. Go to the blues bar.

I would definitely recommend eating at the Gage since you will be in this area. Do this before going to the theater. After the theater, grab a beer at Farmhouse on Chicago ave.

Friday
-Chicago Architecture River Cruise
-Art Institute of Chicago

Since you'll have plenty of time in the evening, You have a lot of options here. If you're into craft beer, you can get to any of the main places using the L. Take the Blue Line to California for Revolution. The Green Line to Lake for Haymarket. The Brown Line to Montrose for Half Acre. I can get more into the dining options depending on which place you feel like going to.

Saturday
-U Chicago football game – 1:30pm
-Museum of Science & Industry
-Jackson Park/Promontory Point

I have nothing for this during the day. Someone who knows the Hyde Park area better can give you recs.

Sunday
-Lincoln Park – Zoo, Nature Museum, Oz Park
-Second City – 7:30 (should I try and get tickets ahead of time?)

For food, you will definitely have a lot of options. I would say that Taco Joint is a fun place to go to for "higher end" tacos and I would definitely say that Local Option in Lincoln Park is great for beer as is Sheffields in Lakeview. If Cocktails are your thing, definitely check out Barrelhouse Flat on Lincoln Ave. and if Whisky is your thing, make sure you go to Delilah's.

Monday
-find somewhere to explore until my plane leaves
-Flight leaves 6:55pm from Midway

This could be a toughie. If you are taking the Orange line, you will want to stay near it. If you have a car, that changes things. W/o a car, spending some time in Chinatown is definitely worth it.

suggestions in bold. You'll be here at a great time of the year. Enjoy

this is a fail (and I'm not necessarily the biggest Lou's fan, but Girodano's doesn't stack up at all)
