Everything about it is pretty good except the overall difficulty of eating the dogs. I am not a fan of the oversized Texas toast buns, and some of the toppings are just not designed for hot dog, but that's kind of the point. I just think that right now, Hot Dougs does a better job of prepping toppings so they aren't silly on a dog.
+1 to pretty much all of this. Clybourn is always awful. Don't like the texas toast buns. Had the breakfast hot dog last time I was there and it was fantastic. Beats waiting in line for 30 min at Hot Doug's

Don't travel alone if possible. If not, just always be aware of surroundings, especially when it's dark out. I've heard multiple stories of people getting their ipods stolen. They are just listening to music while someone unexpectedly approached them from behind, knocks them in the head and jacks their ipod. just awful.

Checked out Cemitas Puebla yesterday for lunch after seeing it multiple times on Food Network. Had the breaded pork sandwich. Damn, that was good. Highly recommended.

You seemed surprised that something like this happens, so I'm guessing you didn't grow up in a big city. I'm born and raised in Chicago and rode the CTA everyday of high school, so being protective and knowing what to look for is almost second nature to me.

First, you gf shouldn't have been walking down an alley by herself, sorry, just a stupid move and I don't understand how she didn't realize this. Next, while it sounds simple, always be aware of your surroundings. Ill wear and use expensive crap while taking public transportation, but I'm always aware of people who are around me, especially if anyone is behind me. Also, if you have an expensive phone or so, keep it in a pocket ldo. If you have a bag or backpack with you, always keep an arm or leg inside of a strap (I slept almost everyday on the orange line from downtown to midway while coming home from school and never had a problem cuz my bag was wrapped up with the pockets facing in towards me.)

All in all, just use common sense and realize you're in one of the biggest cities in the country and not everyone in the midwest is super duper nice.

Next and El Bulli news:

http://chicago.eater.com/archives/20...wait-a-bit.php

Quote:
The exception will be for elBulli, which will have a fixed cost of approximately $365 for food and drink pairings for everyone regardless of the day or time you dine. That cost can change based on the number of courses offered, the type of serviceware and equipment they'll need, etc., which will all be figured out once Grant Achatz and Dave Beran have finalized the menu, for which they're starting recipe testing this week.

During elBulli, which will only have one seating a night for the approximately 20-course dinner, the restaurant will only sell about 62 tickets per night, 50 of which will go to season ticket holders and the remainder will be sold as day-of tickets. Two tickets per night will be held and auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Um, El Bulli at Next will be once in a lifetime and pretty much on par with Alinea.

and twice as much when you factor in what cit noted. If I was to drop that money, I would want ferran adria himself in the kitchen and I'd want to be in spain

It will be pretty amazing so I'm gonna try to do it, but charging more than El Bulli itself is a little crazy (Wikipedia says average cost there was about $320)

El Bulli also lost millions of dollars a year. I'm pretty sure they could charge way more ... how much do you think the tickets will go for?

What tickets, the season tickets? A friend was telling me he thinks it'll be $2k/pair

According to Eater, the EB tickets will be $365 w/ wine pre-tax/tip and around $475 post

Re: Chicago: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Quick rough calcs based on their FB page dates info and the 50 seatings a night is that there will be around 80 EB nights = 4,000 season ticket seatings

So if season tickets are $1k/person I'm guessing it won't be too terribly hard to get 1 of 4,000
