put down a deposit for a place just west of lincoln on schubert in lp today right near lou malnati's! thoughts on this location?

we're in a weird situation cause we wanted this new construction place a few blocks west on wayne but there was lots of confusion/guy never calling us back so we kind of panic-deposited on this other place, but now a different (competent) person is saying the other one is available, so now it's a debate to go for the new construction much nicer place in slightly worse location vs. just sticking with this one we deposited on

the new construction has living room, kitchen, family room, deck, stairs to garage deck all on the first floor and 4 bedrooms on the bottom floor. this layout seems really good for having people over.

the other one has 2 bedrooms on each floor, living rooms in front, deck + garage deck in back and living room sizes are way smaller. it also has 3 full baths instead of 2.5 and has 2 garage spots (we have 2 cars) which is a pretty big deal to the other guy with a car.

i think i'd prefer the new constr cause i'll be inside so much so having big living rooms and nice finishes is very valuable. thoughts?

no real thoughts on the dilemma between taking this place vs the new construction, but the location of this place is pretty nice. close to depaul, so plenty of nightlife type stuff if you're into that. tons of restaurants nearby (since you're pretty close to halsted). close to the train, which is always a big plus.

so have been walking around lincoln park a few times over the past couple weeks as we were looking at apartments and just doing general exploring. so far have been kind of disappointed with the restaurants- seems like most of them are bars and all the good restaurants are further south.

tried

-rose angelis - right near apartment i'm getting and got great reviews, but the pasta and chicken were both pretty disappointing
-pete's pizza on lincoln - claim to have best thin crust pizza in chicago and it was really good, but with lou's around the corner doesn't seem too useful
-lou malnati's - obviously the best
-nookies too on halsted - ugh should've probably ordered breakfast food. the chicken/pasta was atrociously awful

any suggestions to try between just north of diversey and just south of fullerton?

also any bar suggestions (for low 20's age) in that area? met some friends at "state" on webster just south of fullerton last week and it seemed pretty loud but was a perfect age group.

also going to join the lakeshore athletic club cause it seems like the only fit center in the area to offer tennis and squash as well as having decent facilities, though it seems pretty run down and costs $100/mo.

tried the diversey driving range. not much to say about this except that parking sucks there as it was "full" for much of the day even though they wouldn't let people in as others exited. driving range pretty standard, off mats. any golfers in this thread? what are the go to courses in the area? seems like they're all really far away, kind of 30 minutes minimum. some like harborside and the glen club are close but are very pricey. was hoping there'd be some good options in the $30-50 range to play a few times a week next summer. looks like glen ellyn and george dunne are solid and the ones up north near winnetka/highland park are alright.

You are literally a 20 second jog from my place. Seminary and Wrightwood approx. Near Wrightwood Tap.

Do you mean Pat's Pizza on Lincoln? It's not bad. Nice place, bad location. I've only eaten there a couple times but it was decent food. I never order anything fancy though. And for pizza I always go to Sarpino's (Lincoln and Diversey...delivery place) or Chicago's Pizza simply because both are open until the wee hours of the morning and are cheaper.

Lou Malnati's is good. There's also a Gino's East at 2801 N Lincoln Ave.

Hit up Toro. It's close enough if you feel like a nice walk. It's around Clark and Deming. It's a sushi place. Just be prepared to have to put your name on a waiting list.

Also try Brick's Pizza. It's at 1909 Lincoln Ave. Great little pizza and beer place.

State Bar is awesome. Go there on Tuesdays at 8 pm (but arrive around 7 to get a seat). It's trivia night. $800 first place prize. $200 for second and $100 for first. You must have 2-8 people on your team. The whole thing takes about 2 hours. There is no charge to play. Great time. The place will be packed.

My other favorite bars in the area are:

Kirkwood Bar & Grill (Nebraska bar baby!) - It's a very nice bar, slightly expensive but worth it, great people, best beer garden in the city imo, TVs everywhere, and some cute waitresses. Same crowd as State Bar. I've never met anyone who didn't love this bar.

Kendall's - It's your basic sports bar. Pretty decent sized place. Food is average but they have decent drink specials. I go here specifically for UFC fights however. It's $10 cover and every table will be full. If it's an especially huge fight like Jackson vs. Griffin, St. Pierre vs. Penn, Lesnar vs. Mir the whole place a madhouse (in a good way). The waitresses are alright but the owner is cool as hell. He walks around, talks to the customers, and bought me a drink just for making room for other customers to sit down.

Barleycorn - Huge place. A bit loud because of the dancing that goes on but it's fun. Wide variety of people. And if it sucks there's 20 other bars next to it to check out.

Uncle Fatty's - Pretty close to Kirkwood's. Beach themed place. Very loud but good live music. Tons of space to walk around. People are usually playing bags or whatever inside. There's 3-4 bars in there at least. There's also a separate bar area attached (used to be a separate building/bar) to get away from the loud noise.

There are tennis courts at Seminary and Wrightwood (Jonquil Park). Just play there instead of paying $100 a month imo.

i lived at wrightwood/seminary for the past year too.

bourgeois pig -- awesome cafe, great sandwiches/panini's -- get the hobbit or the great gatsby if you like bacon at all, if not try turkey panini or chicken parm, unbelievably good.

lou's OBV

can't stand ginos east...not a bad place to go with friends due to BYOB and cheap prices (for deep dish)

cafe furaibo for sushi - byob, good lunch place, been there for dinner a few times too. underrated sushi place, imo.

if you are looking for fine dining in the area, not much to speak of. it's a collegey part of town. tons of great stuff closer to downtown/the lake tho.

wow funny that two of you guys live @ wrightwood/seminary...my buddy lives directly on the corner, diagonal from wrightwood tap

+1 on bourgeois pig

a 5 guys just opened @ clark/fullerton, and sarkis just opened there too where house of hunan used to be

another good deli place is deli boutique on clark/belden, they have rly good breakfast sandwiches

Riccardo Trattoria is also a very very good italian place

I moved to Clark and Wrightwood about a month ago (pretty much next to Weiner Circle). Haven't been out much in the past couple of weeks cause of injury, but have been to a few places:

Toro - Talked about this earlier. Loved their sushi. Because of how small it is, you're gonna have to wait if you get their anytime after 6-630.

Dunlays (Clark/Wrightwood) - Went their once for breakfast. Thought the food was decent. their hashbrowns were amazing.

Kendalls - Mentioned earlier. Went their for the MLB All-Star game. Thought food was allright. Unfortunately they were out of burgers (which was like a 1/4 of their dinner menu). Prolly won't be going there again.

Orange Peel - Brunch/breakfast place. Locations at Clark/Belmont and Clark/Fullerton. Went to Clark/Fullerton and enjoyed the food. I'm not sure if it's as good as Egg Harbor though (know your a fan of that place Chis)

Mickey's (Clark/Arlington) - Kinda like a sports bar. Food was allright. Really good looking waitresses. I enjoyed hanging in the beer garden, especially since it was so nice outside.

Avenue Tavern (Oakdale/Broadway) - Got the appetizer platter. Thought it was allright.

+1 for the enjoying Lou's a lot more than Gino's East.

I see the new Five Guys on Clark/Fullerton. Haven't been there yet, but people who have say it's a much better version of Culver's.

on Lincoln between Roscoe and Belmont, so a bit north of where you are but it's pretty good

I think their pasta is average but the Bread Pudding dessert is soooo good.

LAC is going to be the best option in that area, but if you're willing to spend $100/mo, you should just join East Bank Club. The membership dues for ages 21-25 are $120/mo and they have the best/biggest gym in Chicago. (driving range ftw) They also have a massive rooftop pool/sundeck/bar that you can take your friends/girls to in the summertime which can be pretty fun.

(I'm looking for a tennis partner at the gym so figured I would pimp EBC )

Diversey is the only outdoor range I know of in the city. Kind of ****ty, but the only option. I've gotten semi-serious about golf the last year, I try to play at least twice a week.

Basically, plan on driving 30-60 minutes for every round. Harborside is the closest, and its pretty challenging/expensive. I love it though, definitely one of my favorites in Chicago. There are a ton of courses in every suburb, average rounds are going to cost around $60. Tough to find anything for under $40.

I keep hearing everyone rave about Toro, gonna try to check it out this week.

Also, a new bar is opening near my condo! 'Old Town Social'. I think it opens this weekend, looks pretty cool just from looking in the windows.

Almost all decent courses in the area (including harborside) have twilight rates for almost half-off their regular rates. My roommate played harborside yesterday afternoon for $53. Just check out their websites.

On Uncle Fatty's...Either you like it or you hate it. I, for one, hate it. Extremely crowded with a particularly douchy male contingent.

Kirkwoods is my favorite bar out of the ones in the area. Great bar to watch any sporting event, especially college. Huge outdoor beer garden. Youngish crowd, hot ladies.

In terms of nightlife, it depends on the mood. For regular bars, my favorites are english, stanleys, and kirkwood tap. For clubs/lounges, I like underground, manor, Bon V, Y-bar, and rino.

The golf room is really cool to have, but not blow-you-away nice or big. Still, to have one in a gym is pretty awesome.

Weight room is pretty good. Plenty of squat/bench racks. Also, the treadmill/eliptical room is freakin enormous. It's got like 30 foot ceilings and probably over 200 machines. Scenery is un...real.

The restaurant/bar is also quite good. I assume it's fairly expensive, but have never had to pay

I am a member at LAC on Fullerton and Southport, let me know if you have any questions on it. Basically I just go to play tennis, and since it's a block away and the Wrightwood courts are generally jammed in the summer, it's nice to have the option. It's usually around $30/hr for a court, but if you play relatively late on a weekday (after 8PM), there's always courts open that you can go play on.

I have recently been trying out a bunch of breakfast/brunch places, and I enjoyed the following:

1. Toast - It's on Webster and Halsted, it's tiny but delicious. French toast, omelets...pretty much everything is awesome. Also, the owner is this smoking hot 40 something lady who is the pretty much the coolest person alive

2. Orange: Already been mentioned, it's pretty solid, but I too am getting sick of the orange in everything...

3. Over Easy: It's a bit north if you live in LP (around 5000 Damen), but it's a pretty good out of the way place. Their omelets are fantastic..

4. Twisted Spoke: Pretty cool venue, it's kind of a biker bar with some pretty kickin diner-esque food. It's also a bar and on saturday nights they have smut and eggs...which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

There are a bunch of others good ones that you can also check out (e.g. Yolk, Nookies, Ann Sathers)

For sushi, a place called Meiji is definitely the best in the city that I have been to. Toro in Lincoln Park is also very good. I think Mirai, Sushi Samba, and japonais are all way overpriced for the quality sushi they provide, but that's just me...

In terms of nightlife, as many have already mentioned, the Violet Hour is amazing. It's great for a date or if you just want a relaxing night with a good drink. FYI, I read in the Atlantic that they have 6 or 7 different types of ice that they use, depending on the drink. That should give you an idea how serious they are about their cocktails...

Honestly, there is no difference in the Wrigley bars you go to. People might have an affinity for one because they had a good time, but trust me, they are all the same. Barleycorn, Moes, Cubby Bear, Sluggers, etc, etc...there are plenty of young people, alcohol, and hot girls at all.

I'm not really into the club scene, but a few that I know were pretty hot recently are Le Passage, Underground, Crescendo...I've only been to Underground, and it was just ok, but people that like clubs assure me these places are legit.
