Much better imo.

I quite like it as I imagine it has something to do with insider terminology that I'm going to want to find out about — similar to what 'pushing rubber downhill' did.

Ideally the cover illustration would have some sort of connection to whatever RGPT means in your world of rafting/life. Not literally, but something that, when combined with the one paragraph text teaser on the back cover, gets the brain engaged wanting to discover what the book holds in store.

Once again PRD handled this brilliantly, i.e. a young man learning a bit about women and life through amazing white water rafting adventures in farflung locations around the globe.

Cover illustration looks great. Was it done by the same guy as the first book?

EDIT:
Hah, must be. I just did a side-by-side comparison and see the similarities in the illustration style. Plus, I like how you used the same font.

I really like that you will have two books on the same subject matter that have a similar style and feel... a collection of two! Very nice and congrats!

Yeah, same guy for both covers. We worked really hard on this one to get it right, whereas the first book cover just kind of made itself. The cover is of a photo taken in the rafting season in question so those are some of the actual characters in the book. I'm the one hanging from the top upside down like a muppet.

They look really good side by side which was the idea hence the same fonts and styling as you already noted. I got my proof copy delivered yesterday and they look even better side by side in real life. You'll notice the addition of a subtitle. That was an oversight on the first book and I think it cost me a bunch of sales.

We're going for a release next week so in a few days. I'm just reformatting a few things that I noticed when I got the proof copy. A huge, and I mean a huge shout-out to Yeti who proof-read the book for me and came up with a bunch of little errors as well as a few minor styling issues. He was awesome, so if you want to know what the book is like you can ask him.

I'm going for a paperback release first and then the kindle a few days later. Not sure if we're going to do an audiobook but if we do then I'll read it this time.

hey adsman, any tips on where to head in the Italian alps for some good fun and hiking? I decided to fly to Venice tonight, planning on renting a car and driving into the mountains for a few days

EC,

Why not head up to Val di Sole where I used to live? It's a great time of year to be there for hiking as it's really quiet. It's about a 3.5 hour drive from Venice, up the A22 autostrada to Brennero. You might get lucky and catch the very last days of one of the refuges being open:

http://www.valdisole.net/it/Elenco-Rifugi/

Failing that you could just stay in a bungalow in the campground at the rafting base in Dimaro where I used to work and explore from there. For hiking they'll be able to help you out with maps and even Alpine guides if you want:

www.raftingcenter.it

Lots of great restaurants up that way as well. My favorite is Antica Osteria in Ossana. They don't have a website but you can easily get directions when you're there. They also have some amazing hotel rooms upstairs, all boutique. A bit more pricey than the campground but that's where I would stay. You're also close to Val Piana and Val di Peio which are both located right now Ossana. If you need any help just drop me a message.

Okay everyone, the new book has hit the stands:

Run Guts Pull Cones

It's available in paperback and kindle. Huge thanks to all of you here with helping in the book's direction, particularly Ninetynine's often brutal feedback. The book is much better for the different direction in the title and the cover design.

I'm very happy with this new book. It's different from the first one in that it takes place over five months in the same location as opposed to jumping all over the world. It was hard to follow up tales of witch doctors but I actually think this book is better. It's also completely standalone from the first book.

I hope you like it but I have no doubt you will let me know either way. Thanks to El D and 2+2 for letting me keep this thread going.

i'd be interested to see a blog post (or just a forum post) regarding your experiences self-publishing and how the entire process works, as it's not something i know anything about. it's surprising to me that a few days ago you were reviewing final tweaks to the content, and now i can seemingly order the paperback from amazon and get it here immediately! after doing a few seconds googling i see that amazon now have their own self-publishing company for paperbacks, so i guess that explains the incredibly fast turnaround.

it's very nosy of me, but i'm also super duper curious to hear everything to do with margins and sales. maybe that's best to share over a beer.

Yeah, that is a good idea for a blog post. I'll do it in the next week. I must admit that when I published the first book I had no idea what I was doing. This time around it's been much easier as I know what pitfalls to avoid.

Margins are the same for any author so I'll put those in the blog post as well. Sales I'll indeed chat with you about over that beer.

Hah... you're welcome!? I was impressed that you took comments and suggestions made by myself and others and gave them actual consideration; that doesn't usually happen—sure as hell doesn't over at OOT! Instead, rather than consider whether advice being given has merit, people just become defensive and dig their heels in.

Anyway, I just ordered the book; gotta keep my Piggot book collection up to date!

Congrats on the release!

Goose,

From memory I think the Amazon shipping costs to places like Canada and Australia were nuts. Your best bet I think is the Book Depositary. It's not on their site yet but it should be within a few days.

99,

Good advice on advice. I'm going to write a blog post about that today as it lets me tie in with the book.

Everyone else, thanks for the support and for purchasing it. Just hit number 1 in its Amazon slot, (something I learned from doing the first one is to choose the book categories extremely carefully).
