Just moved from America to a city in England on my own.
It really is as simple as adsman made it sound. You arrive, find a hotel, find an apartment, find a grocery store nearby and you're about done. Initiating the move is by far the hardest part. The second hardest is making friends in the new city. It's a bit harder when you're playing online full-time as opposed to working a job interacting with people.

Re: On Changing your Life

You should not move to "a city" because they're mostly crap. London is the only city.

Leeds, not as exciting as Africa

I've started taking fitness classes at a local gym. It's probably one of the best ways to start meeting people for a lone traveller who can't play the guitar.

Haha, dont listen to this idiot. There are many cities in the UK that are far better places to live than London. Unless you mainly want to be part of an International and not UK community.

Leeds is a good place, good nightlife and a big student population. If you are not old enough to make it creepy, id defo look at getting somewhere in the student areas/near student bars as they are always lively and will be easier to meet people.

Re: On Changing your Life

Obviously it depends what you want. Certain things only London can offer, but those are only due to its size, so if that your criteria for a good city then youre kinda limited worldwide.

Saying most other cities in the UK are crap is lolclownshoes. However I dont think we should derail this thread with my proving youre an idiot.

Good advice for someone relocating, will keep that in mind the next time I move.
Any more advice for someone rebuilding their social life? It's been a while since I read this thread so it might of been discussed earlier.

Adsman:

Thoughts on the risk for Schistosomiasis rafting in Uganda?

According to this article it is around 15% (sample not that big).

Re: On Changing your Life

Chisness,

Your link doesn't work, but bilharzia is caused by a parasitic word that lives in river snails. This wasn't a problem for us at the time due to the fact that we were working in running water and the parasite needs still water to leave the snail and infect humans. However, since the river was dammed a few years ago I would assume that now this would indeed be a big problem.
