I was leaning towards engraved pilsner glasses and a round of golf the day of rehearsal (and then another round day of, but everyone on their own) but the axe idea has me thinking that something useless but unique would be fun.

This strikes me as ideal. I think weddings are overly gifty anyway, and that the concept of groomsmen gifts is dumb as hell. With LFS's suggestion, you're at least doing them a fairly meaningful favor, unless they already own tuxes.

Now you all know my name. Obviously you can pick a different kind of glass if you want to.

coolest gift i've gotten was a wine fridge (i was the best man). 18 bottle one, not crazy expensive, but sure sounds awesome (plus i really wanted one).

if you are older, and you think your groomsmen have been in a lot of weddings, they probably all have humidors, money clips and engraved beer mugs.

also, since weddings are more emotional than christmas, birthdays, etc, the cheap but thoughtful gift can go a long way. when one of my mechanical engineer friends who worked on cars and various other mechanical projects got married, he gave me a Craftsman tool bottle opener. very thoughtful gift, i definitely still use it all the time, and everyone noticed my genuine great reaction to it.

I gave everyone a nice pair of compact binoculars. I thought they were unique, useful and something you might not ordinarily buy for yourself. I really like the Leatherman idea. I just bought one of these Skeletools for myself and it friggin rocks. The blade is so razor sharp I've cut myself five times already (sober lol).

My friend got married a few months ago and gave a few of us Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii. I play it almost every day so I consider it a great gift. He gave another groomsman who is a Star Wars fan a huge Millenium Falcon since he already had GH3.

I got individual gifts for my groomsmen... one guy got a WI Badgers jersey, one got a cookbook from a cook that he really likes to watch on TV, and one got an xbox game he really wanted. They all loved the gifts and use them a lot to this day.

I feel like flasks/shot glasses/cufflinks are really cliche and just didn't want to go that route.

Yeah, not only do I have zero need for a Bluetooth headset, but it tilts me to see people using them.

the best gift I got was from my brother-in-law who got all of us wooden baseball bats with our names and the date engraved on the bat. i collect baseball memorabilia, so this fits in perfectly on the wall in my gameroom.

the worst gift i got was a drink mixer/shaker thing with a book about making mixed drinks. i mean, it might have been a good gift if i was a bitch, but 99% of the time i drink beer and if i do have a mixed drink it is definitely nothing that i need a book to learn how to make.

I went with liquor.

I got a nice beer stein thing. I drink frequently so it comes in handy.

I was best man in a wedding in June. The groom gave us personalized wall signs....something like these:

Mine is an Irish Whiskey sign, like this one.

They all looked pretty good. He also put hold'em starting hands on each of our presents as name tags. I got AA. The goofball of the group got a joker and the rules card. Guess 72 was too obvious.

I've been toying w the idea of buying my 4 groomsman smoking jackets, the black velvet type. I've seen them as expensive as 500+ but I think I foumnd cool one for 175ish.

Is this a cool gift/appropriate amount to spoend?

My best man likes the idea fwiw.

I think if you were super baller it would be cool to buy a barrel of wine from a winery and give your groomsmen each a few bottles of your personalized wine with labels and whatnot. Dunno, just came to me while reading this thread.

i was just in a friends wedding and he got us some nice robes that were monogrammed as he decided we were all 'men of leisure' and they are pretty cool

i think the above idea of smoking jackets is pretty sweet as well

men of leisure is my whole thought! awesome! i was thinking about robes too. can you tell me where he bought them? ive been having a little trouble getting the info im looking for.
11-12-2009 , 11:36 PM
not sure i think he got them somewhere locally here in kentucky, and i dont think were too much, and def less than the 175/ec you are looking to spend
11-13-2009 , 11:05 AM
Is 175 too much to spend
11-13-2009 , 01:54 PM
just depends on financial situation and how much you want to spend i guess
ive only been in 3 weddings and my gifts were: robe, cufflinks, and a leather moneyclip.

id think that probably for most people spending between 35 and 200 is common, with a lot of that falling between 50-100
11-13-2009 , 01:57 PM
How much are you looking to spend? I decided to buy my best man and groomsmen matching Nixon watches... and I bought myself the same one in a different finish. A little pricey, but it is a once in a lifetime (hopefully) event, and i wanted to give them something they could use regularly, actually like, and that would last for a long time.

Takes a little more effort, but how about autographed sports memorabilia. Something like a baseball if you all follow a team. If you have deep pockets, a jersey for the best man?
