I'm not great at categorization but I doubt all of those are "American Wild"s - I had Noel recently (and really liked it, got a bottle my next beer store trip), it's a sour Belgian dark strong ale. I really liked Oro as well though it's been a couple years since I've had it, I'm curious what I'd think of it now after getting a lot more into sours since then. As I said it was one of the first sours I tried, so I doubt you'd find it overpowering - I think a lot of their stuff is adding some sour funk to existing styles (like, iirc Bam Biere is a saison), but not making the sourness the focus of the beer, so they wind up being pretty pleasant to drink.

eta: I see Bruery Oude Tart on that bottle list, I haven't had mine yet but it has very good reviews ITT.

I've been struggling to describe my preferences for sours and this captures it perfectly.

Thanks for the recs as well.

Here's a spreadsheet of everyone's UNTAPPD so far. Maybe we can have a mod insert this into the OP or make some type of sticky so people can find it. Let's also put a note that anyone can edit the sheet and just put their own info in it when they sign up.

jared, JP's beers aren't really sour per se. They are beers that are brett infused, so they lead more towards funky notes as they age. The La Roja is the only thing that would really be considered a true sour as that's done as a Flemish Red. Hope this helps

Thanks, it does.

Not quite what I was looking for in terms of trying new things but I'll probably like it better. How does JP compare to, say Logsdon or the Commons if you had any of their Brett stuff?

Just drove down to Warren, VT for some Lawson's and they had a brand new one, the AVA IPA. Can't wait to pop one of these bad boys!

They're more similar to Logsdon than The Commons IMO, but the Brett is more pronounced. The brewery that I think is closest to them is Anchorage Brewing with how the Brett is used.

Stupid smart phone. "Dansk Mjod". 19% hopped up mead. Anyone? Think I'm gonna have to go for it next time I'm in there. I'm a sucker for a cool looking bottle and a name like Viking blod.

Just had a La Roja tonight from 2012. My wife and I didn't like it much at first, but it got more sour as it warmed. We both thought it was pretty good by the time we finished the bottle.

That said, I usually find that Flemish reds aren't sour enough for my tastes, so I probably wouldn't go for this again. Paid $14.99 for the 750ml bottle, which I think is a pretty good deal for a beer like this. (That was in 2012, however, and I think we got it in North Carolina on a road trip; not sure how much JP stuff runs here at home on the west coast.)

First Jolly Pumpkin beer we've had. Wonder how this compares to the Dissident from Deschutes.

Speaking of Deschutes, today is the first day that Ohio gets Deschutes distributed. Picked up a 6 pack of Red Chair Pale Ale and a bomber of Hop Henge IPA on my way to work this morning. Pretty excited to try both. I've only had Black Butte and Abyss before, but those are both great and I'm pretty optimistic for everything else they do.

I think you'll enjoy the opportunity to try more of their stuff. I've yet to be disappointed by a Deschutes brew. I've had Black Butte Porter, Obsidian Stout, Mirror Pond Ale and Chain Breaker White IPA. Two thumbs up for all.

yeah, from my limited amount of trying their stuff (I'm in Ohio right now, from Germany but my GF is from here, so staying here atm) it's delicious! Cant wait to find it somewhere

Mirror Pond is my go-to beer at the bar where I do trivia every week. If you ever get a chance to try a Black Butte Anniversary, it's sublime.

Yeah, Deschutes is my favorite widely available brewery. Black Butte Porter was my gateway beer and I've heard the same from others.

Chainbreaker is the only beer of theirs I've ever disliked, but I didn't like the two other white IPAs I had either.

Update: Red Chair is very good! It's not something that is overwhelmingly awesome on the first sip, but it was very pleasant to drink and left me wanting another one. (In contrast to Hopslam, which I had last night - wonderful first sips, but absolutely no desire to have another one when I was done.)

goofy,
I've got a couple bottles of the XXV anniversary in my basement, but haven't tried it yet. I'm expecting good things.

I love Flemish Reds, and Jolly Pumpkin's is pretty good, but I can get a 750ml of Rodenbach for $8-9, so I basically will never buy the JP.

I knew they were rolling out around now, but was pleasantly surprised to see them on the shelf when I stopped by on my way home from work. Picked up the Inversion IPA, it was pretty good, nothing mind-blowing but very solid.

cracked this one open tonight

this is Bourbon County "Aged in Templeton Rye whiskey barrels with fresh mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries."

compared to the Bourbon County Cherry Rye, I thought this was was much more pure berry flavored right off the bat, without being so so sweet like the Cherry Rye was. people say the Cherry Rye is much more cough syrupy, which I basically agree with, but it's also a bigger bolder flavor which gives it something this one doesn't have.

another note - this one sat at room temperature for over an hour before I poured the last out of it. that's when the biggest whiskey flavors came out. this one really shouldn't be drank right our of the fridge.

I had a glorious beer moment yesterday. I walked down to the beer store to pick up a few four packs of Founder's Imperial Stout. I was chatting with the clerk and asked him when they would be getting the 2013 Goose Island Matilda, as they had finally sold out of the 2012. March apparently. He then notifies me they just received a shipment of Bourbon County Barleywine. I replied with, "Are you ****ing serious?". BC is not distributed in Georgia because of our 14% ABV law. The guy said Goose Island's policy on BC is that if you want to sell it you have to sell all of the varieties as a package deal, but this year they made too much of the Barleywine and as a result Georgia got some of the overflow.

Oddly enough the only BC variant I've had until now was a ~5oz pour of a BC Rare when the GI guys came to the bar I work at. It was a 2008 bottle. This was last year so it had aged 5 years.

Is there anyone else in that area (or that has access to HeadyTopper) that is interested in trading?
