Had some KBS on tap last night. Dunno if this is blasphemy but while it's a solid and good beer, doesn't feel to me like it's worth going nuts to seek out. Like, if it's still on tap next week I won't make a special trip to go have some more.

Goofy,

You sound like the people in this thread: https://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...fornia.501270/

I've only had it once (last year) and really loved it, so I'm looking forward to finding some.

I agree with goofy. It's a very good beer but with the distribution that NYC gets and the barrel aged stuff coming out of local breweries there's no reason for me to actively seek it out.

It's usually on tap somewhere. Not going to go nuts trying to find it.

I did try super session from Lawson's yesterday. Not usually a huge fan of Amarillo bombs, but this was really nice. Very lemon limey, bit grassy. Strong competitor in the sub 5% hoppy beer game.

Better than sip imo.

Apparently KBS is more available this year where I am (central OH) than in prior years, but I haven't bothered trying to get it. From what I can tell, most places are selling maximum 2 12 oz bottles or 1 750ml bottle. I'd still jump on a 4-pack if I saw one.

In other news, 3 Floyds Alpha King has just been sitting on shelves here recently, which is an absolutely amazing development. Drinking one right now and it's fantastic - probably my desert island beer in terms of how many of them I can drink without getting sick of them.

Alpha king is my favorite 3F beer, and I agree it's hard to get sick of it. Had 9 of them at a bar a few weeks ago with some buddies. It just regularly sits on the shelf at Kroger these days.

Spider,

Hmm looks like a few Bay Area bevmos have it in stock for $22/4-pack, but all of them have a ton of 750s for $21...

LOL, those are some seriously negative reviews! I really like it and I had about 14oz last night, I just feel like it's not quite deserving of the BCBS sort of "zomg release party for super special beer time!" reputation that it seems to carry.

It's still on tap at LG, btw! (as of this writing)

I think I read that Ohio got a very limited amount of 750s, but I'm guessing they flew off the shelves, too. (I haven't actually been to a beer place since it was released, so I'm not sure.) I have a high tolerance for high prices, and I like KBS a lot, but I'm not sure I'd buy a 750 at $21 if I saw it on the shelf.

Portland and Seattle both got it but it has been selling out most places within a day or two.

Noobish question - why doesn't a brewery like Maine Beer Co, who seems to make a large quantity of shelf turds, make way more Lunch? Is it just to drive up the hype around it?
The Beer connoisseur thread Quote

Maine is def not a shelf turd around here, though I don't buy the bottles often. I like pretty much all their beers and usually get it when I see it on tap.

Actually, I always buy A Tiny Beautiful Something when I see it. It's amazing. MO is also fantastic. I think their style of beers (super crisp and clean) is best suited for an APA. Lunch is great, don't get me wrong, but it's not as good as the local stuff coming out of NY/MA these days imo and the price point is quite high

Yeah the only beer I don't love from them is Peeper. I haven't tried King Titus (red ale or something).

If anything, Lunch is fairly meh to me.

The main reason I don't buy a ton of Maine is the price. If I could buy a cold six pack of MO or ATBS for $10-12 bucks they would be pretty regular purchases for me. I almost always get MO if it's on tap somewhere.

Also a huge fan of Mean Old Tom.

Agree with above, Maine pales are perfect warm weather beer or when you just want something crisp/clean.

I think dinner is very overrated/hyped, like most rare releases. I'd drink pretty much any trillium/treehouse/alchemist/etc over it

Speaking of Maine, just had this guy and it's definitely in my top 5 all time... One of the few ipas that stands up to my local great notion stuff.

Yeah I couldn't get Swish when I went to Bissell but their beer is unbelievable. DIPA wise I had Reciprocal from them and its one of my favorite NE style IPAs ever. Baby Genius also is neck and neck with TH Eureka for the GOAT 4% beer.

I suspect the issue with Lunch is getting raw materials and/or profit margin is lower on Lunch than other beers. just guessing.

I haven't bought any MBC in at least a year, the rent is too damn high.

Mass Rising just came out from Jack's Abby and I bought a bunch. I don't like it as much as Kiwi Rising but it's another great double IPL from them at a great price ($3 / 16 ounce can).

Maine Brewing makes solid stuff just not gonna by it for that price point as others have stated. I think it's called their "Hop Program" or something where their beers are labeled "Beer 1. Beer 2. Etc..." is solid to try whenever I can.

Recently in my area been seeing a lot more Singlecut out of NYC. Their beers are homerun or miss for me. Currently enjoying a barrel aged Rye Whiskey '17 Imperial Stout. Smells like a Canadian whiskey but tastes nice and chocolatey and vanillaey. Should have opened after dinner

Any east coast people know anything about Kent Falls Brewing (in CT)? The place we get beer from for work says we can buy some and it's rare but I haven't heard of them.

I've had a few of their farmhouse type beers. Pretty good stuff. Their ipas have a good rep just haven't had a chance yet. Well that's not true, one was on tap last night but I opted for Hill Farmstead Society & Solitude #5, which was bangin.

One of the larger stores around me carries a ton of Kent Falls all the time and I've tried just about all of them. As KC says their farmhouse style beers are all pretty good, nothing remarkable, solid for the low abv though. They are definitely not "rare" so don't pay an arm and leg for them though they may be "rare" to your region.

Agreed on all of the crisp/clean comments on Maine, but especially on the price point. They're just too pricey against the competition now.

I went to the NYC beer week event with Maine last year with one of the founders and he said that they were having difficulty with their hop contracts, re: Lunch. He also said they had 0 interest in canning, which makes me believe they're enjoying those margins on the bottles.

I'lll buy it on tap, pretty much never on bottle. Another One is great.

Apparently Safeco Field will have a barrel-aged and imperial beer station this season. It's going to be rotating, but KBS is on the list. $10 for a 12-ounce pour, which is an insanely good price for that level of beer at a sporting event.

Kent Falls is quite popular in CT. They do good, if not sometimes inconsistent farmhouse style beers. I am a big fan of them and what they attempt to do, but I would say that much of their stuff is one note. Many of their 'farmhouse' beers taste alike and the overwhelming character of their house farmhouse yeast persists in most of their stuff. If you like that taste (which I do), then you'll like most of their offerings. If you don't, it's probably not worth spending the money on. Their hoppy stuff is all over the board. Some is great, while others completely miss for me. I'd also say >50% of their hoppy beers have bretty characteristics as well.
