Dui Cochi is great, I have a few bottles of that left.

I might be susceptible to some hype but I've got The Streets as one of the best beers I've ever had. Had two tonight then a Heady Topper to make sure I wasn't insane and it was every bit as drinkable. Had a ridiculous amount of flavor and an interestingly above average amount of carbonation making it extremely smooth but with like no downside. I would compare it with Crusher if Crusher had way more juice/complexity and didn't feel oppressively boozy. Bought two 4 packs yesterday and kinda regretting not buying another.

Hm, I find crusher overly sweet and unbalanced. I think it's the worst of the 3 by a bit, but plenty of people love it so 🤔.

Pretty much any trillium >>> alchemist for me though.

Reminder that if you want to pay $40/bottle + tax + shipping (within California) for a pretty delicious BA imperial stout w/ chocolate and vanilla - the Chocolate Rain public sale is Friday at 10am!

This was the first year I've managed to sneak through the inevitable ETix server crashes, and I'm pretty excited.

There's a bunch of Bruery stuff near me marked down by 1/3-1/2 due to age. Jardinier, some hoppy sour ale, I think something called Beret... anything I should look out for particularly? I never buy Bruery because of the price.

I've actually not tried any of the ones you named, I'm less big on the sour ales these days due to a growing inability to digest them well as I've aged more. I can only handle them in smaller doses now.

I think Jardinier is an entry-level light Belgian pale, Beret is a wild-fermented oak-aged witbier with raspberries.

I've had Beret once and thought it was really good. I've got another in my fridge I plan on opening soon. The one that's been calling out to me recently is So Happens It's Tuesday, but I don't exactly need another big bottle of high ABV stout in the basement. (Which doesn't mean I won't buy it.)

I like S.H.i.T. (see what they did there?) a lot.

Beret is basically Bottleworks XII, which is potentially my favorite Bruery sour ever made. Its not quite as good as I remembered it as Bottleworks XII, but still great. I'd get that one and ignore the others.

Also, JL, what did you give away for your part of the beer swap?

I sent to a guy in CT:

Henhouse IPA
Kooks DIPA
Pliny the Elder
Track 7 Left Eye Right Eye
Uinta Hop Nosh IPA
Kern River Just Outstanding IPA

I have a preference for cans because I find them easier to ship (for peace of mind at least, ultimately it's about the same).

And I added a Burton Baton even though it's not west coast because I love it and have found most people have never had it.

Would love to try that 8 year old Mirror Mirror. Have had 3-4 year vintages that were fantastic.

’09 Saison Dupont Avec Le Bon Veux ($12.99/750ml) would be an awesome buy too. Don't think I've had one that old, but it's a fabulous beer and it's been good with several years on it as well.

I'd skip the czar probably, I mean if they insist everything is aged in a cellar at 55 degrees, then maybe worth a roll of the dice, but I've had a few of those and they range from very good to oxidized to soy sauce at that age.

On the fresh list I notice Blackberry Farms. How many here have tried them? I had their rye saison and it was excellent. Can't wait to try more of their stuff, but I've mostly been on a beer buying hiatus while I work through the cellar (too many stouts that need drinking soon).

It's an event they're having. They're opening and pouring all the bottles listed festival style. Maximum 40 people, tickets are $25 each. So the bottles aren't for sale - I think the prices are listed are just for reference.

Yeah, quickly looking at the bottles you received, most tend to be super shelf turds/not heavily regarded. That said, nugget nectar is delicious. Also, sometimes I guess its nice to try beers you've never had before.

Yeah JL you kinda got hosed.

I love Finestkind, think it's one of the better shelf ipas, but it's also distro'd all over. I know CA gets it.

And Hoponius Union is quite good but also super common here.

No true NE style IPAs is the killer. And yeah, that's about a $20-$25 shelf haul at an average bottle shop that's easy to grab anytime.

Though all the beer nerds say Pliny is basically a shelf turd these days (never had it)

Yeah it's fine, the guidelines were $30+ after shipping, and shipping a 6'er across the country is going to cost $15-$20 anyway. Wasn't expecting anything amazing, just a fun exchange to do. It's just a "i like beer" swap, prob not worthy of the beer connoisseurs.

I usually try to ship local stuff + one nicer level beer, like a decent alesmith or firestone or the pliny in this case.

Pliny is easy enough to get in SF and I think its a great beer, just slightly too bitter for me. I'd definitely prefer to have easy access to heady topper than pliny though.

fair enough.

ma bros, I posted about it before, but I really think fort hill's Fresh Pick IPA is about as good as an IPA you can get locally at a packy. Loving this.

Also tried their DIPA, Jigsaw Jazz, which is pretty high abv (9.3%), loaded with citra. It's quite tasty, but nothing crazy compared to some other good local options.

Packy also had Alesmith speedway, so now I'm loaded watching ncaa.

Following up on this (and I'm not sure if there's a point since no one else itt is likely to try it) but what I meant was that it seems like it was everything Crusher was trying to be. I agree that Crusher is a solid dropoff from HT and FB. I should also say that I'm a Dogfish 90 minute fan so I guess I'm not as averse to some sugar as a lot of people are and that does come through here.

On a side note just had some Fresh Pick and it is confirmed awesome.

Good buddy of mine invited me over because he wanted to open some bottles this afternoon he had gotten recently. I happily obliged him.

Fuzzy Baby Ducks from NEBCO. I've had this many many times before but first time they canned it this week. The beer is as always awesome. Picture on the can is great. Super smooth and flavorful for a low abv IPA (I believe it's about 6%). Proves you don't need to make a juice bomb at 9% to have a great IPA.

Allagash Coolship la Mure. Everything perfect about Allagash's Coolship beers in this guy. Sour without being overly funky or tart. Light blackberries. Would drink again.

Allagash Coolship Claremont. Everything not perfect about Allagash's Coolship beers. Way too much Bourbonish taste for a sour for my liking. Kinda thin and not really tasty or drinkable. First ever miss for a Coolship for me.

Cantillon Fou 2016. My buddy just got the basket from Belgium so we decided to test it out. It works.

If you've never had this beer before and you are a beer drinker, please find a way to get a bottle.

Other things we had but I didn't grab pictures of:
Trillbomb from Trillium
When we opened the growler the room immediately smelled like we had just walked into a DD for some coffee. I thought it had some great mouth, heavy feel you look for in a strong stout but was lacking in the coffee taste as compared to the smell. Didn't find out it was 11% until after I finished my share. Well hidden alcohol

3F Oude Gueuze
Funkiest beer I can recall having. If you're not well seasoned in sours I would recommend staying away from this. I however liked the tastes of oak, earth, and grass. Super interesting. Times like these I wish I was a more creative person for descriptions but you can check out beeradvocate for those.

C'mon now cooler, try a little harder, something like "it's as if you stumble upon a dirty baby diaper sitting on a pile of hay in an open meadow, combined with a touch of vomit and the slight smell of napalm. 4.5/5 stars."

Nice reviews!

I recently tried Mach-Limit (Cab Sauv) by Black Project here in Denver, which I imagine is very similar to Turo http://www.blackprojectbeer.com/mach-limit/

The Mach Limit had very light carbonation (not much at all) and I drank it chilled, but it was by far the most wine forward "beer" I've ever tasted. Clocked in at almost 11% abv I believe. Sangria-like is an accurate description. I loved it, but I don't think it's entirely accurate to say I was drinking a beer. I still have a bottle of Supercruise Cab Sauv that's made with half the grapes, which I've heard is also grape forward but Mach-Limit (and I imagine Turo) is another category altogether.

Definitely let us know what you think goofy!
