I had a Blue Hawaiian Hef at the Yard House in Newport but I have not been able to find it any where else, cant even find anything on the internet about it. If anybody knows where I could get some it would be greatly appreciated.

Bring on the hate but Ive always enjoyed Milwaukee's Best Ice. When I'm in Springfield Missouri I do enjoy going to Springfield Brewing Company (http://www.springfieldbrewingco.com) and drinking their Mueller Wheat. I'm also 29.

Another option do drink it, is to mix it half and half with Guiness. This is called a Black and Tan, and it is also very good. I do very much enjoy Guiness, and am looking to try more stouts, but have not experienced mixing Black and Tans with other Stouts.

If you have never tried cider, or have only tried Strongbow, I suggest you try a pint of Magners and see what you think.

Magners is sugary filth.

Thatchers gold will blow your mind.

Westmalle Trappist Dubbel is my personal favorite, worth trying if you like dark beers.

Also Duvel, Kwak (in the special glass) and Leffe I'm fond off.

Boont Amber Ale, brewed in Boonville, CA (it exists!) has been my new favorite beer for the last year. Anderson Valley Brewing Co. makes some good beers, but I don't know if they distribute outside of NorCal.

And I recently spent a week in Ireland, and brought a Guinness back for a taste test. It does taste better over there (still delicious irregardless!).

i had the westmalle dubbel in belgium when i was backpacking through europe and it instantly became one of my all-time favorites. i also really liked the leffe bruin (but not the blond so much) and i like duvel. never got to try kwak, but that's on my list.

anyone in the sf bay area know where i can find a good selection of belgium beers? most grocery stores, if they have any, just have duvel and chimay (i really like chimay, both the red and blue). i can try bevmo, i guess.

given that i like all of the beers i just said, does anyone have any other recommendations?

for those of u out there that like pumpkin beers, you should really try Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. it is from a craft brewery in St. Louis and is only sold in this area afaik. ive only had a few pumpkin beers and most were garbage at best. this one was absolutely amazing tho. 8% ABV tho u honestly cant even tell.

here is a link to buy it. obv expensive to have shipped so maybe look around and see if there is anything else u want to add to ur order.

Think I will do a build your own 6 pack at World Market to try some different beers. Any suggestions? I haven't had hardly any of the good microbreweries, usually drink whatever they have at Wal-Mart, grocery store, etc. I was thinking some Rogue, Stone IPA, Storm King Stout, Duvel, Old Rasputin, La Fin Du Monde, Chimay or whatever they have.

Lucid,

i havent had a schlafly pumpkin this year yet, but i did pick up a 6pack of the o'fallon pumpkins and they are pretty solid this year. I think the schlafly pumpkin 2 years ago was better than last years but ill def be picking some of that up too.

I drink this pretty frequently it's really good. Really dark but it's a pretty light beer.

blah, just had some the day after i made this post. i should have not made the post til after i had it i guess rather than making an anticipatory post. it is wayyyy overly flavored w/ nutmeg and just doesnt match up to last years which i thought was great.

i did however however think the o'fallon was really good. the overall flavor could have been a little stronger but all flavors were pretty even and the pumpkin was slightly stronger than the rest. the flavors were also really well balanced throughout the whole beer from the first drink to the last which was kind of a problem w/ schlafly last year from what i remember. looks like i'll be drinking o'fallon this fall as opposed to schlafly.

thats a shame, i kinda like the variance from year to year, but only when they get better :P

I had the O'fallon one with some pork tenderloin and sweet potato fries last night, and it felt like fall.

Any recommendations for a good book on the history/science of brewing beer? Also, same for other alcohols. Thanks!

I'll tout this one. Big Swell Pale Ale from the Maui brewing co. Brewed in Hawaii so you prolly won't believe me, but it's awesome stuff; hoppy, rich smooth pale ale. My go to beer. Not readily available on the mainland except for maybe some places in California.

Their Abbey Ale is top notch stuff too.

wow, i used to love those schafly pumpkin beers when i was living in stl. sucks to hear that it's not as good this year. was excited to buy some when the link was posted; w/e, i'll probably do it anyway.

been enjoying delirium lately. nothing new, i know, but lol, pink elephants.

tannen, just get the O'Fallon pumpkin beer thru the same website. had that and its really solid this year and much better than schlafly.

thanks for the rec. that one has a lower abv, yeah? part of the reason i liked the schlafly beers so much was that they were like 8% abv. maybe i'll just get some of both.
The Beer connoisseur thread Quote

yea, its lower but its still pretty strong by american beer standards at 5.5%. most of schlafly's beers arent that high either. i drank their summer lager a bunch this summer and its only around 5.5% itself. i tried another bottle again when not compared directly to another pumpkin beer and while it was slightly better it still just isnt that great.

black cherry = half guinness + half sam adams cherry wheat, made in same fashion as black and tan. can substitute sam adams black lager for guinness.

Interesting...this sounds like it might be pretty good.

I can't stand cherry wheat beers generally (but somehow love blueberry wheats :-\).
