Only the Old Ale was made by someone called Upright from Oregon. Didn't realize that until after I had left. We'll see if it's any good, but damn, I wouldn't have spent $14 on a 750/22 from an unknown, such a gamble!

All Day!!! So good.
Upright makes great beer imo.

Just had my first Evil Twin beer - Molotov Lite. Good, not stellar. The can was 5 weeks old, so maybe it would be more impressive fresher.

I think there must be a lot of simcoe in this beer, which I don't tend to love. I seem to have an aversion to simcoe forward brews. There's just a weird flavor in there. I'd try it again though.

Imperial Biscotti Break is in the fridge for tomorrow.

So I took a vacation to the island of Palau and found out they have a local brewery, Red Rooster. They had on tap a stout, Amber, English ale, wheat and light. Tried them all except the light and was pleasantly surprised. They were all solid, solid brews, but pretty amazing considering the location.

My fav was the Amber, very similar to Blazing World in that it was more hoppy and IPA-like.

If you don't like that beer, you're a bad person, and you should feel bad.

Not the most subtle of beers, but just really tasty.

Hope you have people to split it with, though, as I find a great serving size to be in the 4-6oz territory.

Sounds like I lucked out, thanks!

Not sure if I should age that beer or not though. A lot of the poor feedback is from that beer fresh, and a lot of the really high praise is from older bottles. Maybe I'll sit on it for a year or two... not sure.

Spotted in the merchandise pavilion at Chambers Bay ... Your 2015 U.S. Open commemorative growler! Only ... EIGHTY-FIVE DOLLARS. (Pretty cool, actually, but give me a break.)

brewdog is the best beer imo

I live pretty local to one and have tried pretty much everything they have on draft plus all the guest draft.

My go to is 5AM Saint, but I will always have to get hardcore IPA, Russian Imperial Stout or Dog C if they are available on draft.

Found a decent beer bar in ****ty fall river. Belfast bay stone crab ipa is quite solid. Assuming this is from Maine. I'd never heard of it.

Friend showed up a little while ago with a very large quantity of Trillium and Tree House beers to repay me for a beer fest ticket I gave him since I wasn't going to be able to make it. Splitting a bottle of Trillium's Double Dry Hopped Congress Street and a growler of Tree House's Very Green before heading out for the night.

I've had Trillium's regular Congress Street a bunch and think it's pretty much a perfect New England IPA, but this DDH version is almost absurd. Looks almost exactly like pineapple juice in the glass, turbid to the point of letting through absolutely no light. One of the best smelling beers I can remember, can smell it from a foot away. Taste is very tropical, mango, orange, pinapples, bubblegum. Slightly bitter finish. Totally awesome.

The Very Green is a double IPA version of my favorite Tree House brew, Green. Less tropical, more stone fruit forward. Pours like a more tradition double IPA, very hazy, but darker reddish orange with a head that disappears pretty fast. Softer in every aspect to the Congress Street, with very little bitterness. Peach sherbet. Really hope I don't have to wait till their next anniversary to get more of this.

Brewdog is increasingly widely criticised by people who like craft beer, as it seems hell-bent on destroying the market. Some of their beers are decent enough but they're by no means the best beer the UK has to offer.

Any of you New England dudes who have access to anything from VT, Treehouse, Trillium, Night Owl, or any other elite IPAs coming out of that region recently, and who like sours, NY IPAs, or any of my immense cellar shoot me a pm . Looking to lessen my cellar so I might have some very advantageous offers.

perhaps all of this is correct, but their bar is right on my doorstep, draft stuff is affordable, (pricey but still cheap compared to many 'better' alternatives that people cite), and it tastes nice.

What would you suggest is better within the UK that I don't have to buy online and I don't have to take out a second mortgage to enjoy?

Affordable? You presumably don't live near one of the London ones then. Where are you and what do they charge, out of interest?

And as for the bigger question, that depends where you are based, I guess.

Based in Birmingham, it's ~ £4 a pint on draft (bottles can be ridiculous prices so I just stick to what's on draft).

Sure it's pricey compared to many places, but in surrounding bars it can easily cost more than £4 for a carlsberg or peroni.

Yeah for some reason Peroni is seen as a premium beer.

It was the most expensive beer (apart from Leffe) that we sold on tap at a pub that I worked for in London. ₤4.60 a pint.

Yeah I went to Brewdog's bar in Edinburgh and I thought the beers that they had on draft were good value and of course tasty as hell.

Samplings from last night:

Belfast Bay Stone Crab IPA: never heard of it. Didn't blow me away but was crisp and refreshing. Would drink again.

Then did a flight of 7oz samples of:
Magic Hat Electric Peel Grapefruit IPA: totally unremarkable and found it very flat. Not very good.

Boulevard Double IPA: had some other name.. Crossroads maybe? Anyway, pretty good, but a bit on the sweet and malty side. This might be a personal thing though. For example, I typically enjoy southern tier 2x ipa, but I had one recently and found it maltier than my liking. Guess this is what happens when you're on a steady diet of sculpin.

Troegs Java Head Stout: very tasty. Prominent coffee, chocolate, and milky flavors. Mouthfeel very silky, almost too much.

Then had a couple of Brewmaster Jack Imperial IPAs on tap. This is a phenomenal beer. Very drinkable for an 8.5%. Bitter, crisp, and not too damn sweet.

Thus place also had Wormtown Be Hoppy on tap but it was kicked already.

Then I went to a dive bar and had 3 buds and now have a hangover and I'm gonna cool it with drinking for a bit.

yeah, brewdog's pretty hugely overhyped at this stage. their beers are good but nothing outstanding. also bizarre why biscuits would drink there when there's two clearly superior choices within a five minute walk of it, and the people behind the euston/sheffield/piccadilly tap are also moving in to the area soon

I may have misunderstood but I don't think that's what he was saying.

Me too. Although some of its prices can be a surprise if you don't ask first.

Yeah, this too. Pretty sure he was suggesting there are a couple of better places to drink beer nearby.

Hopefully he'll explain where he meant, because I have to spend two days in Birmingham this week for work.

Any of you Londoners been to the Pelt Trader? I've been enjoying that recently.
