Went to Jack's Abby with some coworkers after work today. Prob the best brewery spot in Mass in terms of the space. Great food, lots of room, lots of great beers on tap. Their Saxony Lager hit the spot today (it was mid 90s today).

Jack's Abby also has a new spin-off brewery called Springdale... experimental ale program. Their beer names are lol dumb but had a great DIPA called Clerical Error that wasn't too high abv (7.7%), had Nelson and Mosaic. Real nice. My buddy had another ipa from them. I had a sip of it, it was outstanding.

Checked out the springdale space right next door when we left. Younger hipper crowd, pinball machines and skeeball, trivia was gong on. Picked up some cans. Had their wit called Pearly just now. Great beer.

Another awesome brewery making standing in lines seem pointless.

Trying another of their IPAs, But I Digress. Amarillo, Simcoe, Citra. Very, very good. But maltier than the trend these days, maybe some Caramel malts, but the hop profile is great. Grassy, earthy, bit weedy, and citrus.

Really well done.

of what I've had of those, the highlights are Mexicake and Trolltunga. Arzache really disappointed me for an Omnipollo, and Light Bulb and Headband are far from some of the better Verdants unfortunately. Hell of a haul though, there must be going on £100 in the stout/sours alone!

this is a local beer but anyone in the minnepolis area can find it pretty easily. i had a can last night and while it's a bit strange i could see myself slamming these on a hot day on the golf course or at the lake. it's a beer that's supposed to mimic a gin and tonic:

Crazy Aunt is an ale brewed with juniper, coriander, lime juice, and tonic water. We’ve pushed the limits with this beer and brewed it to taste just like a gin & tonic

i definitely got the tonic and lime but it was a little light on gin notes, i'm wondering if it would have been better with a more hop forward (something herbal and piney) base beer to stand up to the extra ingredients, definitely worth a try though if you see it

Finally pulled the trigger on some M-43 by Old Nation. MI brewery and this is the first beer I've heard about from them and it's all been rave reviews. It's a NE style IPA and damn, it's unlike anything I've ever had and it's delicious. $14.99 for four 16 oz cans.

brewing beer to taste like gin and tonic sounds like a fun idea, but begs the question of...why not just can a gin and tonic.

El d is the target? Surprised Alesmith cans cost the same there as they do here.

Really don't know why they put huge stouts in huge cans, but the pricing on the evil twin stouts is at least amazing. Alesmith the price hasn't really shifted and you're still stuck with a lot of a 10+% beer.

Some news: The Bruery announced they sold a majority stake to an east coast private equity firm. They were like "this will help us expand and grow and blah blah" but there's a lot of speculation in the BA thread that they're just a middleman to eventually sell to InBev or another giant for a profit down the line.

Random question: I'm in Stockholm for a few days, any cool beer stuff here? Just came from Amsterdam where there was a great beer bar with a solid selection around the corner, and we visited Brouwerij 't Ij (probably spelled wrong) which had some good stuff, both American and Belgian styles.

Two places you should definitely visit:

Akkurat. They have an amazing selection of vintage bottles and a lot of great stuff on tap as well (always at least one Cantillon). Their selection covers pretty much everything but they specialize in lambics. The pub itself has a British feel to it.

Omnipollo's hatt. Has a steady rotation of great stuff on tap, meaning I haven't tried a lot of what's currently on. Noa Pecan Mudcake is a great staple stout of theirs and Stigberget's IPAs are are always worth checking out. The place itself is small and will usually get crowded in the afternoon.

They're both located in Södermalm (southern district), as well as the majority of good Stockholm beer bars. So take the subway to Slussen and explore from there.

Edit: I'd also recommend Pressklubben (located close to the central station) and Mikkeller Bar.

Yeah, never been but Akkurat seems like the obvious answer based on everything I've read. I don't think I ever want to know how much I might spend there.

On a related point, when KBS came out this year, I was all, "I'm not going to try to chase the 12 oz bottles, and no way I'd buy a 750 for $20 or whatever". And I did not end up buying any 12 oz bottles (because I didn't see any). But I was at Penn State last week and happened to stop by a bottle shop that had the 750ml bottles for $23. Did I buy one? Of course I did.

there are still random 4 packs on shelves in Indy, which has not been the case in past years. $24/4pack is good value imo.

Yeah, me too. Couldn't resist something that combined an Islay distillery with Cloudwater. Chances are that I'll reach the juice IPA pretty quickly and the other two not so fast, but who knows.

I really thought I'd love Trolltunga but it didn't quite do it for me. Very sharp/lime and not so much gooseberry, but I'm going to get another one and see if it was a bad bottle. As for Verdant I had a Roy I Want A Hilux recently and liked it a lot, so figured I'd give the rest of the brewery a shot. I've heard v good things about Mexicake. Also, if you've not tried Cloudwater's Equanot IPA then do so. It's not one of their showstealing big hitters (like the DIPA v series or the NW DIPA Citra) but I've had several cans now and I think it's a pretty great go-to IPA. Equanot/Equinox makes a nice change from Citra etc imo.

Thanks for the tips! We were walking around Södermalm this afternoon so we just stopped by Omnipollos briefly (Akkurat too but it was closed for a couple hours) and tried the rum BA imperial stout w marshmallows - tasted quite boozy for 11% but had a nice flavor to it. We'll probably head back to one or both later after eating.

Doing my bachelor weekend in Portland. Have had all the beers from up there but never been. Report back after your trip.

FYI - Indiana City Brewery's 4th Anniversary is this Saturday. Releasing a couple BBA Stouts and a new NEIPA.

Saw that. No chance they are getting me to pay $23/4 pack for their NE style IPA when there last one was a complete joke. I may grab the BA stout if it gets good reviews.

I didn't have the last one. No good eh? That's disappointing. Hopefully #2 turns out better.

yeah, it was called Boom Juice. I took a flier at $20/4pack since it said it was "NE Style", "unfiltered", DDH, etc. It wasn't hazy at all, not juicy, in fact pretty bitter. still probably have 1 or 2 in the back of my fridge.

Did you have Fruity Nuggets from 450 North recently? That was fantastic. It wasn't NE style, but was DDH citra/mosaic/el dorado. Just a super crushable IPA.

This one is called Boom Juice #2 so my expectations are low.... I haven't had a thing from 450 North. I'll be sure to pick some up next time I go to the liquor store.
