spider,

If you haven't tossed it already, keep the bottle that broke, the brewery should want it back. At the very least send them an email with the picture.

Pretty cool, I've been saying they make the best stuff for a while, not that it's objective or anything but happy for them.

Double stack also won.

Had several different beers from Paradox Brewing in CO this weekend. All were great. The #43 was outstanding. Will definitely purchase again if I see different ones on the shelf.

Double stack smells amazing but I wouldn't want to drink more than 2-3 oz. Too sweet and overpowering with maple for me.

had a couple of beers from breweries I've been looking to try this past weekend. I was down around New Haven, CT for a Chinese New Year celebration. I'd never tried any New England Brewing stuff, considered stopping in on the way to pick some up for the small gathering, but they didn't have any cans according to twitter so I didn't bother. But, random packy where I was just planning on grabbing some High Life had 6packs of their Sea Hag IPA.

Overall impression: solid but really nothing special. Pleased to enjoy it, but doesn't really stand out from plenty of good shelf IPAs.

Buddy from NY, though, brought some Cigar City Jai Alai. By the time I tried it that night, I had already had the Sea Hag, so taste was probably muted. But I'm enjoying one I took home now. This is awesome. Pretty classic west coast IPA. The restrained use of caramel malts works perfectly. Quite bitter, and it lingers. Piney, grapefruit, DANK.. like I said, classic west coast.

It's 7.5%, which is a bit steep for a single IPA, and that might be the only reason this wouldn't be a daily drinker if it were available regularly. Maybe it's just because it's a departure from the steady stream of New England-style IPAs, but this is one of the best single IPAs I've had in recent memory. Feel pretty comfortable calling this better than most of the stuff in the Trillium arsenal, if not all. The only hop bomb I liked more in recent memory is TH's Super Sap, which is a DIPA, also with a big west coast flavor profile. Maybe that's just the phase I'm in.

finally got my hands on some Lagunitas High Westified. amazing, especially for the price. I think it would hold up fairly well against BCBCS tasted blind. I'm getting as much as I can.

KC, NEBCO makes great beer. I often stop in to their brewery to fill up growlers. Sea Hag is my go to IPA when I'm not sure what I want to grab a six pack of on a Friday afternoon. Solid brew for $10ish/6 pack.

Their G-Bot, formerly Ghandi Bot, is very good and highly sought after around here. So is their Fuzzy Baby Ducks. Their beer is obviously not as "juice bomby" as TH but I'm not sure why they haven't picked up more recognition. I believe their head brewer just left (I could be thinking of another place so don't quote me) so it should be interesting to see what happens.

yeah i've heard great things about g-bot and ducks. I knew sea hag wasn't their most highly regarded beer going in. I'm not disappointed or anything. it's solid for sure and good point about the price. But side by side with Jai Alai it's a fair step down.

Speaking of price, I think I might be out-hipstering the hipster and say 12oz can > tall boys.

Their old head brewer left to start his own shop, Counterweight Brewing. It should be opening in the next couple of months, complete with a coolship viewable from the taproom. I'm guessing it'll be the best new brewery to open up this year in the New England area.

Also, anyone stopping by New Haven, I opened a beer bar in New Haven recently, so if you're in the area give me a holler and come say hi.

Also, as far as New England Brewing Co, imo Supernaut (and super supernaut)>Locust Reign>Fuzzy Baby Ducks>Sea Hag>Coriolis>G Bot

They apparently had a ton of consistency issues early on, and I still see murmurs about it here and there, but I've had mostly excellent wild stuff from them. The upside down pineapple has been my favorite. I visited there on the way back from a biking trip and had a few samplers, everything was just really good, so I'm in the same boat as you.

I haven't had a BCBCS this year, but that's quite a compliment it seems. I had a Westified the other night, a friend gave it to me, I liked it, but if I didn't know the extremely affordable nature of the beer I don't think I would've thought twice about it.

Team budget stouts,

Drinking a xocoveza. Just the regular version. It's been said many times ITT already, but this is such a good beer!

Any vegas locals been to tacos + beer on Paradise? Went on tuesday for first time.
They had 2 prairie artisian ales on draft, jolly pumpkin, bruery, and a kreik, we were pretty impressed.
I've been out of town a ton so haven't been to ace and ales, atomic, and the other usual craft haunts lately - but I don't recall seeing any of this stuff anywhere else last year.

So I've been really liking the Hop Nosh (Tangerine IPA) lately from Uinta, but by grocery has had six packs of VooDoo Ranger IPA from New Belgium on sale for $9 so I had to try it. I've gotta say, its pretty tasty. I'm currently polishing off my third and then calling it a night. It's good stuff.

Tonight I had another case of reverse drain pour - I opened a beer I thought I wouldn't like, but I ended up really enjoying it (and drinking more than I expected):

Quote:
A special blend of our bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with our bourbon barrel aged sour stout, plus an addition of juicy blueberries, Blue BBLs finishes with incredibly vinous tones. The acidity from the sour stout matches perfectly with the sweet malt character of the imperial stout and the fruity tannins from the berries round everything together. Notes of red wine, blueberry skins, toffee and roasted oak. A fine addition to the line up of Hoarders Society exclusive ales.
I guess this falls in the same category as Founders Lizard of Koz - both are kind of barrel-aged stouts with blueberry. This one is less cloying, and it's gone down much easier. I'm going to end the night having finished about 3/4 of the bottle, which was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than I expected. (got a little buzzed and placed an ad hoc order from a Belgian shop. Oops.)

Good stuff.

Have yet to see Sip in any MA stores. I have tried a few other beers recently, though I've had a bit of a cold. Only 2 have stood out to me.

Lord Hobo Glorious Galaxy Pale Ale, 6.5% - not one of the standouts. Perfectly OK and has the distinctive galaxy flavor, but this is less well executed than Trillium's galaxy fort point and Proclamation's Derivative: Galaxy (my fave of all these similar offerings).

Night Shift Bennington, Oatmeal stout with cocoa and maple. Really, really solid. Hits all the notes you'd expect, but of spice and dry finish. Well done.

Fort Hill Brewing Fresh Pick IPA: Out of western Mass. Picked up a 6pack on a whim. Glad I did. Yes, it's another unfiltered neipa, with standard new age hop bill (Simcoe, Citra, and mosaic), so it's nothing revolutionary, but it's just solid and tasty. Not really a juice bomb. Good amount of kick to it and plenty bitter.
