Fat Matt's is delicious. When I go I usually get a family sized meal (pork, ribs, large beans, large stew) all for myself and eat it over the course of a few days.

I think the Elbow Room pizza off of Pharr Rd is the best pizza in the ATL. I eat a lot of pizza from different restaurants and theirs is truly a notch above everything else imo.

I also like the 5 Seasons, their scotch ale is very good. The food there is also very good but it's been a while since I've been there.

RIP El Bar.

I'll have to try MJQ soon.

on a scale of 1-10...10 being the most awesome, 1 being dominos, and 5 being felini's, where does it rank?

I'm a pizza lover too and I've never heard of this joint.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned FFK and Chair's place, best place in Atlanta for drinking and hanging out.

It's about an 8 on your scale.

It's something to do with the cheese and sauce they use. It's a little bit different than the others and the crust is the perfect thickness, somewhere between thin and regular crust, and slightly crispy.

It's right across the street from the Atlanta Fish Market.

Weird I opened this thread just because I drove through Atlanta today, and I was gonna ask about it.

Was down in Panama City for Spring Break, driving back to PA i knew I had to have some southern BBQ. I looked up some places on my IPhone and come upon Fat Matts. What I wouldnt give to have one in Pennsylvania.

Re: Atlanta: Your favorite things to do or places to go

I was just in Atlanta for a wedding. Pretty fun town. Did the tornados hit anyone here? We lucked out and went to Savannah that night for the St. Patrick's Day festival, which was pretty awesome btw.

My favorite area in Atlanta (at least out of the small number of areas we went to) was definitely Little Five Points. Vortex was very cool. That area seemed to have a lot of character...fun place.

The Coke museum was okay I guess, if only because of the tasting thing at the end. The mini-ride with the 3D goggles and moving chairs and everything was kinda fun too.

On the last night the girl I was with and I went to the Pink Pony. I'm not really a strip club expert but I can't imagine strip clubs getting much better than the Pink Pony. It was packed on a Sunday night. Pretty cool spot.

Best pizza in town is Giorgios on Collier road right off of Howell Mill. Been there for 20 years, authentic New York style, blows Fellinis away.

Vortex pimento cheeseburger, mmmmmmmmmmmm...

Keyser,
sounds like you hit up the best spots. A burger at the Vortex and a night at the Pony, doesn't get much better than that.

I disagree... I prefer Fellini's on any dish. Used to get free beer on Thursdays though at Giorgio's with the Sig Eps which was awesome.

Also.... as evidenced by my past Friday night.. EL BAR IS NOT CLOSED! I don't know what the deal is but it was still open, great music, nothing changed except due to the tornadoes it wasn't as crowded.

A condo my sister in law almost bought got it's roof blown off though. Scary ish.

And, you guys need to check the Atlanta thread in OOT! Get together on the weekend of the 28th - 29th... I need more input and interest to make sure it happens!

Best food is right by MJQ, Marco's Pita. It was used in the Beef movie too. But best falafel / gyro / whatever in atlanta. He makes it all himself. you just gotta make sure its open before you get there. Sometimes its closed at 12:30pm on a tuesday for no reason. well, its kinda obv once you check out the place.

Best pizza is Dagwoods Pizza & Subs, on spaulding and holcomb bridge, its borderline norcross but worth the drive.

other great atlanta places

Oxford Comics.
Dad's Garage Theater. They do improv and stuff too.
99 ranch market. on buford. next to mings bbq. get a whole bbq duck for like $12.

as far as strip clubs go....Motley Crue said "Rocking in Atlanta at Tattletails" just sayin.... its always packed there and the shot girl brings down the house. worth it

Does it still have the pool tables in the back? I used to enjoy that because you could get away from the 'hustle' but still check the talent, then make the sojourn up to the stage if you wished.

They used to have two goth chicks who were there forever who would get nasty with each other. Loved them.

Re: Atlanta: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Alright guys, I need some help. I need some 24 hr food recommendations, because I'm getting sick of IHOP and Waffle House at 430 in the morning.

There used to be a perfect Chinese place on 14th and Techwood that was attached to a hotel that I would go to from time to time, but now that's torn down. Also, Disco Diner is gone as well (however, Madame Frederick works at the IHOP across the street from me if that means anything to you).

I don't care about much, just that there is somewhere I can go by once a week or so, sit down, and have a decent meal while reading a book or something.

Re: Atlanta: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Went there once, back when it was relatively unknown.

Ever since some dude from the NY Times proclaimed it the "best burger in America", you can forget about it. I tried going again at 2:30-3, figuring the lunch rush would be over, but the lot was still full (only 8 or so spots, anyway). Even if you find a spot, service takes forever, it's just her working there, and she's like 112 years old.

But yeah, if you somehow make it in, get the ghetto burger, skip the fries.

Re: Atlanta: Your favorite things to do or places to go

i went once on about 5 years ago with a buddy of mine. I guess my post was misleading.

We were driving down memorial and we thought it would be cool to try. It was spectacular. I hear showing up around 10 am is the way to do it.

and when i went, she had some guy helping her work....but not cooking

i have only been once.

i know heaps about food in and around atlanta, just nothing too expensive.

It might be too far from you to be a regular spot, but the Marietta Diner is hard to beat for 24-hour eats. They have a huge menu and the food is great. It is not in downtown, but it is only 5.5 miles outside of the perimeter up 75.
