Part of me died when they closed the Mellow Mushroom in Roswell. I used to go there every Sunday with lifelong friends for pizza and beer, what a shame, I loved that place.
There's another one on Crossville Road. Probably not as good as the old one, but still f'ing great pizza either way.
There are a billion of them all over Atlanta.

For anyone who wants to venture outside of the city proper, Williamson Brothers BBQ in Marietta is the [censored].

Canoe is a fantastic upscale restaurant that isn't so upscale and so expensive that it will make you feel out of place if you are more of a casual diner.

I mentioned the MM on Crossville b/c it's in Roswell.

We could have a whole thread on Atlanta BBQ restaurants. Williamson Bros. I have not heard of. Has anyone been to Swallow at the Hollow or Wyatt's?

My review of Canoe in OOT from about a year ago.

Other fun place to do karaoke is the 10 High club which is right below Dark Horse Tavern in Virginia Highlands. They do a live band karaoke, whose songlist you can find here: http://www.metalsome.net/songs.htm

Dinner at Vortex -> concert at variety playhouse.
or if youre more upscale and less of a hipster...
Dinner at Horseradish grill->concert at Chastain Park.

Also enjoy going to Funny farm in Roswell->Startime arcade/minigolf etc. or reverse order more likely. And punchline is pretty well known comedy club.

I really like the newish restaurant(s, its a chain) Seasons 52.

Also, second all the places mentioned.

I'm actually not such a Vortex fan. They have great decor, but the restaurant really isn't that interesting or good. I feel like it's a goth Applebee's.

Yea I actually like Vortex a lot, although I avoid biker night as shown in your pic.

Regarding the Sweetwater reference, they changed the rules b/c they realized people were driving home hammered. It used to be $6 for 6 tickets and a beer glass. Each ticket got you a FULL beer, best deal ever. Now they changed it so each glass has a mark at 6 oz. and they won't fill it up any higher. Still a fun experience though, since Sweetwater is so good.

Oh man I could eat Swallow in the Hallow for lunch every day! Their portions are huge and the food is great, it's not that expensive but a little more so than most of the chain BBQ places around hear (Famous Dave's, Dreamland etc).

Something a lot of people don't know about the Sweetwater Brewery is that you can rent it out for the evening, set up a live band, and they will provide you with all the beer you can drink for $5 per person. They have a couple staff members that keep the kegs fresh and they set up 3-4 kegs in the back of the warehouse.

Sam,

How many times have you been there? I'll admit I had an overcooked burger there one time, but that's it. Jean and I eat there on average once per week and you and he have the best taste in food of all the people I know so I'm surprised you do not like it.

All,

Peachtree tavern is cheap and a fun time. There are also other bars in the same building. Moondogs upstairs is cheap too. I've never been to Ptree Tavern for karaoke though.

For the karaoke fans, the Ten High Club in VA Highlands does live band karaoke a few nights a week. I forget which night, but one night it's live band metal karaoke!
The Clermont Lounge does karaoke on Tuesday nights so those poor 'strippers' have to dance to whatever some lunatic is belting out over on the dance floor

Good thread guys!

Nuevo Laredo Cantina (Chattahoochee Ave.) needs to be getting more love. It is the best Mexican food I've had in my ~7 years in Atlanta. They put a really good cheese sauce on their fish tacos.

If there's any nature lover's in the area, there's so many great National & State Parks just outside the city. There's also a lot of places on the Chattahoochie River that are great for relaxing in nature on a nice Spring day.

Even when we lived next to Little5, I probably only went to the Vortex a couple times. If Jean liked it, it has to be worth it. I'll give it another shot. Thanks.

I feel way too suburban or young for you guys. I've never been to any of the places listed other than Braves games.

Re: Atlanta: Your favorite things to do or places to go

I feel sorta useless because the extent of my Atlanta living is 95% Buckhead, which has now evolved into it's own city with new condos being built every day and office buildings popping up everywhere.

As another suggestion for Buford highway, if you like soup than any of the Pho (pronounced fuh) places are great. It's Vietnamese soup, where they throw egg noodles, brisket, and other meats that are almost raw into a boiling bowl of beef broth, and the meat sorta cooks in it as you eat it. And it's a big damn bowl, too, at most places.

The thing is, most Pho places are simply distinguished by a number behind them. My usual spot is Pho 76, located next door to one of my favorite Mexican joints La Kermez.

Re: Atlanta: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Yeah, Buckhead is basically useless now. Pretty much every bar and club closed down except for the Tavern/Moondogs/Hole in the Wall block and Fado, but they're moving soon too. Obviously there are still plenty of good places too eat around there, but meh.
