There are a lot of good bars that are heavy on whiskeys and whiskey cocktails.

What kind of place are you looking for? Do you have a link to a couple places in other towns that you really like?

i liked the albannach in london.

but beeing in the south is their a country bar with a lot of bourbon?

Okay cool. Like I said, Atlanta's a little more of a cocktail town than a straight liquor town, but two really good places I like and who have decent selections are H. Harper Station and Empire State South. I would default to H Harper Station in that scenario for strictly whiskey drinking.

Mac McGee in Decatur Square is going to appear to be a shockingly stereotypical American Irish pub, but its collection of whisk(e)y, bourbon, rye....Good Lord. http://macmcgeeirishpub.com/decatur/whiskey

Table & Main is pretty good, but probably too far from where you're staying.

The best bet for you is probably going to be Local Three. http://localthree.com/drink/brownliquor.html

I've been to local three and liked it a lot though I have a much worse grasp on whisky than you do.

Gio's is awesome. Get the Lemon Sorrento Chicken and the Sorrentina Pasta. Both are amazing. Of course, Antico is the best pizza around by 1000 miles, and somehow the owners made me have a dilemma everytime I go, choosing between pizza or the chicken and pasta at Gio's.

Another cool little chicken joint in Decatur is Las Brasas. It's basically takeout only, but it is really good Peruvian rotisserie chicken.

Other places I go alot:

For a quick bite, 7Hens on Clairemont and Decatur. Awesome chicken schnitzel sandwiches. Trust me, try it. I think they might still be on Scoutmob and you can also buy $20 certificates for $10 on loafdeals.

Fox Bros- already been mentioned a few times itt.

Arepa Mia- located in the Sweet Auburn Market. Really good Arepas. I usually get the one with chicken and add a fried egg. Yum.

Lotta Fruitta- cool little smoothie/fruit/juice place with alot of South American fruit you otherwise don't really see in Atlanta.

Fine Dining: Rathbun's or Rathbun's Steak, Atlanta Fish Market.

Oh, and I don't remember seeing anyone post about the Beltline, but the finished section that starts at Piedmont Park at Monroe Dr. is great. I ride my bike there all the time- they have a great wide path for walking/biking/skating/etc., a dog park, cool art along the path, a skate park, and plenty of space. At the other end of the Eastside trail is Bell Street Burrito, which is very good as well.

I like this Jamaal84 guy!

Arepa Mia is terrific. Definitely get the cachapas if you're going with a group, but it'll be tough to eat an arepa and cachapas by yourself and not feel terrible.

Lotta Fruitta is about 200 feet away from my building (no, not that building, the one right next to it) so I go over for a $5 fruit cup pretty often if I'm going in to work late.

I also feel like we need a little Buford Highway tangent, so what are people's favorite places on the best stretch for international food in Atlanta?

Lee's Bakery - best bahn mi in Atlanta, and it's $3.75 or buy 5 and get the 6th free
El Senor Taco - I love fish tacos, and these guys win at fish tacos
Panahar - Bangladeshi food. Granted I've only eaten here in big groups where we did a prix fixe deal that was $30 family-style dining where they just kept bringing out more and more dishes

Gu's bistro just north of 285 on Buford. Great chinese

Canton Buddha on Ptree in Buckhead is the best Chinese takeout or delivery place I know of. Not authentic or any of that, just normal <$10 Americanized Chinese.

Any new spots or old spots that people are discovering/rediscovering?

Went back to Las Brasas in Decatur today and it was awesome, but there are rarely many people picking up there at a time, so I feel like I need to open people's eyes to how good it is. Go try it!

Anyone been to Jeni's ice cream at Westside Provisions yet? Curious if its worth trying. I know people really like it in other cities or in pints in whole foods or whatever, but I haven't heard much about the new Atl location. Anything else cool popping up anywhere?

I am bummed that Bell St closed before I could try it. I'm hoping the kebob place replacing it is quality. I am on the beltline daily.

My favorite places recently have been Bantam Pub, Dua Vietnamese (for pho ITP), The Optimist, and Restaurant Eugene.

Well the good news is that bell street still exists not far from the beltline in the sweet Auburn curb market on Edgewood ave! From where the old location is just head down auburn and cross over to Edgewood ave one street over and it's right by the highway entrance. they also just opened a new location on peachtree.

Jeni's is amazing. They came by our office in their food truck about a week before opening and the ice cream was incredible. Sweet potato and roasted marshmallow was a fan favorite, as was the sweet corn and blueberry.

Obv not down on the cool end if I never see you and you never went to Bell St.
fwiw, Bob is owned by the guy who owns the market itself (and Jake's) and I've heard he's a little crazy. Hopefully the good crazy that means solid food and not the bad crazy that means "I just kicked out a tenant that everyone loves so I can get more money from the increased foot traffic."

Bantam is really good. We've been there a couple times because of friends who live in the Block Lofts right there and always enjoyed it.

Sweet Auburn food rankings (craving independent):
1. Arepa Mia
2. Soul food buffet in the middle
3. Grindhouse
4. Bell Street
5. Sweet Auburn Barbecue

Honorable mention for cookies and brownies at Sweet Auburn Bakery

Totally agree about arepa Mia being by far the best thing there. Even when I go to sweet auburn thinking I'm gonna get a burrito, I almost always end up getting an arepa instead. Sucks for bell street cuz if it were still at jakes I'd be eating it alot. Arepa Mia is one of my favorite things to eat in atl though and its hard to eat something else when its tempting me from across the room. Had it Monday and it hit the spot as always.

Good to hear about jeni's. will def try it soon.

And unfortunately I think the owner of bobs/jakes is most likely the bad kind of crazy who kicks out a great tenant because he's greedy. There's no way he could have gotten bobs up and running this fast unless he's had a plan in the works for a while now. I've also heard rumors in the past of him screwing over others. Just rumors but where there's this much smoke... But jakes is good so maybe he's both kinds of crazy and bobs will be good. Not rushing to give him my business though

Finally got over to Jeni's today after having lunch at Gio's. Took your suggestion and had the sweet potato with marshmallow which was awesome! I was very skeptical cuz I don't really love sweet potato, but its just a really good cinnamon-y ice cream with really good marshmallows. I also got the Black Coffee which was good, and I sampled a bunch more. The pear sorbet will probably be my next choice when I go back, but they were all really good. Really high quality ice cream. The gravel toppings were fine but I will probably go without next time.
