Hit up vortex tonight. Solid A grade burger joint.

I freakin love Octopus Bar, always trying to find an excuse to go if I'm out past 10 pm anywhere near there.

Had a solid weekend in Atlanta. If I came again I'd prob try to rent a car as getting to some areas can be a bit of a hike without one and there didn't seem to be many cabs around of you went off the main downtown/midtown drags.

Found some solid places to drink. Had a great meal at vortex. Everywhere else was nothing special. Sadly didn't make it out to antico on my trip.

Thanks for the Recs everyone. Doubtful ill be back anytime soon but you never know.

Hitting up Prohibition in Buckhead after work today, great on weekdays for a happy hour cocktail, awful crowded on weekends

ATL food scene has been blowing up over the past year. Here's the latest from Esquire

Have not been to Gunshow yet (it opened a week ago), but it's pretty close to me so the gf and I should head over in the next couple weeks.

Finally made it to Chai Pani in Decatur (Indian street food mixed with Southern) and it was unbelievable. The okra fries are their signature item for a reason.

Also spent a few nights on Edgewood at Mother and Joystick. You've gotta be okay with hipsters and in a certain mood to enjoy this, but if you're in that mood it's fantastic. Great drinks a rotating food menus at Joystick (plus 25c games of NBA Jam, TMNT: Turtles in Time, Bad Dudes, and Rampage among others) and a fun dance floor, great food space, and awesome patio all mashed into one at Mother.

nit: gunshow has been open like a month

Is Edgewood East Atlanta Village? It was the new hipster frontier when I moved away.
06-12-2013 , 01:26 PM
Nah, not really. EAV is in the same general area (East side, basically straddling I-20), but maybe 3-4 miles away

The "Edgewood" I'm referring to is the stretch of Edgewood Ave that runs from the connector down to about the O4W/Inman Park border, so not the "Edgewood" neighborhood that sits just north of EAV. Amazza, SoundTable, Church, Cafe Circa, Mother, Joystick, Noni's

EAV is basically the southeast corner of where I-20 hits Moreland. It's got places like Graveyard, Octopus Bar, The Midway, The Glenwood, Elder Tree, and The Earl

EAV is definitely super hipster also, though.

mmbt0ne you need to go to silverlake in LA sometime
06-12-2013 , 09:09 PM
Me and LA don't have a great history, but I was on the Westside for all of that so maybe I just needed a different spot.

how much fun is music midtown if you dont like the music? I have no interest in anyone except kendrick lamar and 2 chainz, but still might go if its as fun as everyone says. Does it only get good reviews because the people who go like this sort of music?

There'll be so many hot girls all over that place so if you're not there for the music that would be the only other reason I would venture you head out.

As far as restaurants: Perla Tacos in Buckhead! Great little taco spot and not that expensive at all.

Peter Cheng's Tasty China II is my favorite restaurant in the Atlanta area right now. Szechuan cooking, super spicy and delicious. If you go try the numbing beef rolls, Chan City Chicken, and Cumin lamb.

Also, since it's 2+2, there are a lot of great poker games you can find in the area. Most of them are crazy high rake in the $9-15 range, and some good home games with no rake at all.

For those that want to get plugged in to that scene, check out the Brick and Mortar Atlanta Thread, or start going to the free restaurant tourney games, get to know some of the players, and ask them if they know about any cash games in town.

I've always had a blast even when I didn't really enjoy the music. It's just a bunch of people getting wasted and partying pretty much, you'd have to try not to have a good time imo.

Some real good bars around that part of town

^ Church Bar is one of a kind. My other favorite bars around that area are Noni's, Joystick Game Bar and the speakeasy inside Vesuvius Pizza.
