Re: Ask TheMetetron about living in or visiting Buenos Aires, Argentina
Is there any issues w regarding to visas when coming to Argentina? Coming from an EU country? Will they be suspicious of me saying I am just on a tourist visa if I arrive with 2 monitors and a desktop?
Also, is Recoleta still the place to live? Looking on bytargentina for accommodation at the minute, flights are booked for September 6th

Re: Ask TheMetetron about living in or visiting Buenos Aires, Argentina
Praetor --
I had the same worry 3 months ago, but I declared it all and had no problems. When I went through customs, the xray guy saw 2 flatscreen monitors and computer hidden away suspiciously in my boxes, but since I had written it down and told him it was only for personal use, that they were used, and I wasn't going to sell it, he let me through. I doubt you'll have much of a problem, but I wouldn't bring them in the original boxes, personally.
Almost zero chance you'll have an issue with visa. When you get through customs, you'll go to the migraciones desk (think that was the name) and they basically just stamp your passport with a 90day tourist visa automatically. Just tell them you're a tourist. I'd be absolutely shocked if you had any troubles -- I'd done my research but was still nervous. I had zero troubles. I think they asked me my job (I said I didn't have one) and my address (I think I said I didn't remember).
As to where you live, I think it depends. If you want Argentine girls to think you're a balla, i'd do Puerto Madero (though (depending on age) they'll probably still think you're a baller if you have your own place in Palermo or Recolata, especially if it's nice). If you like restaurants, I'd choose Palermo Hollywood. If you want to pretend like you're still in college, I'd choose Palermo Soho. Personally I prefer Palermo. I lived in Palermo Hollywood, now I live in Belgrano. My guess is that most 2p2ers live in Palermo.
If you want any info on specific areas or locations, let me know. If I happen to be going by a place you're thinking of renting (eg, I'm not likely to make a trip across town, but I'll try be helpful), I can make sure there isn't construction next door that will wake you up at 8am.

Re: Ask TheMetetron about living in or visiting Buenos Aires, Argentina
Considering moving to BsAs for a few months, possibly longer.
Couple questions.
1) I googled a bit and it seems online gambling is fine there? Do any poker sites not service Argentina? Do they make any distinction for sports betting, or is that fine too?
2) Also considering Rio De Janeiro, any compare contrast analysis between the two cities would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

1. Not that I know of.
2. Haven't been to Rio, but generally I think it's probably fair to say that Rio is much more expensive and much more dangerous.

Re: Ask TheMetetron about living in or visiting Buenos Aires, Argentina
Hahaha, I just smuggled in a desktop, a 30 inch monitor, and a 20 inch as well not to mention 2 externals, 2 ihomes, an ipod touch and 3 cameras. Can't believe all this **** is still in 1 piece.
Btw, there aren't many places for decent beer here, but there are a couple.

Currently looking at apartments, what would you guys recommend? First I was into Recoleta, but is Palermo better maybe?
Where do most of you guys live ?
