Apparently he's been at this for a while. Hopefully this is the album that makes it for him.

Here's some good indie pop so far this year imo:

"Girls Chase Boys" by Ingrid Michaelson. (the whole new "Lights Out" album is really good)

"I Kill Giants" by The Naked and Famous. The album technically came out last year but this wasn't released until the end of the year.

"Future Friends" by Tilian

"Tranquilize" by Finish Ticket

"Losing Sleep" by John Newman

"Be My Forever" by Christina Perri (featuring Ed Sheeran)

"Long Time Coming" by Saints of Valory. The whole EP is good. This is the only song on the EP that I could find on You Tube and it's probably the least best of the 4--but still good.

totally unrelated to 2014, it's old, but I hadn't heard this song in a while and found it on my laptop. You Kate Bush fans may like it. Slow build, give it time.

Exciting to me: New Goat album to be released in September. First single available now.

Saw St-Vincent Sunday night, and had heard nothing from that last album prior to that (despite many of you saying how good it was). I had seen her 2 years ago and really disliked that set. Anyway she killed it Sunday, and I can def see what the hype is about with regards to her last album. She reminds me of some sort of reincarnation of old Bowie, in chick form.

and yeah crazy that keef is still only 18, how it go is my favorite of these songs

Also 1017 Thug 2 dropped and is pretty good, couple of standouts: Oh Ya and Strange Things.

New single from Lapsley, who's earlier single kicked Station off this thread. Love it, I think she's going to be huge.

Not sure if you guys have heard of Sir Sly but they're putting out their debut album and just released their first single. I really like it, sounds like the Neighbourhood a bit

You Haunt Me

Definitely hear The Neighborhood in some of their stuff. If you don't mind, I'm going to borrow this comparison as a contribution to the thread I started called "Music - If you like X, then you might like Y." Feel free to join in!

Any thoughts on the Lollapalooza lineup in Chicago? I'm not really a fan of the headliners, but I'm going tomorrow and checking out Temples, Courtney Barnett, Bombay Bicycle Club, Warpaint, Portugal. The Man, Chvrches, Broken Bells, mabye Lykke Li?, and then Eminem as the headliner. Should be pretty dope.

Hadn't heard of this before the p4k review of Romantic Times and dunno if has been posted, but anyone ITT up on Lewis?

The two pretty much previously-unheard records that've been reissued this year are just incredible. And plus these album covers of this guy making this music. And the mysterious backstory doesn't hurt, been entertained by the huge hipinion thread on him: http://fourms.hipinion.com/viewtopic...22cb922054339c Briefer version in the p4k reviews

If you like Twin Peaks this should probably appeal to you a great deal, does for me at least. Should be listened to on headphones for sure.

So somehow I had never heard any Nick Cave (that I know of) before last night. ya I know, no idea how. Anyway does one of you want to recommend which album I should start with? So many. This must have been in the 2013 thread, but godamn it's good.

I consider that to basically be the perfect song, in that genre. I think I've listened to it 20 times since yesterday, and not a lot of songs have done that to me recently.

You would have heard a tonne of Nick Cave without knowing. Red Right Hand has appeared everywhere, for instance. His career stretches so far back, and he's explored so many sounds, that it's hard to recommend any one song or album in particular.

His first shift to slow and moody ballads that I'm aware of was The Boatman's Call. I never explored his full discography, but I always loved Let Love In in particular.

Going further back, Hard On For Love is a good example of the griminess of his early sound, cultivated in dingy clubs in London and Berlin.

And more recently obviously there's his side project with Warren Ellis, Grinderman. If you watched True Detective, Honey Bee closed out one of the eps.

The new Spoon album "They Want My Soul" is pretty good.
