dirty projectors' new record is pretty good imo ... if "bitte orca" is abstract, frenetic chamber pop, "swing lo magellan" may be more like early R&B set to bizarre, often minimalist arrangements. everything still sounds meticulously disorganized and the singers still sound like the existence of words are completely incidental to the phrasing of their vocal melodies. but some tracks have more of a direct lyrical approach, songs a little shorter, some of the choruses sound like, you know, actual choruses. a lot of the arrangements seem to be built around a single sound, a detuned slide riff or an ambient violin part for instance, with just vocals and a little percussion to round it out. is this one of our weirdest pop bands inching towards making an actual pop record? not exactly. i dunno. it's pretty good imo.
I saw Tom Petty, Pearl Jam and Springsteen last weekend at the Isle of Wight and all three were absolutely amazing with Springsteen being perhaps the best gig I've ever been to. They more than made up for the horrible combination of water logged campsite/torrential rain and wicked sunburn. lolengland I guess.
Is there a hip-hop specific thread. This might not be for everyone, some people simply dont like hip-hop. But the segment from 4:00 to 4:20 is just so dope. Not on lyrical basis, but the entire arrangement and how everything just comes together perfectly.
The Lumineers
Amazing for anyone who likes acoustic/indie stuff
Another one of their songs, a bit more poppy/catchy, still sounds good.
Fink
Another recent discovery, an amazing musician.

Reason: such a pain to post youtube vid on here lol
Grabbed a ticket to Wilco & Andrew Bird for tomorrow. Both playing full sets at a minor league baseball park in suburban Chicago. Should be a great venue for a show, very pumped.
Anyone have an opinion on Tom Morello's solo stuff? Friend is trying to get me to go see him in NY with him but the ticket is a little pricey. Just wondering if he's worth seeing live.
I think worth seeing if you're a guitar guy. Don't love his stuff, although this most recent album isn't too bad - kind of "anthem-y" with protest songs.
