The new Exitmusic album Passage is probably my favorite this year. You can preview the whole thing on NPR.

Not good at comparisons, but they remind me of Beach House and Portishead.

I like that Exitmusic song.

I missed this thread during the 2p2 dark period. Some stuff I listened to in that time, in case anyone else is interested:

Lately I'm more into the My Bloody Valentine reissues though... so sick imo.

One of my favorite tracks of 2012. Missed it if it was already covered.

There's several upcoming releases that could change that (for me at least).

May 22- Exitmusic - Passage
May 29- The Walkmen - Heaven
May 29- Sigur Ros - Valtari
June 5- Liars - WIXIW
June 12- TTMOE - There's No Leaving Now
June 19- Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel

The new Walkmen is up on NPR's First Listen.

Getting psyched, going to see Jack White + Alabama Shakes tonight. The set lists have been incredible.

I have turned a corner with Beach House where I now find their music borderline nauseating. Norway was the first song of theirs I ever heard, and I loved it. But over time I've come to find their sound to be so narrow that everything they do just bleeds into everything else. The end result is some sort of grey sludge of contemporary soft rock. What a ****ing bore.

Which I wouldn't bother to post if everyone on the internet wasn't apparently infatuated with them.

I still like them but agree with a lot of what you're saying. They don't really evolve their sound or show any interest in pushing outside of their comfort zone, and I can already tell that it's going to get old for me soon. Even now I don't like them as much as I feel like I "should" given that they're pretty firmly in my taste wheelhouse.

I'm guessing this is another subjective thing, because most of my favorite artists are ones who change it up from record to record. I think most people just like what they like and want more of it.

Heard a new track from Minus The Bear today. Wasn't the album version so the audio quality wasn't all there but it sounded like a more mature version on their old music, both lyrically and musically.

Also, new Local Natives song sounds promising:

This is the album I'm anticipating the most for this year.

Has a 2012 local natives record been announced?

I agree with this big time. I mean I still think "Teen Dream" is a nice album and worth a listen every now and then. But I listened to "Bloom" once through and just had very little interest. It was ok I guess, but the rave reviews for it sort of mystified me.

I thought this was catchy as hell:

I like it. Kinda sounds like The Beta Band.

The new Best Coast is actually pretty decent, but really effing unnecessary if you have the first. It's really that similar.

The recent Paul Weller disc has been awesome, however. And high hopes for the upcoming Mission of Burma.

Haven't picked up the new BJM yet. Need to rectify that, stat.

That new Local Natives song sounds a lot like The Bends era Radiohead. I like it.

This song is the hottest thing i've ever heard:

Killer Mike - Big Beast (w/ Bun B and TI)

Can't find it on Youtube but from Temper Trap's new album:

The album is really growing on me.

Anyone know what's going on with waffles/if there's a new url?

I want to download the album by Polica after hearing this track. Reminiscent of Zola Jesus.
