Perfume Genius, Kvelertak, Mesita = thanks thread!

I never know what to say when people ask me where I find out about less-obvious, random music these days, since probably 80% of that stuff I get from here. "Oh I participate in El Diablo's forum."

I've had to preface each Perfume Genius rec to friends with "this is the gayest thing I will ask you to watch today, but..." so much that I've had it on copy/paste on my phone for the last few days.

Old news. The last time we discussed this song we (or, I) bitched about how much Pierce ripped off Citizen Bird.

I love Spiritualized but I wish he hadn't started plagiarizing.

In other news, I saw Pulp Thursday night and am too lazy to post pics right now but it was one of the best concerts of my life. I was giddy with joy.

This is 46 years before 2012, but I don't care. Too awesome:

Sure, but they'd better be damn good and it's going to be hard to top that Save Me video.

Yes, all his stuff is great. I'm pretty psyched, recently got orchestra seats to see him doing a show in a small theatre.

The album in its entirety is pretty average but I love this song + clip.

I think the whole album is fantastic actually. The perfect kind of indie pop that is sweet and genuine instead of trying to get on an iPod commercial.

The new St. Vincent is cool, very unlike what is on her full lengths. Much more rocking and the b-side sounds like her attempt at drone metal or something.

Fiona Apple also released her first song in seven years today. It is good obv. http://soundcloud.com/fionaapple/every-single-night

That link is broken. I posted a few tracks from it near the top of this page.

While this maybe true, that name combined with the type of music they play creates a level of twee that is almost impossible to overcome.

ive been using last.fm for 8 years and just discovered the neighbourhood and recommended radio stations. easily be best mix of music ive ever heard. love almost every song over a 4 hour stretch, most are new to me. if you dont have the lastfm plugin you are missing out bigtime

Ha!

Can't help but agree. Hard to hype a band like that to anyone who doesn't make jewelry out of seashells and pebbles in their spare time.

Fun band. The first song of theirs I'd heard, "Young Love" sounds freakishly similar to any Arctic Monkeys track so I wasn't feeling them too much until I heard a few more songs. Zootime is a good album to check out.

'Grot' from St. Vincent's Krokodil 7" is ****ing awesome, hope she does more like that in the future

Yeah I despised twee for a long time and a lot of it can still be sickening. But I think older bands like Tiger Trap and now Allo Darlin' can find the perfect balance where their lyrics are from the heart, sweet, and maybe nostalgic but it feels genuine instead of some attempt at being cutesy. Kind of hard to explain the distinction though and maybe it's just something I made up.

"Tallulah" is also definitely the most "twee" song on the album too. Most of it is more up-tempo jangle-pop stuff ("The Letter" is another great track but there's not a video of it anywhere).

Could someone please try to explain Death Grips to me?
