Re: 2012 Music Thread

I've been in Afghanistan for the past 9 months so I've really been out of the music loop but I'm going Coachella the 2nd weekend. Anyone else going?

Re: 2012 Music Thread

2 new Radiohead songs done at their latest concert. I really like Identikit because it sounds like a trend back to some older stuff.

If by "older" you mean Hail to the Thief, that's true.

I guess we can give up the idea of hearing some OK Computer/Kid A-type stuff. It's sad to me; I used to worship Radiohead with an unreasonable devotion. Those days are over, mate.

I still consider Radiohead my favorite band of all time, and I had a hard time bringing myself to listening to King of Limbs for the first time (and total listenings is probably < 5). It's tough for me to even put my current feelings into words because of the massive amount of respect I have for them and their sound, and I'm also really open to going into new directions of their music because hell, my tastes have certainly changed over the years. I'm still fond of In Rainbows, Hail to the Thief, and Amnesiac but I just can't find myself getting excited about new songs until I see how they fit into the structure of an album.

Maybe it's just that they had such a huge impact during my formative years that could never be matched now. I have to cut myself off now or I could ramble forever

For those into the more "out there" stuff, Black to Comm's new record Earth just leaked and it is hauntingly gorgeous. It's drone/folk with creepy Scott Walker-esque vocals

Re: 2012 Music Thread

Even though it's recently become very fashionable to talk about Alabama Shakes, that doesn't mean they aren't great. I've never seen a band so hyped in the blogosphere before they even released an album, but it really is for good reason.

They are playing Sasquatch, and I noticed them in that Newport festival lineup above.

To give credit where credit is due, I found them from RiverFenix's post in January in this thread, I just never saw anymore mention of them and thought they deserved a bump.

I kind of take the "meh" experimental Radiohead in stride because they probably wouldn't have made Kid A or Hail to the Thief if they were the type to tread water. In a way I would rather get a record like KoL, which I thought was ok but did not get hyped for, than get an attempt to revisit Kid A.

Of course, if advance reviews came out for the next record and said, "ZOMG sounds like Kid A ten year later," I would jizz buckets. I'm just sayin. Philosophically, etc.
