I'm probably going to be alone on this, but Clay Aiken's new album "Steadfast" just came out last week and it's surprisingly good.
Most of this stuff I find really cheesy, including Aiken's earlier releases. But this particular album shows a lot of depth that he honestly needed. Aiken came from a time when American Idol contestants were actually talented (yes, I even like Kelly Clarkson, so shut up), and there's no denying his voice is awesome.
But with this record, especially on tracks like the one above, he's showing signs of a real artist. The production is outstanding -- sparse enough to show off his pipes, but rich enough with the piano and percussion to give it layers. And the lyrics show a lot of maturity, even for an ostensibly simple love song. Great stuff.
