Well it's synthy 80's throwback, so it taps into the musical zeitgeist at the moment.

I haven't listened to the record yet, but the tracks I've heard have been pretty catchy. I get it, just not that excited about it.

it needs to be more synthy

Co-sign. And usually this type of music is a little too electronic/synth for me.

Late 2011 release, but the debut album from Aussie group Lost Animal - 'Ex Tropical' is outstanding. This is probably the standout track.

Very good, I could see them becoming one of my favorite bands, will definitely check them out.

Anyone know what's going on at 2:05 in the video?

The new Hot Chip is amazing. Can't wait to see them play Prospect Park. A word of advice though, DO NOT watch the video they posted for this song unless you want to throw up. It's literally a camera mounted on a record that's spinning. My head hurt so bad from it.

Even though the album came out in 2011, a band I've gotten into recently is TV Ghost. Kinda hard to describe the sound...

truth be told these guys are one of my favorite bands ever but they haven't made a great record since live at the hardback.

Finally a new track from Jai Paul. Slightly disappointed, not a bad track but not on par with BTSU imo.

To her credit she was apparently just getting over being sick (the concert was delayed by a week because she was legitimately sick). Some of the songs were solid but mostly it just seemed like a bit of a train wreck. It was too bad because the crowd seemed good and ready to go nuts but she really just didn't pull it off.

Hopefully it really was just a bad day for her but who knows.
Idk anyone who knew her at McGill, eventhough I had friends in the music department, but it's really funny how much backlash I have seen from random McGill friends about her. They are jealous that she somehow released a pretty damn good poppy album and I am hearing so much "and she isn't even that good looking" or that her success has just been manufactured by music blogs or other statements that are just drenched in envy. [/cool story]

I like what I've heard of Chromatics thus far, but the below is true.

grimes: because the world needs more liberal arts majors impersonating an 8 year old through a delay pedal.

I don't ever post but check these threads from time to time because you guys have come through in the past with good music and given the heads up on album leaks. Anyway just wanted to return the favor with some good tunes you may not have heard before. Most of these bands I saw at SXSW this year or found through the Great Escape lineup. Any of you going to The Great Escape festival or have been before btw? The lineup is terrific and I hear it's the SXSW of England. I may just head over there if someone hypes it up. Cheers.

Jake Bugg - Trouble Town

Boy - Skin (acoustic version)

Juveniles - We Are Young

Jamie N Commons - Nina

POLICA - Lay Your Cards Out

Firehorse - Our Hearts

Housse de Racket - Roman

Jethro Fox - Before

Gold & Youth - Time To Kill

Class Actress - Bienvenue

Geographer - Life of Crime

Grass House - A Cradle, A Short Breath

La femme - Sur La Planche

Eleven:Eleven -Electric Sex

Jordan Cook aka ReignWolf - Electric Love

Half Moon Run - Call Me in the Afternoon

Kindest Lines - "Running Into Next Year"

Jacques Lu Cont - Church

Films of Colour - Running

Well that was more than I planned but whatever. Hope you find something new that you like.

My room mate in 4th year was in a couple music classes with her. Said she was nice if not unremarkable.

My gf also went to school with her for grade 5-8.

I like her album.

New Beach House might be AOTY for me thus far

I'm probably going to be alone on this, but Clay Aiken's new album "Steadfast" just came out last week and it's surprisingly good.

Most of this stuff I find really cheesy, including Aiken's earlier releases. But this particular album shows a lot of depth that he honestly needed. Aiken came from a time when American Idol contestants were actually talented (yes, I even like Kelly Clarkson, so shut up), and there's no denying his voice is awesome.

But with this record, especially on tracks like the one above, he's showing signs of a real artist. The production is outstanding -- sparse enough to show off his pipes, but rich enough with the piano and percussion to give it layers. And the lyrics show a lot of maturity, even for an ostensibly simple love song. Great stuff.

Hadn't heard of this guy until last week but I'm enjoying the album The Coyote from Mesita.

You should have panned an R.E.M. song - would have left us guessing!

It fooled me for a little bit and then I thought, wait, if this were true there would have been 85 think pieces about his new album, which is kind of a sad reflection on how much media I intake.
