uNL Software Guide & Discussion

Most of us at uNL seem to be using software fairly well.
This is intended as a guide for newer players and also perhaps to discover what little gems some of us are using and others are missing out.

Firstly Im going to state what should be obvious.
No amount of software with improve your game without you putting in the effort to match.
There is no magic wand.
Like the apprentice who turns up for his first day with all the best shiny new kit - you are doomed to fail if you do not want to work hard at learning how to use it.

With that said if your not using at least "the essentials" here then you probably are missing out.

(1) The Essentials.
(a) Pokertracker - www.pokertracker.com
Guides -
- Pokeys How to use pokertracker.
(b) A Heads Up Display
The most common is Poker Ace
Guides
- Pokeys HUD advice
- FTP PAHUD Setup
- Split Suits PAHUD Breakdown by colour.
There are other HUDs out there including some free ones so look around.
Some players dont use a HUD, including some that crush uNL. Find what works for you.
(c) Equity Calculation.
Like it or not this is a maths game. Dont like maths? Tough.
The good news is that all the hard work has already been done, you just need to learn it.
Pokerstove is free and awesome. It should be opened every time you look at a HH. Play around with it, dont just post hands and expect someone else to do this for you.
Pokerazor is at beta stage right now. It looks advanced and seems to be attracting a lot of intrest, I cant say I have had much time to play with it yet.
My initial impression is that it could be an awesome tool - in the right hands.

(2) AHK Scripts.
Auto Hot Key is a programming language for automating windoze processes.
You could write your own AHK script to do things like open and close a bunch of programs, type a string when you press Shift+F10 - you get the idea.
There are a bunch of AHK scripts for multitabling, most of them you will find either at the Software Forum or the overcards AHK list which is pure gold.
I cant honestly give you a list of scripts that you should be using, everyone had different styles so play around with stuff.
To give you an idea of what you might be missing out on these guys have free
- Bet Pot Scripts (you can customize these to bet whatever you like with a single key/mouse click)
- Auto Reload Scripts
- Table Opener Scripts
- Buddy Lists
Also, if you find a free program that really really helps your winrate. Dont be a douche - ship the author a little monies, this is freeware and thats how it works.

(3) Make Pretty Graphs.
Just please be sure to post them in the appropiate LC/monthy thread or whatever.
Pokergrapher Makes a pretty graph of your winnings (we never lose obv).
PokerEVgrapher So you can whine about running bad. Actually there is more to this software than luck graphs so explore it.

(4) Mod your table.
Maybe it helps you play better, maybe your just the kind of person who cant leave anything the way it is. Either way....
Full Tilt Mods
Stars Mods

(5) Datamining.
For full tilt I use Full Tilt Table Opener and leave PT running. Someone recently said that its against FT T&C but mining tilt is so widespread Im not sure what the exact situation is.
For pokerstars. Its forbidden, if you want to use the search function then fine. Just be aware of the risks.

A final point - If you have a specific question about software or a technical question, Dont post it here.
You will get more responses if you go to the Software forum (thats what its for) or go to the appropiate website for that product.

Also, be careful what you download.
Make sure that your firewall and virus checking are up to date, if your not sure about something then dont install it.

If you have a piece of software that you think should be added to this list then please add it on.

GameTime+ is a free hud, although I find pokerace more useful and less resource intensive. however for beginners and ultra-micro players such as me its more than enough

Thumbs up Re: uNL Software Guide & Discussion

RealTime HUD. Free and very good and so-i'm-told much less processer intensive than PokerACE when multi-tabling.

And by the same guy (a poster on 2+2 - mike ch0ps, i believe);
'Hold Em Ranger' Equity calculations like Pokerstove, slightly less user friendly, but with this you can weight the holdings making it more useful in a real world context..

Both available at this site.

No, PokerStars specifically permits the use of SixthSense on their site.

Can anyone confirm this?

Nevermind, I followed the lnk and it's there as a permitted program. More specifically, #34.

Re: uNL Software Guide & Discussion

Although this isn't a software I think it fits in. They recommend the softest tables. Tried it for Party NL50 and even though it didn't seem to have a lot of data, the tables that were on the top of the list were soft.

Supports FullTilt, Bodog, Ipoker and PartyPoker
