River raise too thin?

Could I have conceivably got called by worse if I raise this river? The villain is a 17/14 reggish type player over 52 hands

PokerStars - $0.50 NL - Holdem - 7 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

SB: $50.39
BB: $58.89
UTG: $51.50
Hero (UTG+1): $52.25
MP: $19.25
CO: $57.04
BTN: $50.25

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero has 8 8

UTG raises to $1.50, Hero calls $1.50, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold

Flop: ($3.75, 2 players) A 8 T
UTG bets $2.00, Hero calls $2.00

Turn: ($7.75, 2 players) T
UTG checks, Hero checks

River: ($7.75, 2 players) Q
UTG bets $5.00, Hero calls $5.00

UTG shows K J (Straight, Ace High) (Pre 46%, Flop 18%, Turn 0%)
Hero shows 8 8 (Full House, Eights full of Tens) (Pre 54%, Flop 82%, Turn 100%)
Hero wins $16.95

I'll bite. Raise flop. Wet board, plenty of Ax/Combo draws. Stop being a nit.

Re: River raise too thin?

raise the flop,

bet 33% of the pot OTT

and shove the river.

Why bet only 33% OTT? because you are inviting him to draw his hand and get a straight or a flush OTR and get all his chips.
Since you have position over him you can shove OTR and he will happily call, thinking he will get paid off with his gutshot while he was drawing dead

Re: River raise too thin?

Just going to answer your actual question: Your hand is good in this spot most of the time, unless he has exactly QQ. He can call with a lot of worse hands (if you have the proper image).

Not the odds to setmine, and definitely shouldn't be setmining if you're going to play your hand like this.

1. Decent regs don't often pay off sets when our hand is face up pre as a mid PP set-mine.

2. We often don't get to see a flop because we get squeezed in this spot a lot of the time.

3. We often won't have position post flop so when we miss our set we won't have the opportunity to bluff raise flops or stab when checked to.

You need to email Stars there is clearly a glitch in your software as it appears you don't have a button that allows you to raise.

Haha, I don't need it, I prefer to play my hands passively to try and counteract the aggression of other players and use it against them. :-D

Turn: Trying to trap and under rep my hand

River: Standard call with the 7th nuts

I've gotta admit, I definitely didn't expect to see this HH when I read the title and opened the thread.
