Thread title says it all. I want to start an ongoing project of updating the old Concepts of the Week, and I'm looking for volunteers.

My intention is to generate a list of authors of at least 7 other people. We'll then go through the existing CoTW and identify the prime candidates for updating. Volunteers can then choose the CoTW that they want to update, and I'll write any you guys don't volunteer for.

ITT, I would like to keep it simple--don't post ITT except to volunteer.

If any discussion is necessary, lets keep it in the CoTW table of contents thread. I really just want this to be a list of volunteers.

Edit 1:

The more the merrier; 7 was an estimated minimum, but I'll be happy with 50 volunteers.

Edit 2:

Super excited by the excellent turn out ITT, thanks to everyone who has volunteered.

Below, I have selected a TENTATIVE list of the CotW articles I think we should update first.

The list is tentative because:

1. If there is one not on the list you want to write, whether it is an update of an existing article or a new article, just go ahead and sign up for it and I'll put it on the schedule along with all of the articles I listed that people sign up for. All I ask is that all volunteers sign up for at least one or two updates that are on this list.

2. If there is one you think should be a high priority update that I failed to list, please point it out in the CotW Schedule and Table of Concepts thread. Again, I want this thread to contain only posts where you list the article(s) you're volunteering to write. That will just make it a lot easier for me to compile the new schedule.

Notes:

1. We have 11 or 12 authors now, so I have a bit more than 2 articles per author here. That leaves plenty of wiggle room for you guys to select your own topics. With 11 or 12 of us writing, two each gets us through the end of the year quite easily, so anything else we schedule now is pure gravy.

2. I'm reserving "The Last Word on Redline" for myself, lol, because I have been meaning to update it for a while now.

3. I'm planning to schedule this on a pretty strict rotation: that is, we'll all write our first article, then write our second article in roughly the same order, etc. I might make exceptions during the second round to group similar subjects. But I want everybody to get published asap. Once that's accomplished, we can play around with the schedule as needed.

4. I have a request in to the powers that be for a STANDARDIZED custom (lol, oxymorons) undertitle for all CotW authors who volunteer who want it (I'm thinking of you, Klairic--you probably don't want to replace "See my coach listing;" we'll probably link to your coaching thread in the about the author bio as an alternative). I expect it to be approved, but no guarantees. If you have any ideas for a clever alternative to "Concept of the Week Author" that calls attention to the articles and your contribution, feel free to post the ideas in the other CotW thread.

5. I want each of you to start thinking of a 3-4 sentence bio that we can include in your CotW. Something along the lines of "Aesah is a mid and high stakes professional poker player living in Los Angeles. A past guest commentator on Bart Hanson's "Live at the Bike" webcast, Aesah plays a mix of NLHE and PLO." (That's his actual bio, folks, we're very lucky to have him contributing!)

6. "Updating" the CotW means whatever you think it means. If you think it means heaily referencing the original, feel free. If you think that means scrapping the original and starting from scratch, feel free. It may or may not mean referencing points raised in the posts in the original CotW; y'all basically have free reign here.

OK, so here's the list, annotated maybe with my thoughts if any:

2009 CotWs:

Using Pokerstove (Lots of new equity calculators)
Preflop positional awareness (basic stats are way different, esp on btn these days)
blind stealing
3 betting
c-betting
value betting (I'm not sure about this one, CMAR's post may be timeless)
flop check raises
blocking bets
cold calling/advanced cold calling (These can be updated together, a 2 for 1 deal)
reacting to 3 bets (I think I made some basic mistakes in this one)
evaluating villains' stats (HEM2?PT4 HUDs have new options)
bluffs and blufffing
sizing preflop raises (Needs reinforcement, table ninja is the devil)
Lol, villain dnked into me (good regs donk more now)
double barreling
blind defense

2010 CotW:

Playing small pocket pairs (pretty sure the value of sets has gone down these last 3 years)
Fold Equity
Turning Made hands into Bluffs
Using the Overbet (This one isn't linked; it may not exist, I didn't check, but it's vital to have a new one on this topic)
The Last Word on Redline (I got this)
Understanding polarization (not sure about this one, either, Split did a nice job)
Planning default line creation
A conversation on bet sizing
Thinking about combos
Showdown Value

2011 CotW

Realizing Your Equity
Donking

I'm in.

edit: I haven't put in any significant online volume (or live, for that matter) since BF. If you need more volunteers, I'd love to sharpen my game by writing on a topic or two and can commit to spending the necessary time to produce exceptional work

My first choice is Bluffs and Bluffing

Not on your list but I'd also like to do Adjusting to stack sizes... hate those shortstackers!

I'll have a look at PokerStove. Of course I'll contribute mathematically wherever it's needed.

If you want to do all 3 of those just go sign up for them in the sign up thread (previously the interest thread )

I know it's confusing with both threads and changing the purpose of the other thread and all. Sorry, I probably could have come up with a better plan.

I'm in for:

Playing small pocket pairs (now if I can just get playing KK and playing AA I'll have all 4 pair-specific topics lol)
and

Planning default line creation

Plus whatever else needs to be done when they are all divvied up.

I searched for "Using the Overbet" post, didn't find it and I vaguely remember it not happening and being a kerfluffle with Duke.

CMAR's value betting timeless imo, especially because there is a separate post on thin value betting.

Do you guys think it's still appropriate to consider cbetting and barrelling separately?
Project COTW Update: Authors Sign Up For Listed Articles Quote
06-27-2013 , 07:27 AM
you could do them together but as like a part 1: cbetting, part 2: barreling

but yeah, people are still terrible in both aspects and have next to no idea how different ranges connect with different board textures
