I should go back and read/reread some more of his catalog.
I've got a few of Ray's books. That tribute wasn't what I was expecting at all

It was good though

I am thinking of doing that to my backyard. Is this a reasonable DIY? What is the time/skill set needed?

That is in no way a reasonable DIY project, imo. Just getting the ground properly level would discourage me, and I take on more DIY projects than most (I'm on the tail end of a 2nd floor remodel atm). That being said, if you hired out someone else to excavate and tamp, the rest could be done with sweat equity. Friends+pizza+beer gets it done from there.

Pele is obviously some sort of super human.

be a man and get out the hand tamper, omfg, that would be a horrific time. Do you have any kids in the neighborhood that like busting ass? The power levelers are a lot easier and it should be an afternoon project to get the ground leveled and prepped (with friends, and depending on how large of an area you're doing)

I like that kind of work so for me it'd be a nice project but if you don't like leveling/paving/raking it would be a hassle

P.S. Looks good Pele!

Yeah, I was leaning towards hiring someone to do it.....of course the concrete guys are desperate for work right now and I can get 5000 sqf for stamped/colored concrete done for $7K right now including framing. But I really like the look of pavers.

We absolutely love our tinted/stamped concrete patio and use it all the time. Poured somewhat of a kidney-shaped with a walk to a small fire pit area and maybe 75' of retaining wall built at chair seat height. I get back home (working) I'll snap a pic.
