FYP - The sport itself is still great, you can't really change much there, but the way it is organised and promoted is just horrible. Nearly every single 'big fight' of the last decade has been completely one-sided because the way the sport is structured. Boxers don't want to fight the best competition because there is more money in them holding on to one belt and fighting a string of bums in "world champtionship" bouts, rather than having the best fight the best to unify the belts.
The UFC has learned from boxings mistakes and has a great structure where the best routinely fight the best. There is only one belt in mma that everybody wants and to get that they strive to get in the UFC, and once there they want to fight the toughest competition to rise to the top. People don't get credit there for fighting bums in order to maintain their status. Fighters get put in against tough competition, and if they lose too much they get cut in order for the next guy who's waiting in line to take their place.
Boxing would do well to learn from mma, but unfortunately there's just too much money and corruption spread out across too many organisations for anything positive to ever happen imo. The only hope for boxing is for the major organisations to start going bust and for a new player to come through with a UFC-style structure.
