Hi all,

Couple of questions about this hand. Is my open with a7o vs a calling station looking bb ok? Fold equity is low but the power of my cards vs fish's calling range plus position seems good to me.

The min check raise on the turn told me we were chopping this pot a huge % of the time, with a few combos of 2x given his wide calling range and also athe full 16 combos of 78. However given pot odds am I stuck with playing for stacks?

Thanks

Opening any Ax in the BTN is definitely the correct play. Even if the fishy player calls, your hand is likely to be the best hand and you've got position.

If the BB is indeed a fishy player, it is unlikely they'll fold to a c-bet but your hand is a great hand for a semi-bluff:
- You have a gutshot
- You have the Ac for a backdoor flush draw (and as a blocker)
- You might actually have the best hand, in which case you are value betting

Based on these, flop c-bet seems fine to me maybe a bit on the large side though. Only problem is if you get raised and have to fold a hand that has some equity but fish are usually more passive so no big deal.

On the turn, the only hand that beats you is exactly 78 and because you hold a 7 there are less combos of those. The BB could easily be re-raising you with a set, two pair or even flush draws. You want to get max value from those second best hands before the river comes. Getting it in is the +EV play here and even more so versus a fish.
