new video: threads13 at 100NL on Poker Stars

Hey all... It's been a hot minute since I've done one of these. I put this together a couple days ago. It's instructional in nature and I think it could help our players playing anywhere in the 25NL-100NL range.

Here's the link to my blog that contains the link for the video and other software you will need to extract the file (it's compressed using WinRAR).

http://threads13.com/?p=110

As always, any questions and debate is welcome. Let me know what ya'll think.

Hrm, I can get sound but no video when played in Windows Media Player, but I can get both if I play it on Quicktime. Anyone have any ideas why?

Re: new video: threads13 at 100NL on Poker Stars

Thanks for doing this threads. I found the J4 hand especially interesting b/c it's a debate my review partner and I get into every week. In the 78 hand (you turned a str8) what's your play if villian 3 bets you on the river?

One comment I would make is that I found your hud very distracting. I don't know if others do as well, but I would clean it up for a video.

Concerning videos in general, I'm not a huge fan of them as I find that there is so much 'down time' in them where the situations are standard or (even worse) there are no situations in the half hour. I think an edited video would provide a much better experience. For example, splicing 30-40 hands together of you playing 3-bet pots against different opponents both in and out of position.

However I enjoyed this one very much. Thanks again.

You probably need to download the camstudio codec thingermabob. Here's a link(just scroll down a little).

Could you tell me the time whre the 87 hand came up? Also the same for the J4 hand?

As far as the hud, unfortunately I don't know if there isn't too much I can do because the stats that are displayed are quite important to me. Also, I don't want to water anything down by taking stats out that I use during a video.

I've definitely though of doing some other things with videos in the future to change it up. I just put this one together pretty quickly just because I haven't done anything in so long. Thank you very much for the suggestions!

Re: new video: threads13 at 100NL on Poker Stars

Both hands were near the end. J4 was a button steal and called by a 14/9 in the SB. Flop came J84 and your commentary focused on how you wouldn't want to get it in. 78 hand was an EP raise by you. Flop came Jh10h x and was checked. Turn was a 9 and was checked. River completed the flush draw and blind bet into you. You raised and he folded. I really liked the way you extracted value in this hand, something I'm very weak at. When I get in this situation I'm usually afraid to re-open the betting, even tho that was the plan for checking the turn.

Downloaded codec and also redownloaded and extracted the file again and still the same.

No one else has this problem?

Ah yeah, the J4 was against the nit. I think that's pretty self-explanatory. When I see the flop I always ask myself whether or not I'm committed(when I airball I don't bother asking cause it's a pretty obvious "no" ). Against an opponent like this I really don't see him getting it all in with less than a set. Now, it's true that he could put in a couple bets with something like QJ, but the tight players will often even get away from that. Against a tight player you really are looking 2 to 3 streets of value with something like two-pair. Your best case scenario is getting 3 bets out of AJ.

I remember the straight hand now. I think I can fold to a 3-bet. I don't really ever see my villain doing this with a lesser hand. However, if he makes a less than half-pot sized 3bet I probably go ahead and crying call because there is some chance that he could be on the same hand or a crazy bluff. Even then though, I wouldn't argue with a fold.

Why don't people mess with your min raise button opens?

Micro players in general adjust very badly (or more often not at all) to min-raises. They often don't want he trouble of playing against your range however wide that is, some may even correctly be considering (correctly) that being OOP sucks so much that the initial odds they get just doesn't compensate.

Min-raises are a very powerful weapon esp against short stacks.
