I would recommend 6-9 tables in your case, but play whatever amount you are comfortable with.

I would cut it down until you get to stakes where you're earning decent money.

Your focus at the micros should be learning how to play properly, not maximising volume.

Personally I feel like the best way to learn is through playing, but I guess that varies from person to person.

I think the best way to find out how many tables you should play, is keep adding tables till your eyes start bleeding, or you start timing out.. Then cut one table, and TADA you've found your perfect table count.

I agree.

However there is a difference between paying full attention to what's going on on two tables and auto piloting whilst playing 10 tables.

I have a 13.3 inch screen laptop and I find that playing more than 4 tables with slight overlap is a mess when esp. when using a HUD. But I'd really like to be able to get in the volume of playing more. How does everyone else play so many?

Stacking is a bitch and always results in a costly misclick when one of your tables jumps to the front. Merge does not have zoom

I have 2 stacks and use table optimiser so that the stack on the left has all my preflop decisions, then when a hand goes postflop the table gets auto sent over to the right stack. I have a third overlapping stack where my re-player gets sent if i want to replay a hand and make a note.
